- A DIY or assembled version of this puzzle is now available at Oskar's Shapeways shop- www.shapeways.c...
This is a collaboration between Oskar and myself though to be honest it's mostly down to Oskar. After we made the 4Cubes puzzle Oskar came up with this variation. I initially sponsored the puzzle and from a combination of 3d printed parts plus cast parts (from more 3d printed ones) I assembled the prototype for Oskar. There were some teething problems though so Oskar redesigned it. I then cast and assembled a second puzzle (shown in video) which this time was perfect.
If you buy the puzzle from Shapeways then all parts will be printed (unlike the one in the video). Movement should be pretty much the same.
Ever wondered what Rubik's Cube looks like in a different language?
Tony, I must give you sincere props, for you have one of the greatest innovative minds I have ever seen. This puzzle...is simply ingenius.
Tony I have to say I am impressed. The fact that the majority of the little cubes can be switched from cube to cube is amazing.
Depends on what you mean by that. You can rotate them around the ring and swap them with other same type parts on the other 4x4x4. The video shows all the movements.
Dude, your newest "4Cubes" puzzle is fantastic. The only thing going through my mind is "This is the next big step in the cubing world, and another step into discovering the fourth dimension"
Probably the most innovative and creative puzzle I've seen. Simply amazing.
You guys are insanely brilliant!
Thanks but it was really down to Oskar. Every cubie can swap BTW.
My two favorite makers made a puzzle together AWESOME!!!!
Oh dear, another idiotic comment. This is one of my all time favourite puzzles and an amazing achievement by Oskar to design it. It pushes what's possible to the limit and we couldn't find anywhere able to mass produce it. My only regret is that it is almost entirely Oskar's idea.
This isn't that impressi- 1:19
OGOD NOPE. WONDERFUL JOB TONY FISHER
Yes there's my 4Cubes puzzle with 4 3x3x3s on a ring. Oskar said he would be putting it in his Shapeways shop but not sure if he did. It won't be cheap though.
Very true though the ones available at Oskar's Shapeways Shop might move better since they are 100% 3d printed. Mine was cast.
I think that the combination of two "conventional" Rubik's Cubes on a Disk is really innovative. Or at least it is an innovative idea to integrate two "3D" mechanical puzzle into a 2D plane. And what's more according to the information provided by this video, it works well.
Though up to the present, I cannot "recover" any classic scrambled Rubik's cube, I can sense that this "Cubes on a Disk puzzle" is really a master piece of this kind. The "organic" integration of 3D and 2D puzzle
Great job!
You guys have really out done yourselves! Amazing!
it's just two cubes... 1:19 shit.
I know, right?
I just bought this on i.Materialise. Cannot wait to play with it!
WOW this is awesome you did a great job on this
Holy crap, this is one of the most extreme cubes I have ever seen, specially since it has to cubes with different colours!!
i love these puzzles!!
The point is that it is a brand new solving problem unlike 99% of the puzzles I have worked on which are mere shape variations.
The videos are about puzzles not me. You can clearly see them and what they do. You either like the puzzles or you don't.
A picture paints a thousand words and a video paints a million. Plus there's the description so just read it out loud while you watch and imagine it's me.
@Chrentin No, if it moves freely then the cube I am not working on will get misaligned which is a pain when I want to do the big swapping moves (if that makes sense).
@d4m4s74 There must be a fault on your computer if the description is not displayed.
if you could make one of those with 4 cubes on it that would be pretty impressive, then you could have a puzzle that could have 16 different colors on every face, but that's just my opinion.
***** really? haven't seen a vid of it. Guess I'll have to look for it!
malcomb bell
It's four 3x3x3 cubes and called 4cubes.
I wanted to but we were told it was too difficult to make. Meaning it would be too expensive. You can however order the printed parts on Oskar's site. They are very pricey though and not easy to assemble.
Wow, this is really cool. I would love to see people do world records with this!
Hola que tal, tienes muy buenos Cubos sobre todo este de aqui me ha gustado, dime como los vendes ??, yo soy de Peru.
@hinataVSneji This is the prototype with cast cubies. The fully 3d printed versions should move fine.
wow! mad props to you two both!!
Yes, many people could. You just work out a solution like you would when solving any puzzle.
Yes, it's a prototype which was hand moulded from 3D printed parts.
I thought I was going crazy when I saw the moves of this thing!!
I couldn't agree more with a very nice comment from an audience called EMPER0RC0W, who wrote it on Oskar's video with a similar name,"Cubes on a Disk puzzle".
She/He said, "that looks absolutely stunning ! I love it ! ... its nice that you made both cubes have different colored stickers .. i think that adds quite a bit to the challenge .. plus makes it alot more interesting ! amazing !"
Great invention!
This is a hand cast prototype and does not reflect the quality of the Shapeways version.
The masters and ring were 3d printed but I cast the cubies in polyurethane resin.
