He CLEARLY wrote the CERN machine into the show. How do ppl not see this? It literally showed it!!! It's fuckin CERN! It transports us to another parallel universe the one closest to our original that's why the changes are so subtle, that is the only difference. The changes they portrayed were massive ones like bringing dead people back. You'd have to jump faarrrr for that to happen imo. This shit is widely discussed among intellectuals. The smartest kid on earth right now literally made a video breaking it all down. We are moving to alternate realities that are no longer our originals.... shits changing slowly but surely. I think they fire up cern again next weekend?

Personally I think it's just one giant example of how one person's delusions driven by guilt can drive them to believe they can truly control everything. It's a parallel to Elliot, an anarchist driven by guilt/sadness, becoming so wrapped up in his own world view to a point where he begins hurting people around him with little remorse - he's supposed to be just like Whiterose, except Elliot has seen himself for what he is and has the opportunity to stop someone like Whiterose from losing it completely and taking out their sorrow on the entire world. The time travel aspect seems to stem from a wanting to control, a theme throughout the entire show, but instead of giant conglomerates, they want to control the very fabric of time and space itself, the delusion of self importance and overwhelming guilt for the death of her lover has driven Whiterose to a breaking point where we look towards the impossible for answers, because when you already rule the world and can't have what you want, what else is there to do?

If this show has shown us anything it's the reality of mental health issues. Perspectives vs. Reality.
Whiterose is a Psychopath and the viewer will see not this crazy project AKA "ridiculous fantasy" but the truth of how a delusional person with good intentions can convince others they are in control and to give up power.
It's a big scam. Elliott isn't a full blown Psychopath because he shows empathy, but has Multiple personalities. Elliott is a realistic person with bad intentions trying to convince others they are not in control and to take back the power. Angela is a normal empathetic person who really fell for the ideal of whatever is good is right. Whiterose is so crazy and manipulative she gave Angela an empathy/gullibility test as Elliott quotes, "she exploited your feelings about your mom and used them against you, that's what she does."
"This so called project of hers, it stems from an obsessive psychotic denial of reality."

I think White Rose is building a simulation similar to the the San Juinpero Black Mirror episode that resembles the world but can be changed to fit the desires of each person connected to it using data collected from their consciousness. Rather than traveling actual time, it would create a virtual different timeline of someones life, bringing people who have died back. The scene with Angela doing the test with White Rose and her younger self could actually be inside the prototype of the simulation and would explain it's dream like otherworldy strangeness

I've always imagined a similar thing like that where it's specifically for people with mental issues or for those who are about to die just so they could relive their memories and possibly change it in their simulation, so that the former can be possibly treated and the latter can die peacefully with much lesser regret in life or just the idea of flashing life behind their eyes in a much more simulated way.

Time travel is highly strongly suggested, it's not far fetched only because it doesn't seem possible in our reality. It's probably going to be a ridiculous end which all these characters motivations lead to. Why would Whiterose want something material of she/he's can have it all? There just has to be some metaphysical reason.

    Here's a theory:
Maybe it's not a device to help someone travel through time, but what if it's a machine that can allow someone to hack time itself. It would be liking using the timeline as one big console command, like in a PC game. One could manipulate the command to get something completely new, or to bring back an item that you, the player, have lost. What if White Rose plans to hack time to save her lover. If that is true, then Elliot could use the device to delete all of his childhood trama, giving him the normal childhood he desires.
My God, what if the machine actually works, and Elliot was the test subject? It could be possible that the Dark Army used the device to hack Elliot, giving him and Darlene a horrible life because maybe those two come close to actually beating the Dark Army, and the Dark Army tries to stop them by hacking the timeline, and "future" Elliot got wind of this. So he enacted a fail-safe, or an "anti-virus" to protect his younger-self from the time changes, and if that's true then the anti-virus could only be one person. Mr.Robot....

Nicely made video, but I think the time travel stuff seems a bit too out there, even for this show. I think what is more likely is white rose has found a way to simulate the consciousness of people with data and memories of others. It seems like white rose showed Angela a glimpse of a simulation of her mother and convinced Angela that a full version is possible. That would make the undying loyalty of the dark army much more understandable, as they believe that they can be brought back to life in the form of an AI and live on forever.

