Omg, yes! Please pack these out! I’m in the market for a travel backpack and I’m genuinely curious to see these types of packs packed out to help me decide what pack to invest in. Thank you for making content like this - it is so informational, useful, and overall very well done!
Thank you for comparing these! It's great seeing them side by side. I sent back the Tomtoc because I thought it was too big for me, and I almost bought the Mini MLC too. I know now it will also be too big. I'll probably get the 28L Tomtoc.
Great review, the MLC ability to tuck away the shoulder and waist straps helps out if you put it under the seat especially in an aisle seat. You don’t want a strap sticking out as long as you don’t over pack it.this is a nice feature when boarding last and the top storage is full. The four rings are great with elastic Velcro straps for a jacket, small duffel,or sling bag while walking through the airport.
Also, you can get this feature on Cabin Zero Classic Plus. Based on my experience, if you do not need stowable backpack straps Tomtoc is objectively better than Cabin Zero, all 3 bags are comfortable for 5+hrs carry: Cabin Zero Classic Plus 42L 1175g 54cm x 35cm x 20cm With luggage passthrough Stowable Backpack Strap Navigator-T66 Travel Laptop Backpack 40L 1180g 52cm x 34cm x 23cm With luggage passthrough Patagonia MLC 45L 1635g 55.88cm x 36.83cm x 19.304cm With luggage passthrough Stowable Backpack Strap
Haven't seen one of your reviews in my feed for a while. This one makes me remember how good you are. And the two products are spot-on for me, I have them both but have only used my Paty MLC once - I hate it's wasteful laptop slot where a normal sized laptop just spends the trip sliding from one end of the bag to the other. I can pack as much in the Tomtoc as in the Paty, and the laptop stays in place plus, yes, that kangaroo pouch tablet slot helps too. THANKS
The algorithm is failing me! 😆 Thanks for watching though. I can see that about the MLC, the laptop sleeve is a little large and can't be used for much else so it's kind of a waste if you're not carrying a laptop.
Got the Tomtoc and so far I like it. The Patagonia is nice but just looks to busy on the outside. Tomtoc looks cleaner and that’s what I like. Plus small branding I also like and for almost half the price.
Thanks for the great work, as always! BTW while I considered the ULA Dragonfly for personal item under the seat bag, I went with the GoRuck Bullet Double Compartment instead and am so pleased with it. It's much cheaper than the other Go Ruck bags. Perhaps you can review it one day?
Woo. A pinnacle video comparison for this style of backpack (it’d be great if you could throw in the Arcane Duffel in as well :P). Recently got into minimalist backpacking (trynna hit that 7kg limit from Zipair) so I had to skip the Tomtoc due to its weight. Considered the Osprey Arcane Duffel but seems like it’s on its way out plus I’m too cheap for my first (carefully chosen) backpack. Found a 36L backpack from Ikea (Valrdens 36L) that has the same opening style! Super minimal (read cheap) but most importantly, light weight (760g if Im not mistaken). The backpack has 2 external pockets, a laptop compartment, stowable straps, and…uh that’s it. Not even a bottle pocket or small top pocket. On sale now for 35 CAD (until Dec 31 2024). Well, can’t complain much with that price tag! It’d be cool if you decide to make a review on this super cheap backpack. Smaller styles could make good personal backpacks as well For non-budget airline, the Mini MLC and its substantial strapping points got me intrigued. But the Tomtoc price tag got my wallet intrigued even more 😅 And yes, pack-out demo please if the offer still stands! P/s: Helly Hansen also got a super minimalist packable duffel style backpack (Canyon Duffel Pack). Not a lot of useful info found anywhere about the backpack itself but seems like it got a ripstop nylon material. Sorry for hijacking this video to talk about minimalist backpacks
If it's faster and easier than the current system I'd like it. I'm sitting in SFO right now and security wasn't bad, but some airports need it more than others. I'm curious to see how the trials go.
@@OneBagTravels An idea for your channel could be also talking about the 'travel' aspect, as you've already covered the 'one bag' part pretty comprehensively. I, for one, would be interested in hearing your tips and stories.
Great comparison, both great bags! I got the Navigator from Tomtoc way before any of western made reviews where made on youtube. I found it by accident. I was looking for a backpack like this in form and packing style, that was especially lightweight so I do not lose packing capacity in terms of weight. Reason is I need it for travelling by airplane, so weight definitely is an issue. Though I typically do not really like the patagonia bags because of their big and big, sometimes flashy branding, this bag really stands out. I love how this one has more organisation while still keeping it simple enough. Also the box-like shape is very nice. And the colour of this particular one looks amazing. The price is definitely ok for it. I think both are great and no matter which one you take you will be happy. :) PS: Tomtoc has some reaaally great slingbags. I think they are maybe a little more thought-out than the navigator. Definitely worth a look.
Interesting, even though they started in the US (at least their headquarters is here now), they became popular overseas first before catching on here? I'll check out the sling bags, thanks!
i would love to see a review for the gregory border traveler 30! haven't seen it talked about much and I'm debating between that bag and the thule aion bag so hoping to make a decision between the two. thank you for your videos, i ran through them all and they are extremely helpful!
Hard choices. Love Patagonia's environmental and labor ethics and practices. While Tomtoc is a good value. I will get one in near future for my upcoming domestic and international trips.
Patagonia seems better. (maybe next time u can start the video with a overlay text -left side of the screen and right one -with both names and size and weight in inch and cm.. ) thanks for the video. good idea?
Can you go over the 28L tomtoc? I’m looking for the biggest personal item I can carry. The MLC is slightly too big but might work if it was squished down. The tomtoc is much closer 28L
Chec out this table, you can sort by laptop compartment style, size, etc. Should help you narrow it down. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xIMBaSlyFbQ7FSU5nKXn8VICaOkASUOR9HaKxRYAheE/edit?usp=sharing
MLC stands for "Maximum Leagal Carry" or "Maximum Legal Carryon." That used to be what they called it in the original MLC bag years ago, now it's a mini-maximum, which doesn't really make sense, so I think they just call it the "MLC" and don't explain what it stands for.

