Our today’s interviewee:
Saul Dreier (born in 1925), a Jew from Kraków, Holocaust survivor, former prisoner of the Płaszów camp, musician and member of the Holocaust Survivor Band. After his detention in Płaszów, he was to be taken to KL Auschwitz, but his transport was ultimately sent to KL Mauthausen in Austria. Nine people from his train car died on the way. Upon their arrival in the camp, prisoners were forced to carry heavy stones up the hill. Several days later, Saul Dreier was sent to a smaller camp in Linz, where he worked at a factory. He was able to acquire cigarettes for his kapo, which allowed him to get better food. One day, the kapo told him that a horn hanging on his wall would save the lives of the camp prisoners… Right before the liberation the factory was bombed and the Germans forced the prisoners to fix the railroad tracks, while the Allies were still dropping bombs on them. Many people died. Saul Dreier hid under a locomotive and survived. As he was wounded, he was sent to the place where he was supposed to die soon, but his kapo saved him. On the day of the liberation, at 6 a.m. the Germans held a roll-call and marched the prisoners to a nearby cave - most likely with the intention to blow the mountain up and bury the prisoners under the rubble. When some of the prisoners were already inside the cave, chaos broke out and Saul Dreier gave the aforementioned horn to his colleague who blew into it. Many prisoners managed to escape before the cave was blown up - the horn did save their lives as the kapo had predicted. Several hours later the Americans liberated Saul Dreier and his fellow prisoners.

@@bartoszboleslawski2143 Dziekuje, na smartfonie napisy sie nie pojawiaja, natomiast na komputerze od razu. Moglam wiec odsluchac jeszcze raz historii pana Dreiera.

Ważne aby ocalic od zapomnienia to, co tam sie działo. To uszanowanie pamięci tych, ktorych niemcy pozbawili życia. ( yt usuwa niektore slowa i komentarze znikaja)
Pisałam co mój tata przeszedł ,bo ma osiemdziesiąt osiem lat, wszystko zniknęło.

He must be Canadian or American, as I can understand his Polish. I have trouble understanding Poles from Poland. My parents were survivors, I heard many horrific stories when I was a child. I hope we can learn from WW2, but it looks like we merely pretend to.
Jedyne co mnie zabolało, że powiedział , ze wy macie swój krzyż lub coś tam. Jest to takie lekceważące moją wiarę.
Niesamowita historia. Te baraki, schody, kamieniolom, fabryka i tunele wykopane w gorze, sa bardzo dobrze opisane w „Piec lat kacetu’ Stanislawa Grzesiuka...Moze ten Pan i Grzesiuk gdzies sie mijali ze soba w obozie.
We must fight for our freedom. Western world enjoy freedom but still is so many countries where is no freedom and people are tortured and killed in prison camps.