That would fit in the whole Blade Runner theme that shows up in the show. With Tyrell at E Corp = Tyrell Corp in Blade Runner. That one single photo Elliot has that shows first him and his mom only and then change into a family photo. Just like Racheal in BR has that one photo of her and her mother that she thinks is proof that she is a real human and not a replicant (a robot) but later turns out to be just a planted memory. Heck, in BR there is also the Voight-Kampff test, which is designed to distinguish replicants from humans based on their emotional response to questions just like Angela and Tyrell are force to take. And there is Elliot with his superhuman ability to hack any system in very little time.
However; I think it might be simpler than that. And the fish is the key. Angel says to Whiteroses, "Your fish died". What's with the fish? Why is it there? What we don't see is most likely that Whiterose somehow reversed that death and it's what convinces Angela that there is hope of getting her mom back. So I'm still on the time travel/reversal side. There are just too many clues that point to that.

WhiteRose’s machine would enable her to be “who she truly is” like the adoption of an avatar in a video game. Time would be of no constraint within a simulation either and you could theoretically live forever, thus she “hacks time”

Her life got ripped apart and her worldview got shattered. We now all got a glimpse what global crisis can do to a persons mind. We focus a lot on Elliot's troubles we forget about Angela. Her career tanked, her next career was nepotism which she never knew about and she finds out her dad ain't her father. She is totally unsuccesful in choosing a right partner and even falls for one or two of Elliots darker personalities who turns out personally destroyed the world economy overnight. Her rigorous work ethic and drive was her way to not start slipping. But all this tripped her and in walked Whiterose with a near copy of her as a child telling her time is an illusion and every pain can be reversed. She was soothed by madness. Like the real Elliot pushed into a dream loop where everything is going to be fine in the end.

I almost feel like they were going to dive deeper into the concept of time travel and parallel dimensions, but decided not to. I always think about what Darlene said (after doing a few too many lines of coke) about how she thought she saw Angela even though Angela was dead. I also thought they were going to do more with the machine that WR was building.
By far the creepiest part of the show for me was when Angela showed up at the lawyers house after meeting with WR, completely brainwashed into believing in the Dark Army’s mission. She seemed so utterly convinced and almost dead - as if she herself had a second personality. I wish we had at least gotten more of a peek into hers and WR’s conversation, or maybe could have been able to see what WR actually showed to make her so convinced.

I believe the "event" of time travel already happened and that Elliot is at the centre of it. This is why when we begin Elliot has no memory of his father or sister. And everyone keeps telling him that he is the key to the whole thing. It even might be that this whole show/world is the event happening but there are glitches preventing it from going smoothly. ***Spoilers from 4x07 ahead*** We just learned that Elliot was sexually abused by his father, so if time is reversed he would end up with his father still alive AND still abusive. So there is this struggle of what to do. Maybe Elliot was made to forget so that he would go along with whatever has to take place to reverse time. But his subconscious mind knows what would happen if his father was alive again so he fights it. This is why we had those episodes of Elliot trying to prevent E corp's hardcopy records from being destroyed while Mr. Robot (who knows what happened to Elliot) and Tyrell trying their best to destroy everything.

Or maybe it's in the sense of the age old question: Are we part of a dream? How do we know this is reality?
How do we know we are not in some Matrix-like construction?

My guess is that the project is all about proving the existence of parallel realities and giving people the ability to have some sort of mental communication with their parallel selves, or to travel to other realities where bad events in the past never happened. In rewatching the series I've started to think that some sort of breeding program is going on, taking those with some latent ability to step between realities and creating a new breed of humans who can live in whichever version of reality best suits them. So Elliot's father and Angela's mother were involved in the early stages of this plan, sacrificing their lives and giving birth to Elliot and Angela, who were intended to carry on the breeding program, with Elliot's various identities being a result of his ability to perceive other realities and move between them. I'm thinking the Wellicks are part of the same program, which is why Tyrell believes he and Elliot were destined to be 'gods' together. Obviously there are plenty of other consistent explanations, my current favourite being that the Wellicks aren't human at all, they're either aliens or some sort of extra-dimensional entities who kick-started the whole process, there's certainly something deliberately uncanny about them, and their ability to control and manipulate others, and Tyrell with his mysterious blue glow in the forest.

