Perfect and profound in every way, as always with Jessye ... Most striking of her innumerable virtues though I find her impeccable and clearly understandable pronunciation of each and every single German word, not at all a matter of course for anyone who is not a native speaker of German ... And what is even more, from her interpretation it is clear that she deeply understands the meaning of the text and sings it accordingly ... Brava Maestra Assoluta !!

So gorgeous. The last stanza of In diesem Wetter is heavenly beyond words.

Don't forget to give Mahler a little credit. There are so many wonderful recordings of this work alongside this great Norman version.Hear as many as you can .you will not be disappointed. There is greatness in this music. It almost always surfaces.

" Nun will die Sonn' so hell aufgehn, als sei kein Unglück die Nacht geschehn "... Le monde aujourd'hui pleure une voix sublime et une artiste profondément généreuse et géniale.

First time I hear this version, and it´s ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. How come I´ve never hear of it before? Her voice suits so good, her tone is just perfect! Thanks for posting, this is a wonderful finding!

Herr Mahler is my favourite composer. I once attended a performance of symphony No 9 at Saint Davids Hall Cardiff, Wales. Bernard Hightink was conducting the LSO 2004. As my friend John had worked at the ROH and La Scala Milano, I had the great honour of being introduced back stage after the performance. Unforgettable! Many thanks John Canter, Violinist and true friend. 🌿

@keistanreeves2610 ... "Haitink" is the name, not "Hightink", moreover Bernhard Haitink did not "High Think" of himself at all ;-)

Very beautiful indeed,. so deeply personal as Ms. Norman is able to scale her enormous voice down to the appropraite level and then some...There are times when she sings with a wonderful sense of intimacy that is truly heartbreaking. Brava!

Unsinn, die Lieder wurden 1905 uraufgeführt und sind Vertonungen von Rückert Gedichten, die dieser aus Trauer um seine zwei an Scharlach verstorbenen Kinder schrieb. Mit Kriegstoten haben die Lieder nichts zu tun.

Kathlyn Ferrier, Schwatzkopf, Christa Ludwig, and now Norman, all make a different but beautiful version

@claudebouyssou7957 ... The name is "Schwarzkopf" (literally: "Blackhead") ... only "Schwätzkopf" or (even worse) "Schwachkopf" would be more of an insult to one of the great ladies of classical German vocal music :-D