If it was looser it would be horrible. Any slight unintended movement will block further moves. It would be very frustrating.
Where would you expect me to put that information?
@brandbestawesome We previously made the 4Cubes. That was my idea and led to Oskar coming up with this.
Then you are in luck. Use link in description. It comes DIY though and is not easy to assemble. Oskar may be able to supply one fully assembled and stickered
Whoa. That must be insanely hard to solve when it's all scrambled
How can you say V-Cubes suck when movement on most is superb? I assume once again you are exclusively rating it on their speedcubing capabilities? The primary function of a puzzle is for a person to work out how to solve it. In that respect the puzzles are of the highest quality excluding the 6x6x6 of course. Speedcubing is only a secondary function and relies on unnatural moves (corner cutting) and general rough treatment. A general "they suck" statement is clearly ridiculous.
@Monkeyzz101 WHY NOT DO BOTH?
Very cool, even though it does look tough to line up all of the pieces.
Yes they are smaller than regular ones.
Someone out there can solve this fvckin' pro cube with one hand
and that man is..
you geussd chuck norris
bruce lee
@KaiXevandStanley I was watching it on mobile so I couldn't see the discription past the word innovative, but I checked it on the computer and it's clear now. Thanks for not just calling me an idiot.
You can't solve each like a 4x4x4. Not all equivalent moves are possible.
This puzzle is awesome. If you could find a way to loosen it up and still make it possible to "swap turn" it, I would be an instant buyer.
Its really nice and i think is hardest as the on 4by4
How would you define the solved state? Since the whole 4x4x4 can rotate...
Not sure what you mean.
SHUT UP HE MADE HIS OWN THIS GUYS ARE AMAZING
I'd hate to see the new move notation they'd have to come up with for this. Have you considered four cubes on one disc? Or did you run out of colors after two?
I can solve3x3,4x4,5x5,6x6cubes but this is fabulousi want it where did you get it
link in description meatball...
Jeffrey Beitel That's a hilarious response after reading the replies to gwattspc214.
We all ready did four 3x3x3s on a ring (4Cubes) so this seemed the logical thing to do next.
i just want to ask you something. you make so many puzzles but can you solve them ?
This is very difficult!!
I thought it was lame, until you split them both, great job!
theoreticuly (I suck at spelling) you could solve this with one cube by swapping the disks right?
But will it blend?
Very nice puzzle and I really want one, Great Work!
You can't see it on my video since as I said this puzzle is 100% newly made.
Have you ever solved it.If so how long did it take you
You're a GENIUS!
How does that even work??
are those modded eastsheens, or completely custom puzzles?
Yes though it would be pretty big.
Did you solve that afterwards or just reassemble it?
That's insanely cool
can you solve it? cause that looks very dificult
I would love to see a disassembly/assembly video of this.
Any old rotation is fine.
Oskar + Tony = epic
didn't you make one similar to this?
As if having them on a whole different axis wasn't hard enough, why did they have to be 4x4's?
For what? This puzzles is 100% newly made.
Magic
where'd you get the purple stickers from?
I WANT I WANT IT I WANT IT well done man!!
Is it possible to make 1 with 2 disks?
It sounds pretty difficult to turn, lol. Have you tried lubricating it?f
moving cubelets from one cube to another? HOW IS THIS POSSIBRU?
i like the purple side :) ...(purples my favorite color) and your puzzles are EPIC!!
so is it essentially a 4x4x8?
i'm sure many cubers will love this challenge,
Wow! Thats neat!
Amazing cube.
Where you buy?
They're only colours so it's not difficult.
Tony, that cube is really stiff, does some lube solve the problem?
PERPOSTERAS? Is that from the Jurassic or the Cretaceous Period?
finally you can leave a comment youre videos are great
Tony, I think he is assuming you used a Rubik's brand 4x4 for that puzzle you and Oskar made.
awesome work
You are the best !!
Satan is in Hell right now manufacturing these things as torture devices for all of the people who can't figure these things out.
What kind of 4x4 cubes are those?
Please read description before asking questions. The answer is usually there.
SheikhAltijdGezeikhh
Kind of dumb comment. It teaches people to read the description before asking questions. Otherwise I am answering the same questions hundreds of times. It's not exactly rocket science, is it? They get the answer immediately and I am not wasting my time in future.
SheikhAltijdGezeikhh
That's exactly what I have done. Can you actually read???
Tony Fisher
Stop fighting! Tonys right. I hate telling people to look at the desc. AND ITS A BETTER ANSWER THAN TYPING IT AGAIN! and dont give me that copy-paste bs
That's insane
that is awesome.. i was so close to buying one of those out of impulse.. but i will have to have up 1st 190$ is like 2 months of food... def. on my Christmas list..
Use some graphite powder in between each of the slots, just a pinch should do, it will loosen it up. I use it on mine.
This is amazing just Awesome I think i might just purchase it :)
Thanks...I think.