    @andreasstock8539 4 роки тому +3

My theory is that the machine gets revealed like it can change the past, but it only changes memories. Because time travel seams just a little bit too weird for this (kinda) reality-based show. It would make sense because just now in season 4 Elliot learned something that he might like to forget. Even trow he will probably chouse not to forget, and to keep living in reality. It would be a great twist.
All that talk about changing the past was White Rose lying to herself and others. It is not possible. But White Rose is so determined and desperate to do it that she just sticks to this impossible Believe even if it means she has to change her own mind. It would be a great contrast between Elliot accepting his past and White Rose not being able to do that.
It would also explain how she convinced Angela. I mean she couldn't have shown her the power of her time machine anyway, because even if it is a time machine it wouldn`t be working jet. But if she has a prototype and smaller-scale mind-changing machine, she could just change enough of Angela's mind to convince her of the time machine Existence. Angela does go a little bit crazy after her meeting with White Rose, so that could be a side effect of the unfinished machine.

I have to say, Mr. Robot surprised me for how special it is. The main thing I commend it for is the way Esmail obviously had a plan and followed it meticulously, which is what any show on TV usually lacks. So, great going there. But I'd like to express a doubt and hear more opinions about it: it seems to me the issue of (SPOILER ALERT, don't read if you haven't watched S4)
Mr. Alderson's abuse of Elliot, I think, might have been an afterthought that Esmail wouldn't have actually put in the story originally. Hear me out on this: at the beginning Mr. Robot looks like a crazy conspirationist and more and more of an exalted terrorist. At the same time, Elliot's dad from flashbacks seems a genuine great guy, great dad. Of course, it might have just been the illusion society gives us about such individuals.
But, by and by, we grow attached to Mr. Robot, until we find out he's actually a split personality of Elliot. And that's where we start being conflicted, because on one hand we root for Elliot, but on the other hand we've grown fond of Mr. Robot and we'd really like to find a way to reconcile him with Elliot himself. And so around season 3-4 there's this shift; Mr. Robot becomes more likeable, we don't want to lose him, his actions get more justification and less harmful impact on others... and at the same time we are slowly introduced to a colder relationship between Mr. Alderson and Elliot (notice the beginning of S4, when Elliot just leaves his dad in the middle of the cinema hall while he goes and watches the movie on his own).
There's a specific moment where I felt like the great cohesion of the story cracked: when Darlene tells Elliot that his memory of his father pushing him out the window was wrong, and he actually jumped himself. That felt very weird to me, because Elliot reacts like this is news to him. But we already knew Mr. Alderson had not pushed him; in fact, when in Season 1 (?) Mr. Robot pushes Elliot off the peer, he's already revealed to Elliot that Elliot had jumped out of the window of his own volition, and also that the reason Elliot did it was because he felt guilty for telling his mom about his dad's illness. He even says a line about "trust" and promises. I thought that was a very interesting psychological theme to explore, Elliot's self-harm due to guilt, and it would have made sense. But that line sort of died down, and it was much later replaced with this one. Well, to me it felt like Matrix's black cat: you see something twice when the system changes something. So, it felt like retcon.
I wonder if it's because as Elliot's character developed Esmail gave him a darker story, made him cross the line even worse than he'd planned, and for that reason he needed a stronger and more painful trauma in his past to counterbalance and explain his brokenness. It's just an idea, but it keeps nagging at me. I'd really like to hear other people's thoughts.

    • @alfredgarcia6844
      @alfredgarcia6844 8 місяців тому

Interesting point, but I don’t at all agree that Elliot being surprised by the reveal of the actual truth surrounding the window event is in any way weird. He was aware of his actual actions within the situation, but because Mr Robot is (Without him even knowing it) how he really views his father combined with Mr Robot hiding the real context from him muddles his perception of reality, which is why he was surprised when Darlene told him because it was almost as if he’d forgotten. We also have to remember that when Elliot “Learned” he threw himself out the window, he thought he was talking to his father, not Mr Robot, which is very important when we consider his perception of that event.

