    Perhaps you might explain that Italian has a formal and informal way of saying things. Walking up to a complete stranger especially if there is a big age difference, it would be very impolite to use come ti chiami, instead the more polite version would be used. At least explaining this, even if your audience is assumed to be of equal age and young would be something any credible Italian teaching program would mention

      "Scusi" is formal Italian so we only use it in formal contexts 😊
