I went through Sage with Tom and ran into him frequently in 7th. I liked him from the minute I met him and it’s good to see him alive. He talks about being arrogant but he never displayed that at all.

Spent the first half of the 90s doing a regular rotation at a drug surveillance radar site in Colombia as an Air Guard technician. Really remote area. Got to know the Special Forces team guys pretty well. There were 4 assigned to the site for a few months at a time. A few guys were solitary guys who were cool but wouldn’t really interact but most of the guys were really good guys who would spend nights on the veranda with us swapping stories. This guy reminds me of them. Humble when they could’ve been otherwise. They are unique among men. Held in
esteem by other military guys. And I’m
    father and brother to combat
    decorated Airborne Rangers who I
    personally hold in high esteem.

I did that mission in Puerto Maldonado Peru covering along the Amazon River in 99. A couple years later a plane with missionaries was shot down by Peru. I don’t know if that station gave clearance but It put a real sense of seriousness on what, to that point, was more or less a fuck-off mission on a fun trip. That was my last mission to South America. I did SWSC after Peru and rotated Bragg to Afghanistan from 2003 to 2010.

Yeah those were many fun trips. I was way north in Araracuara on the Caqueta river. One of the sites reported that plane. CIA plane followed and gave a halfhearted ok to the Peruvians to shoot it down. That was the end of that. I got out in 97. My brother was a 2nd Battalion Ranger rotating in and out of Afghanistan and Iraq those years. My son led an infantry platoon with the 101st for most of 2015 in Afghanistan. Now I don’t recommend any kid join. Patients running the asylum.

@@jamesmccaughey7754 My son deployed with a Cav unit at Knox and then 173rd to Afghanistan. It was an interesting feeling rotating out as my son was entering country. He did his time and got out and very sadly, I agree. I would be very hesitant to recommend a young man joining right now unless they had incredible focus, discipline and dedication to follow a specific path to upper echelon of Special Ops or to become an aviator or getting Med school out of the deal. The 7th Group dentist and I became good friends. He came in enlisted as 11B, went to dental school and eventually got into maxillofacial surgery all paid by the army. Good man with a plan.

I love watching these videos on your show Shawn. The guys are so humble and down to earth. What's weird is that they don't need to be like that. They could be cocky and arrogant, but they've been through so much in their lives it makes them humble and appreciate life. They are full of gratitude. They are nothing like for example watching social media star Jake Paul shoot off his mouth saying he's bad and tough he is. These guys are mature and have my respect.

Can’t imagine getting that high of training and then you leave in the middle when you’re all pumped up and get sent home then lose all that motivation and have tordemotivate yourself and basically start in a different group possibly.
At that level of training which I have no idea what it’s like.
    Ugh.
That’s way different than being trained completely with no breaks.
Wonder if the break makes you better at your job having to shift your responsibilities and then get back at it with different people.
It’s like most the stories from these elite soldiers always have an unplanned break in their training.
Jist wondering if that break boosted them to a different level.

It would seem these guys would know that families and special forces are not a good combination. There comes a time when a guy is too old to be in the teams, that’s the time to do the family thing, if that is what you want (confirmed batchelor here).

    Imagine this...
    Set aside everything else...
All things are possible because you can think it...
You can move at the speed of light from your astral body.
That body jumps into a new one, like the movie avatar... immersion.
You move in this space-time with a body in three directions...
You move in time in three directions...
    Jump...
From your highest point moving towards the ground layers of you unfold, until by the time you straightened up, an entire plethora can of whoop ass is opened...
    Are you one of us?
