A tip for Keith from a California avocado farmer family; put your newly bought rock hard avo in a brown paper bag, like small lunch bag size. It'll ripen quicker. 😉✌️

I enjoy Keith's research sidebars. Also wondering how the heck he grew an avocado tree in Ireland 😂

    • @MelissaThompson432

I took it to be a grocery avocado. You can buy them unripe and let them ripen, like bananas.
      ---Usually.
It seems like this one is a dud.

The Gulf Stream; a current of warm water from Caribbean keeps Ireland & Britain slightly warmer than other places at a similar latitude. I've seen palm trees growing on the west coast of Scotland & it rarely snows in Ireland. You'd have most success growing an avocado in a large container where it could be moved somewhere sheltered in cold winters. So saying I don't know if he's actually grown one.

@@MelissaThompson432That was my impression as well. I'm from Wisconsin, our store bought avocados have been coming from Peru for quite a while. They ship early when the fruit has a very low oil content. This means they will take much longer to ripen, but will safely make it to many far away ports. All of our avocado commercials used to end with a little jingle that said, "Avocados from Mexico". Then there was a short ban on Mexican avocados and I don't think the jingle ever returned.

    • @MelissaThompson432

@@anonymouse867 I don't eat them, myself, but I used to buy them for my mother, who grew fond of them while living in Florida. I always bought them in varying stages of ripeness so they would last out the week.
(In Florida we would get another variety, rather than the little black Hasses available most everywhere now, one that was a little larger than a grapefruit. You would have to sprinkle them with lemon to save them because otherwise there was a lot of wastage.)

There's no better way to start the day than listening to my two favorite Irish lads telling a story about a murderous doctor, or really any story. I never realized that strychnine was pronounced so differently in the land of Ire. Also, as soon as you mentioned Guinness, I put my, "Interestingly" finger up and had a laugh as I am currently wearing a Guinness T-shirt. Sláinte boys!

An interesting fact for Keith - in the restaurant business, I was taught that when you tell a guest what their food/drink options are, if there is an item you want to sell more than another, either cuz its on sale, or in case of food, needs to be sold or it gets thrown out the next day, when you give the list of items to the guest, the items you want to sell go at the start & the end of the list, because people will naturally retain those & blur out the middle stuff.

To be fair, with the effectiveness of 19th century or earlier medicine, the terms "physician" and "serial killer" are practically interchangeable... separated only by intent. I'm still of the opinion that Whitechapel Jack was a doctor or veterinarian.

I was thinking the same when it came to early doctors. They were literally digging up corpses to do their forbidden research. Benjamin Franklin was said to have a studying surgeon as long term houseguest and the bones of nearly 30 people were found in his home after his death. I've always thought of early doctors in the same vein as modern day morticians. Not for the faint of heart and usually for those who seem a little, (or a lot) odd.
