My male tux is clueless most of the time, just a big, purring, lovable floof, except when he turns into my guard. I'm bed-bound and sometimes if it's a new person, or someone he's not sure of, he'll jump on my bed and glare at them. Once or twice he's even been known to growl.
It's amazing how these little creatures can have such big hearts!

@@user-jk3sv8nj7v Bizarrely the only other time he growls is if the door to the spare room is open, he stands in the doorway and growls at the room.
So I think he just doesn't like empty rooms and nurses.

Absolutely. Cats understand gratitude. I've had cats my whole life, and I had a deep bond with every single one of them, but none of them was as devoted or as attached to me as my current cat. She spent the first three years of her life in another family, until they (quite literally) dumped her on me, and this cat is now practically glued to my leg, trying to make sure I never leave her.

The unconditional love of a animal is the most beautiful thing. They can make a child feel safe and happy❤
I never met a cat who did not love babies and children. I have no doubt they recognize them as young ones, they are protective, loving and tolerate things they never would from an adult. Funny story. Back in 60's we had a Siamese cat. Relatives came with baby John Henry who was a toddler but still in diapers and refusing to go to toilet, even though he was of an age to do so. Well he stood there in the middle of kitchen floor and peed, there was a puddle. Before we could react, the cat came in, sniffed the puddle and smacked John Henry on the leg. No claws, just a smack as if to say - youngen we use the litter box here! Needless to say, we no longer had potty issues while they were there.

This actually could be a valid concern. Even if they don't mean any harm by it, some cats tend to lay on people when they're cuddling which could be very bad for a baby with a heavier cat.
Though it's not something you'd have to worry about as long as you're keeping an eye on the baby.

My first true best friend and soulmate was a cat who unexpectedly came into our lives when I was six years old. We grew up together, and when he passed away years later, the pain was unbearable. I felt a burning sensation in my chest and nose as I forced myself not to cry because I knew my father would tease me for it. Looking back, I wish I had allowed myself to cry for him, to show that if people can cry over broken gadgets, there's no shame in mourning the loss of a soulmate with whom you've shared so many strong bonds and memories.
I understand but you can still talk to your soulmate, just have conversation with your soul it will reach.

I had a cat who stayed by my side night and day when I was very ill. When I got better she went outside and lived her cat life, but when visitors came, she appeared suddenly to look them over. If she saw they were friendly and I felt good about them, she disappeared again. She was a fantastic nurse and a guard. Unfortunately, she was hit by a car and died.

The very best cat that I ever had during my lifetime was a calico that I named Spot kind of as a joke because she didn't have patches. She was mostly white all over with black and orange spots. She was extremely protective of my oldest son after he was born. She'd cuddle with him too. I miss her so much! Best pet ever!

I'm a cat lady since I brought home 2 cats home many yrs ago. My hsb very allergic and no cats but my kids beg & beg....took them to pound and got a bro (grey) & sister (black) and tried convincing my hsb it was 1! He had all allergy meds( I'm an RN) and the joys from both that I had 2 more! He ended up loving them all.

When I was a little kid, it was a common belief that a cat would "suck the life out of a baby", per ancient belief. We were discouraged from bringing a cat anywhere near a newborn. You have to wonder where these old-world superstitions came from!

I think the cat that was being delayed on was actually annoyed. Unlike dogs when they wag their tails that means they're annoyed! Although I bet the cat was tolerating it because the cat was smart enough to realize it was just a kid.
Cats are very sociable.
My parents had a cat when I was born. She was devoted to me, apparently, and would run to my mother when I started to cry and mew loudly. "My" cat loved to sleep beside me and guard me.
Unfortunately, my father's mother believed the old superstitions, and thought our cat would "steal" my life breath. So, she shoved our indoor cat outdoors one day, where sheerney kot (literally "black cat") was quickly run over by a car. This was almost 55 years ago. Siberian / central asian stupidstitions. Smh.
Years later, I found out by accident why I'd always had a special place in my heart for black cats.
People shouldn't underestimate the power pets have in even a young baby's life.

Cats, dogs are very forgiving if they are mistreated by your kid, but humans are unforgiving if a scratch or a paw out of place. Unfair to animals - it's a one way street against them.
