So sorry to hear about your flooding, glad to hear your daughters cafe is not too badly damaged. We are being told the same about once in a lifetime flooding!!
My town has been flooded twice this year and we are only just coming into winter time. No one hurt is the main thing, cars, carpets and furniture can be replaced. All the best to you all.
    ✌♥️🇬🇧

Thanks mate. We have been very lucky with all things considered. As the girls just lease the cafe, they only really have lost food/stock. All of the expensive large kitchen equipment is still owned by the park and should be replaceable under insurance I think.

Thanks for doing this. I used to live in Nagambie (and Seymour & Shepp). I've seen footage from Seymour & Shepp but nothing of Nagambie, so thank you. I hope your daughter's business bounces back okay. 🙂🙏

Thanks Marita. We just heard today that they will be rebuilding the park including fixing the cafe up with all new equipment, so that's exciting - just going to take awhile!

I scattered dad's ashes by the small weir on the bend before the main one.
😂 they used to fine him all the time for illegal camping but it didn't really stop him.
Also in the early 90's we seen some of the largest turtles I've ever seen. 9of them in a line..
Also the biggest crab I've ever caught was from that same spot.

My wife and I went to Maitland a few weeks back and It was amazing too see how far the flood waters had risen. I hope this will spur people and governments to take the environment much more seriously. This gives your passion for recycling so much more importance. I live in NYC where there's a lot of talk about the environment but not a lot of meaningful action - yet!!! I'm optimistic. Every time I walk by the local park here, and see leaves and twigs in plastic trash bags, all I think about is valuable carbon sources being wasted.

We had floods here earlier in the year in Brisbane and where I live was worse than it wasn't 2011. My wife couldn't get home I mean my son went out the four-wheel drive and took us 3 hours to get to her which is like a 10 minute drive. 74 floods I can't really remember I was 3 but I nearly died they pulled me out of the water. We lived in Brighton Queensland and my older brother's and sister said there's a house and cow floating in the sea and I went down to have a look and nearly drowned one of the avenues

@@TheUltimateRecycler thx mate. In 74 floods. My father worked a 36 hour shift straight, as no one get to work. He worked for telecom. During covid I tried to beat him. I did 24hr shift as RN in aged care. Last 8 hrs they gave me bed. A RN had to be onsight.

Sorry to hear about your daughters cafe. I hope the damage can be repaired. Will the caravan park reopen in same place or will they build back on higher ground? I hope your mom and dad's farm didn't get any flooding.

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  2 роки тому +1

Thanks Wayne. The farm is fine and a long way from any major flood zones but the continuous wet weather isn't good for the crops! The main attraction for the park is the river bank, so I don't think they will relocate at all! Not sure what will happen actually - it will be a long time recovering I would think.

It's not actually once in 100 yrs. It's actually the likelihood of a flood the uses the volumetric capacity of the valley in years.

Looking at flood history's these floods seem to occur every 25 years.
It beggars belief that councils continue to allow development on flood plains. Here in SE Melbourne the springvale cemetery wanted to develop on the dandenong flood plain beacuase of course this land looks cheap. Instead of being cheap flood plains should have the highest value to stop development. At present the cemetery proposal had been stopped but it took a lot of local opposition. If a whistleblower hadn't alerted the local population it would have been a done deal, never mind the results when it floods.

If a council opens up land for anything type of building and its has flooded previously and they approved a building permit they should be held responsible for all damages, accommodation and inconvenience.
The shire of campaspe always jump into gear after an event has happened or about to happen and try to rectify a situation and if the event doesn't happen it's forgotten about and taken off the agenda look at ash Wednesday 75 people lost their lives trapped on their properties with nowhere to shelter from the flames burnt to death in cars on roadways council and government departments were going to make every household living in a high danger area install underground bug out shelters clear areas along heavily forested roads where bunkers would be placed for people to take shelter if trapped on a road in a bushfire but 12 months down the track it's all forgotten about yet since ash wednesday we've had numerous other fires similar to ash Wednesday but yet still no bug out shelters maybe their waiting for 200 or 300 people to lose their lives or a bus load of school kids trapped in a bush fire while heading home from school the government was talking about mading this mandatory for anyone living in heavily forested areas and that was back in 1983 and since then thousands and thousands of building permits have been issued in those areas and to my knowledge without the thought of any type of bug out shelters being a stipulation in these permits not even sprinkler system have been made compulsory . (Floods) Councils and governments have all the data on recent floods and flooding but I doubt this ever gets looked at until there's another event and that is only to look up what flood was the highest .
These oct 22 floods weren't a big event and yet government organisations and council were unprepared like always there were shortages in food ,fuel power, sandbags and most of all man power farmers volunteer and towns had to organize themselves and deal with most issues themselves but not in the Echuca area while campaspe shire pulled out no stops to protect its town the town where all the overpaid masters live other towns and areas were basically left to fend for themselves while council mustered all the resources they could find using ratepayers funds from the 4 other towns they take rates from to protect Echuca.
These bloody council amalgamated in 94 was one of the government's biggest mistakes as far as local government goes we sit back year after year now and see our hard earned money getting mostly spent in Echuca where these people live that run the show dont take my word for it do your own research look at what the shire of deakin done for its ratepayers before amalgamations raped these towns of their resource's their savings and a prompt service shire of Dekin got coprice, Greenham, Hinze kept nestles and McColls in the town just to name a few business they brought into the community because we had a smart engineer Thanks greg running the show that cared about the town who lived in the town along with most of the other people working for council If something needed a job done it got done it didn't take months and meetings by councilors it got done because only one guy had the power to say do it 90% of jobs didn't require 3 or 4 feasibility study mountains of useless paperwork and costing assessments then tender advertising then waiting for a contractor to complete it it was done ASAP by people that were already on the payroll multi skilled workers that covered 90% of any job council found itself needing to do.
State governments shouldn't have had say in how state funding would be spent and the timeframe it should be spent in this forced councils to rush jobs not completing them properly because if these funds weren't spent in the governments timeframe funding would be reduced for the following year the spending of these funds should be up to the discretion of the people running the show for these fund givers to say this road needs resealing when the people working in this area would be the ones to know such things should be able to say no this doesn't need resealing for another 4 to 5 years it is a waste of money when we have this road this street 10 times worse but because their not on the big bucks and only do the job their laughed at when these funds could be put with other funds allocated to patch up a job and used to complete that job properly instead of wasting these funds patching it up knowing full well a patch up job will never last and it would only be a waste of money. Dont get me started on overpaid contracts to tradesmen because these fuckwhitts sitting in the office approving these tenders have lost all knowledge of what a job should cost and you can bet your ballsack if these wankers were paying a contractor to do work at their place and got the bill they'd be telling the tradesman you gotta be fucking joking.
The problem is amalgamations have never worked its costing rate payers twice as much now as they would be paying because some of our services have been sold off and 90% of other shit goes to dender and it's overpriced things way off the scale bring back local councils bring back multi skilled workers and people that have the power to spend the ratepayers money live in the town those people that take pride in their town not people that collect their paycheck jump in our cars with our fuel cards and mobile phones and drive home to another jurisdiction to live we want people that work for the town living in the town building up their town caring about the town.
It's no good now running around jetting out drains clean sullage pits and excavating drains cleaning culverts and topping off levey banks after the horse has bolted these are the jobs that as a council would have been done in the summer months before you dont burn off in fire season, you dont cut wood in the dead of winter unless your out and you dont try grow feed in winter to feed your livestock .
