For all my Gullah/AA people remember is
The Gullah had successful skirmishes against their enslavers resulting in escaping to Spanish Florida in the late 16-1700s
To which they succeeded in keeping the British and ally natives away from the Florida boarder line due to their sharpshooting skills as a black militia to the Spanish army.
Also eventually fended off U.S soldiers and their native allies from illegally crossing the border after the revolutionary war. All the way up until Florida was bought by the U.S in 1819.
Successfully beating the U.S. Army again in one of the most costly and bloodiest American wars from 1816-1858 with our own native allies known as the Gullah/Seminole wars. Using both African, European, and native guerrilla tactics the Gullah were never defeated nor fully re-enslaved. Becoming what they are known as powerful Afro-Seminoles.
Endured in the trail of tears to Oklahoma, only be betrayed by many of our former native allies and their new colonial influence. Fought many of them off to now make the trek to Mexico.
Spend six months traveling through Texas battling the most dangerous slave catchers, bandits, Cattle rustlers, outlaws, and more hostile native tribes.
Finally granted the freedom they longed for. Mexico gave them land, Autonomy, and guns to protect their way of life.(Making Mexico the only country in the Americas to keep their promises) Becoming the Moscogos people, Afro Mexican Warriors that beat anyone trying to come over the Mexican boarder. They were so good at being boarder patrol the U.S. military wanted to hire them. In exchange to be excepted back into the Seminole tribe.
Then coming back to the U.S. As the black Seminole scouts and Buffalo soldiers where they were the best trackers and worthy foes to some of the toughest native warrior tribes of the western regions such as the Comanche and Apache. Eventually many resettling in Texas.
Don’t ever let no Bukrah or Comyeah tell you who you are and that your ancestors never fought back. Over 100 plus years our ancestors fought America and everything they wanted to throw at us…and we always won.

My father's side is Seminole, I have all the paperwork and proof. Neither one of his parents were enslaved, and I definitely never heard anything about him being Gullah geechee. Something about this feels like a hijacking of the Seminoles history, but only time will tell.

I didn’t say that ALL Seminoles were Gullah Geechee (I added a note on screen saying the Gullah Geechee are only ONE part of the Seminoles) which means there are also other groups within the Seminoles . Nor did I say that ALL Seminoles were enslaved. You’re only talking about 3 generations back sweety. You need to go back further. If your whole bloodline going 10 generations back or more have always been freedmen then that is amazing and this simply isn’t your story. However, time has already told, hun. This is documented that Seminoles were people of color. There are tons of books and online resources showing photos whether you’re aware or not. We don’t need to hijack history. It’s written in ourstory.

They’re clearly not reading . And to make matters worse , they’re going 4 generations back on the family tree and thinking their ancestors just sprung up here in the Americas . If you haven’t gone more than 10 generations back , you haven’t properly traced your ancestors foot steps. Proper genealogical research is going to take more than just talking to your elders . You need to study anthropology and sociology .

For 1- the word Geechee is from Ogeechee which is a pure Muskogean word it means river of the uchis why would Africans have an Indian name as a title for their ethnicity? For 2- the word gullah comes from the word guale which is originally is spelled “wale” pronounced (wah-Lee) the Spanish “gua” is equivalent to the W sound in pronunciation so it became gua-le due to the Spaniard pronunciation of the word wale. The guale/wale being an American Indian people said to have already been there long before Columbus. Gullah geechee are the Seminoles that the Spanish people was calling cimarron. Out of the word cimarron you get the words Seminole and maroon. The Seminolé are and looked like the same people they called maroon. Seminolé just means run away basically or Like a separatist or a renegade. Who were the only people running away and what were they running from and to? Plantations. Think about it the only people on plantations were so-called blacks. 98% of The same people who are called Black today are some of the same people we kno historically who identified as seminolés but the Seminoles were indian. The black is the Indian

It’s not “Gullahs and the Indians” the Gullah are the Indian . From a linguistic perspective Gullah comes from Gualé pronounced “Wah-Ley” or “Wah-Lee”, which were a group of YAMASEE INDIANS who originally are from the coastal plains of south east Georgia (Savannah) . The word Gullah and Geechee both have indigenous American Indian origins. Not Gullah and Geechee are two different groups joined together as one. Geechee Comes from “Ogeechee” which is a River in GA . Ogeechee, meaning “River of the euchee’s”. Their were already people here who either named themselves “Geechee” after the Ogeechee river or named the Ogeechee river after them but Ogeechee was already a name for a people before Africans ever showed up! Ogeechee is a Muskogean word it’s not of African origin stop listening to Wikipedia they tell lies. They’re tryna to make us foreigners in our own land not Wikipedia persay but the people who started the story of us originating from Africa that is a lie! Euchee, or another way of spelling it “Yuchi” are also indigenous Indians who are as well a part of the yamasse nation . The Yuchi are originally indigenous to Tennessee but later migrated and became apart of the yamassee. We are YAMASEE INDIANS aka “creek”, “Muskogee”, “seminolé”, “maroon”, “Gullah” (Gualé) , “Geechee” (Ogeechee) , down in Mexico our people are called “mascogos” which is a derivative of the word “muscogee”. We went by many different names but we are indigenous American INDIANS…NOT AFRICANS!

I don’t use Wikipedia . You’re right about alot of what you said though. However, the Gullah Geechee people are a mixture of both groups. Either way , labeling yourself Indian or African still makes you chattel. So instead of arguing about whether they’re African or Indian , tell me what is their true nationality ? Because Indian and African are both misnomers.

Most of them are American Indians and the ones who are mixed with Africans are a small amount compared to the geechees who are Indians . I’m using the terms Indian and African in a general sense .

I’m curious to know where the native seminoles came from and went to, because it doesn’t seem to be any traces within you guys genetic makeup. Very interesting story.

    • @sopdetamentet7525
      @sopdetamentet7525 3 місяці тому

no DNA test tells you what tribe you come from! The Tribe is a NAME not a living being. Anyone can join a tribe. DNA connects you to a living or dead bloodline. Those DNA tests are fake are as far as showing different regions and different ethnicities. Africa is a place, not a LIVING person. GENEAOLOGY is your connection to a tribe. Bloodwork doesn't tell you if you are INDIAN or NOT. Indian is a WORD not a living being. However, there is proof that the indigenous people of the Americas, North America not the Native Americans. So of course, NA genetic makeup will connect them to their bloodlines outside of the Americas. Since we know where they come from and a lot of them acknowledge they are Siberians. Some are Asians and Eurasians. Like the Alaskans, they are Asians and the government knew they were Asian people, felt bad for them b/c of their living conditions back then and they made them a part of the U.S. and MADE them indigenous people so that they could recieve government benefits.

There is a lot of people in the comments defending indigenous truth, which is admirable, but its leading to some biases that hinder people from understanding how complex American history truly is.
Yes Indigenous moors (Itsate Maya) were all over the south east and existed alongside European moor refugees & Nahuatl/ Iztac invaders. (see my channel to understand more)
However, lets not ignore the African presence in America completely in recognition of our own indigenous heritage. Many West Africans came here as bond servants and interbred with us throughout French colonization, Spanish colonization and English Colonization.
The part people get wrong is the actual number of Africans that came over to America. According to my research thus far, about 400,000 Africans were shipped to America from the 1500’s-1800’s, mainly in virginia, but definitely in Charleston & New Orleans. Both Indian and African were called negro and worked on plantations.
The term “Indian” is an exonym and is politically derived. I will have a long video on all this.
