  • A DIY or assembled version of this puzzle is now available at Oskar's Shapeways shop- www.shapeways.c...
    This is a collaboration between Oskar and myself though to be honest it's mostly down to Oskar. After we made the 4Cubes puzzle Oskar came up with this variation. I initially sponsored the puzzle and from a combination of 3d printed parts plus cast parts (from more 3d printed ones) I assembled the prototype for Oskar. There were some teething problems though so Oskar redesigned it. I then cast and assembled a second puzzle (shown in video) which this time was perfect.
    If you buy the puzzle from Shapeways then all parts will be printed (unlike the one in the video). Movement should be pretty much the same.
    Ever wondered what Rubik's Cube looks like in a different language?

    Tony, I must give you sincere props, for you have one of the greatest innovative minds I have ever seen. This puzzle...is simply ingenius.

    Tony I have to say I am impressed. The fact that the majority of the little cubes can be switched from cube to cube is amazing.

    Depends on what you mean by that. You can rotate them around the ring and swap them with other same type parts on the other 4x4x4. The video shows all the movements.

    Dude, your newest "4Cubes" puzzle is fantastic. The only thing going through my mind is "This is the next big step in the cubing world, and another step into discovering the fourth dimension"

    Oh dear, another idiotic comment. This is one of my all time favourite puzzles and an amazing achievement by Oskar to design it. It pushes what's possible to the limit and we couldn't find anywhere able to mass produce it. My only regret is that it is almost entirely Oskar's idea.

    Yes there's my 4Cubes puzzle with 4 3x3x3s on a ring. Oskar said he would be putting it in his Shapeways shop but not sure if he did. It won't be cheap though.

  • @TonyFisherPuzzles

    Very true though the ones available at Oskar's Shapeways Shop might move better since they are 100% 3d printed. Mine was cast.

    I think that the combination of two "conventional" Rubik's Cubes on a Disk is really innovative. Or at least it is an innovative idea to integrate two "3D" mechanical puzzle into a 2D plane. And what's more according to the information provided by this video, it works well.
    Though up to the present, I cannot "recover" any classic scrambled Rubik's cube, I can sense that this "Cubes on a Disk puzzle" is really a master piece of this kind. The "organic" integration of 3D and 2D puzzle
    Great job!

    A picture paints a thousand words and a video paints a million. Plus there's the description so just read it out loud while you watch and imagine it's me.

  • @TonyFisherPuzzles
    @TonyFisherPuzzles  12 років тому

    @Chrentin No, if it moves freely then the cube I am not working on will get misaligned which is a pain when I want to do the big swapping moves (if that makes sense).

    if you could make one of those with 4 cubes on it that would be pretty impressive, then you could have a puzzle that could have 16 different colors on every face, but that's just my opinion.

    I wanted to but we were told it was too difficult to make. Meaning it would be too expensive. You can however order the printed parts on Oskar's site. They are very pricey though and not easy to assemble.

    I couldn't agree more with a very nice comment from an audience called EMPER0RC0W, who wrote it on Oskar's video with a similar name,"Cubes on a Disk puzzle".
    She/He said, "that looks absolutely stunning ! I love it ! ... its nice that you made both cubes have different colored stickers .. i think that adds quite a bit to the challenge .. plus makes it alot more interesting ! amazing !"
    Great invention!

  • @TonyFisherPuzzles

    If it was looser it would be horrible. Any slight unintended movement will block further moves. It would be very frustrating.

  • @TonyFisherPuzzles
    @TonyFisherPuzzles  11 років тому

    How can you say V-Cubes suck when movement on most is superb? I assume once again you are exclusively rating it on their speedcubing capabilities? The primary function of a puzzle is for a person to work out how to solve it. In that respect the puzzles are of the highest quality excluding the 6x6x6 of course. Speedcubing is only a secondary function and relies on unnatural moves (corner cutting) and general rough treatment. A general "they suck" statement is clearly ridiculous.
