I have this ratchet and a 1/4" drive Sealey. I assumed that they worked like this so it is really cool to see it disassembled. I have never lubed my gearless ratchets because I know that they work using friction. I love them because they are the only things that work in REALLY tight. cramped, areas. I use the Sealey more because the head is so much smaller, but I have used both. They're not daily use tools for me, but when you need one you really need them. I feel the same way about my pass-thru ratchet set and my spline drive sockets. I sure don't use them every day but when the need arises I am DAMN glad I added them to my tool box.

That is a sprag roller mechanism. They are used in automatic transmissions, motorcycle starters, pumps.

I bought this ratchet because of the small arch swing and my first use the center release button got stuck or worked it way up Then went back to exchange it and it happened 2 more times. The second time when the button is pressed and snapped back to fast it will work its way up and fails. The third time I fixed it for how long I don't know but ended up just giving it to my friend and told him about it. For my opinion it's just a novelty piece to talk about.

It's pretty cool. But why did Kobalt stop making them? It's 10/01/2019 and I found one on Amazon and another on Ebay. Both 3/8 drive. Lowes doesn't list them.

It is a roller sprag clutch. Similar clutches were used in some 4x4 automatic locking hubs. I would worry about oil getting in it and it will slip when overloaded, otherwise is a good wrench.

Watched this video (and another) about this ratchet, the fact it has 0 degrees to engage I checked it out on Lowe's website, turns out they're clearanced for 3.75 so I went and bought the only two they had. Didn't even close this video, just went and got them... anyways I took one apart, the cage for this one is steel as well. All metal construction.

Jesse Crandle Yea I Figured. I Guess The One Secretkoopa Bought Was an Old Model Or Something Bc It's Strange That it had Plastic Internals.
