I have been given a C220(14 plate) diesel as a hire car and it has to be one of the best cars I have ever driven on the the whole ever. It just cruises around effortlessly and even though there is not that much bhp (around 190 I think) there is over 300 ft lbs of torque so it is not slow and feels way faster on the road than the performance figures suggest! Inside it is absolutely sublime, you just sit there with your elbows up and relax into the heated seats and realize your still doing 50 mpg without having to change cogs manually! Unreal I cant comment on running/servicing costs but this seems really good and more prestige than rivials! To try nit pic bad points would be:- Front and rear head room The doors are heavy but they are large of course It is questionable what the point is in a 3 door car this large but when you see it in the flesh it makes sense! It looks so much better than a 5! It isn't actually that sporty but that is not the main point of this car I don't think.AMG looks but affordable average performance. Gearbox could be more responsive/faster Golf clubs do not fit in without the rear seats flat. I have to give it back at some point soon lol!
Test driving one today. Left my C-class sedan at the dealer for a Service and they gave me a C180 with all the bells and whistles. So far I like it. It's economical, runs smooth, the gearbox is smooth, the power is sufficient. The steering feels direct and precise. And it's also agile. Gonna play with the settings after I finish work.
I have a 2014 C250 coupe and it has been the best car I have owned next to my Volvo S80 which wasn't near as reliable as the Mercedes. So far my favorite car .
Bought a 2012 C250 CDI in black 12 years on 2012 plate and its such a crazy car to drive, the torque is insane and still turns heads in 2024. Design has stood test of time and its very nippy, back into seat nippy. Only things I dislike are the out of date Becker Map Pilot is basic in 2024 now and DAB radio antenna is worst Ive had. Other than that I cant fault this car 12 years on. Owned it for 2 months
He is talking absolute nonsense....the car has hill start as standard which means the car won't roll back for a few seconds so the foot operated hand brake is no problem. Plus when I drive my c coupe the tyres are not annoying and the head room at the back is fine, not the best but not as bad as he is making it out to be!
Tyres are noisy? It’s called friction and required for grip. Noise level will be dependent upon speed and the roughness of the asphalt road surfaces, which are generally poorly maintained in the UK.
I leased a C250 Coupe (1.8T) for 3 years and I must say the riding quality isn't the best. However , it has a brilliant exterior and interior design . Now I have a 3 series and despite being uglier, i like it a lot more. I recommend it for driving enthusiasts.
This is my daily driver, and hill starting is easier with foot brake. 1. Engage brake. 2. Rev while releasing clutch. 3. When clutch has contact, simply pull the release lever and you win. Cheers, loving the reviews.
I know this was 10 years ago but if you firmly press the normal brake at a standstill it holds for you and only releases when you let the clutch up and to be honest I don't even use that. Just be quick with your feet
It's got hill start assist that automatically holds the brakes on for ~2 seconds after you take your foot off the brake pedal. If you want even longer then press the brake pedal twice in quick succession which will then keep the brakes on indefinitely or until you press the accelerator - look for the HOLD notification on the dash to confirm it's engaged. Handy for traffic jams on hills or if you want to use it as a poor man's launch control!
Really nice car like how its more rare than the audi a5 and 3series coupe also i think the current 3 series coupe looks better than the new 4 series personally
really have u seen a 4 series inperson?? i test drove it last week, saw the 3 series and 4 series side by side the 3 series coupe looks shit outdated compared to the 4 series,. 4 series drives like magic, beautiful car. looking forward to m4
In all your reviews for the C Class including the latest model, you have always talked about how the steering is not aligned to the drivers setting position. I'd like to imagine that Mercedes sees your reviews and they still say, 'We'll do absolutely nothing about this!' Iam puzzled
The manual version has a hold feature. If you push the brake hard or pump it twice car won't roll until you accelerate away. Pretty much a handbrake but without having to use your hands.
Both the automatic and manual have this 'hill start' feature. When you take your foot off the brake the car holds for 3 seconds. Handy in the manual but a must for the automatic
Damn im considering this as my first car and wondered the whole time what mat would think of this car. Completely forgot that he worked for a different company before carwow.
Absolutely! But, moreover, I'm pretty much sure that the car has a hill start assyst, because it was fitted to older car than that, so it's pointless. Sorry Mat!
That´s because the engine is in fact dowtuned, you can install a chip and get it to 197 bhp. Brabus has the same chip but with their name on it so don´t worry!
I never liked Mercedes that much, BMW was allways my favorite but I must admit that Mercedes seems to be getting ahead in design (both interior and exterior) this year.. BMW are still amazing of course but their design seems to be the same for some time and specially the interior is not that exciting anymore.. Look at this Mercedes, that interior is just amazing
the c-class coupe is an excellent car now about some comments of the narrator about the no so much sharp steering, no so much sporty feeling of driving e.t.c. are useless....the CAR IS BRILLIANT!
I’m thinking about buying one of these with the 220CDI engine and 7G-Tronic tranny, since they’re getting quite cheap to buy, and they don’t sip that much. Excellent car imo.
You won't need to push the handbrake on a hill start in a manual car, it has Autohold. I have a manual 6 speed one and it's fantastic. 😊 Best styled mid-sized coupe, since the Calibra and the 300ZX.
you do not talk about the fuel consumption of the C 180, can you talk about the real consumption of this engine? also, is it powerful enough for this car? Thank you
I own a c200 and I owned c180 they both have the same engine which a inline four turbo and it is amazing but it's only pushing out 184hp so it is not the highes in horsepower and the car tops out at 237 km/h so it's a gem of an engine with fuel economy and trying to find a gas station when you are on empty especially when you turn on the eco mode but on performance you would need a new air filter and a cat back exhaust a boost gauge and a tune for it to be a true performer my personal car I have deleted my catalytic converters and my resonators and I have installed an apollo cold air intake system but I still did not tune so it sounds great but you don't get the most of it until you tune but in stock form It's not a performer
I've just test driven the c250 in white. Lovely to look at, very nice dash. I'm looking out for the right price to buy one!! BUT, I did prefer the drive of the BMW 3 series.
I have the manual... next time you come to a stop on a hill push your break in hard and the word 'break' will show on your dash (i think) and now when you take your foot off the break the car will stay put until you release your clutch.
When does he get used to that foot operated parkingbrake ? It's a Merc thing and it will last. And it doesn't provide any problems starting at a hill, i'm doing it every Morning and its no a problem at all.
I have a 2005 manual c180, and that trick u suggested doesnt work it will just rolls back, (i actually tried it last night). but thanks for replying anyhow.
Oh Matt. No one will do a hillstart with the footbreak. 99% of these will be sold with Auto boxes, which have the hill-start-assist built in. Its fantastic. You always moan about the offset (well done for being consistent) but I've never noticed it in any Merc I've driven. Neither is the foot break an issue, as a "leg" is stronger than an "arm" so logically a foot operated break is better. :) Price wise, most of these are sold via PCP where Merc slaughters Audi for price. Trust me.
Exactly : ) bth it's rather painfull to rest your food on that pedal while you release the parkingbrake. You will do that mistake only once, after that you won't even think about that anymore.
My mom had this car beginning of this year and through quarantine, now I want the car but she sold it, time to ask her if she can buy it back for me since next year is when I get my license
What i have heard is that the english or right side version of the car that is a bit strange. My steering wheel is on the left and i have no problem with the pedals.
DenDanny not too bad, i prefer it. Had a g37 coupe as my first car and id prefer having the frames as it doesnt give me anxiety when passengers closing the doors using the windows 😅

