Brings back so many memories!u Waiting for dad to bring home the next copy of Truck and Driver to come out yo see some of these beauty’s gracing the pages. Paul Bins always ran a top fleet. Particular favorite of mine in there was the Scammel that Allelys ran and I loved to see a Pegasus on the road, wonder if any of those survived.. Only thing missing here though is a Ford Cargo.

Noted, I'll make sure there's a good selection of cargos in the next one 👍

There are a precious handful who are still operating, those that aren't bring back many memories. However, there have been so many long-established and easily recognisable companies that have ceased trading recently (two more announced only today) that the transport scene is sadly changing week by week. That gallery of stills is nostalgia, to be sure!

I think 80s 90s trucks had more character than the trucks we drive now

They may have more character but today's trucks certainly have more refinement. There's not a driver around today who would travel the country in a day cab housing a straight six gearbox and a 180 Gardner! I did for many years in the '80s and so did many others; it was part and parcel of the job at the time but I would put modern specifications well above past appearance!!

At 18 I was running over to Europe in a ford cargo day cab! No sat nav, no phones, no night heater, no bunk just a piece of wood across the seats and a sleeping bag…. I loved every second of it.

I understand your comment. For many years back in the early '80s I drove a low-powered 180, often pulling a 40' trailer with a single axle right on the 'backside' end, and with similar sleeping arrangement to you all over the country and, for six months, travelling over to Northern Ireland. I, too, loved it because from my primary school years it was all I wanted to do. Even so, and looking back, it would've made the profession (HGV driving is a profession and not a job) a lot more comfortable if we'd had a few more refinements. My company told me what unit I was to drive; I think nowadays companies consult drivers what new units they would prefer in order both to keep them happy and recruit new blood!