Great, I'll put a packing demo on my list

I'll have to try out the smaller one, seems like a good option
Tomtoc 28l is also perfect for me.

I'm about to board a plane with the GR2 but I'm also curious about the Bullet
Another great review, perfect comparison, cheers! Packing comparison would be great!
Thanks!
80 bucks for a backpack is wild. 200 for a backpack is complete lunacy.
Some bags are pushing $4-500 now 😲😲
looking at it from a volume versus weight ratio, there's alot more volume in the tomtoc for only a few extra grams... wouldn't have thunk it.
Yep, Tomtoc is much simpler, less pockets to take up space and weight
Thanks for the review🤟
Great bag Tomtoc

That's a good deal, I'll look into those!

Good review, but great tip on using the front elastic cordage for washing line. One less thing in my pack!
Absolutely!
Would love the tomtoc if the water bottle holders were better. Total dealbreaker. This is an excellent comparison, thank you.
True, great pack but waterbottle is lacking

YES please on doing a pack out comparison video!

Exactly, difficult choices
Please do the comparison when packing them out! It would be very helpful.
Ok!
Thanks look like I got a tomtok coming soon
Nicceee
Can you stow the tomtoc under airline seat?
It's a little big to fit under most seats but you can get away with it occasionally.
Great videos!
Thanks!
Also do you think you can put a tripod on the side compartment on the tomtoc?
Yeah, the pocket is short but you could secure it down with the compression straps.
In the process of designing a bag, how do I reach u!
You just did! 😆
the patagonia is very nice...
Another vote for a packing test!
Ok!
If i may ask, what's your build like? That short shoulder straps worries me a bit,but not sure how big and tall you are. Thank you.
5'11" tall,
Just to confirm, the color of your Patagonia Mini MLC in this video is Smolder Blue right?
Yep!
@@OneBagTravels thank you
Versus daylite 26+6?
That would be a good comparison

That's a good idea, but I'm not sure my editing skills are up to it 😆😊

It's on my review list
can you recommend any other backpacks with the same style
of laptop compartment to look into?

I wish there was a hip belt for the Tomtoc.
what MLC means?

MLC FTW not even close imo
It's a good bag for sure
So paying more the double for the name once again is proving to no longer be worth it. Great review.
Patagonia is still higher quality, but maybe not twice as good
Pack'em out!
Ok!