This car looks very nice and you say nice to drive ,But I can´t agree with the rear wheel arches , they seem a little to small , am I the only one to have that impression ???? Also I don´t understand , why the steering wheel seams to be a little off , I can hardly take that.
He didn't try and do the hillstart he claims is so difficult, if you push down on the normal break the car will apply a temporary break that will release itself when you start to pull away, there is no easier car to hill start i've ever driven...
The new 2016 model black panoramic roof doesn't go back all the way... It's half ass. Also the screen in the new model looks like a gps you buy from a local store. I'll stick to my 2013...
and 9 years later I can finally afford it
Same mate. Best thing about these reviews is you can come back 10 years later😂
Cheers i've got about 5 years to go
9years later I still can't 😂
I am looking to buy one now. :-)
Brought my C250 coupe in 2020 and now in 2021 it's worth more than i paid for it!! Thats a full year of living the dream and now worth more! Result.
The panoramic sunroof gives this car a high level of class
@Mr. Cairo I have the car and the Pano roof defo adds another level of class
@Gabe Landeros I'm thinking of getting this car this December. How has it been treating you?

You don't need any brake for the actual hill start. On manuals there's something called clutch control.
tavi921 ofc it has hill assist, almost every automatic car does
nice radio stations you been listening too lol

Yes exactly. Hill starts would only be a problem is the pedal was used to release the parking brake, but it isn't, so I don't really see the problem