I think the alternate virtual reality/matrix scenario is more likely, especially because of the line at 4:22. The show has always been grounded in reality and I think time travel would be too much. Simulated realities are something we definitely know are possible, unlike time travel. The equations on the whiteboards we saw a few episodes ago are related to quantum mechanics so quantum computing will probably be used to achieve this. People won't literally go back in time but they will be able to live in virtual reality with people that are long gone as if they had.

Of course, there is one way that a time machine can be both real and wholly consistent with the Mr Robot universe. That is, if it is revealed that Elliot is living in and part of a simulation and if the programmer/creator of the simulation implements a time machine then it will be real in their world.

I think that the flashback in which Whiterose's lover killed himself is key. There were literally white roses at the center of that scene and they turned red because of the blood. Whiterose's plan is to go back in time and change that moment.

Whiterose is not building a time machine but a virtual universe equal to this one, but with a different timeline or slightly in the past. A simulation, a matrix. She is building matrix. The second theory of mine was that she's building a replicant. This could be confirmed by numerous Easter eggs, like Tyrell etc. She promised to Angela to took back her mother, as a replicant, Whiterose want his ex love as a replicant etc..

Except... Why the shot of the giant interior of some kind of mega particle accelerator? Why the need to divert so much of the planet's resources? Clones typically (in sci-fi lore) happen in vats and test tubes. You can clone life in a po-dunk university lab.

@@MarkOakleyComics that's a great question. I can only answer that by saying, it's to keep us wondering about the project. I also think that the whole fixation with time is to bring back lost ones by cloning. For example the scene where Angela sees her younger self. That could be a clone of her younger genetics. My theory. I could be wrong but it's an intriguing thought nonetheless.

Time travel is impossible for living things since it requires an infinite amount of energy and something with mass simply can't survive light speeds or being exposed to you know that infinite energy... Besides of that there are hundreds of technical issues including earth position in space while "time traveling" and if it was possible we would know by now since time travelers would be everywhere! What might be possible is sending energy thru time space (a message) but if parallel universes are real it might get lost in one of these infinite universes. One last thing time is not lineal but all we can experience is each passing day.

My simplized theory is that its all a simulation. Time travel. S4 name of episodes resemble computer responses. The double take finale ending of inner elliot and real elliot diff versions. There are different theories* and all are possible in this show because its all a computer or simulation. I also think time travel is a relevant subject in the form that elliot has to remember* his past, his abuse, as if* going back in time figuratively. Usually in film, things that are said or represented arent actually physically direct, they are moreso symbolic and real meaning is the relation tied to the themes of the film/show.

Unsure how I'd feel about this if it turned out to be true. It would certainly make for a mindboggling story, but one of the reasons I love Mr Robot is that it's so firmly rooted in reality. If all that authenticity were to be nullified by turning the whole thing into sci-fi at the last second, I'd be pretty upset. Then again, if the time travel theory isn't true, there is really no good explanation for why Angela was so easily brainwashed into believing her mother could be brought back.

This theory actually makes quite a lot of sense. The reuse of the child actor is a huge sign although the main thing would be if that was the case then White Rose's project would already be complete. It's quite strange, time travel does feel just a touch too sci fi and if the show wanted to they could of had a bit more fictional technology. But then again as the CEO said it's a crazy impossible plan so maybe it is a dillusion.

The show ended, we now all know that there’s no machine that can reverse time. What Price’s said to Angela was right. The death of Whiterose’s love was a severe trauma to her and that’s why she’s been having the fantasy of bringing people back.
End of SS4, we’re back to reality, where we get the last message from the show, from Elliot

    • @pirimpallopirimpalli4932

you know, I wondered if the show actually meant to leave us with a nagging doubt that maybe the machine Whiterose meant to activate through an atomic plant actually was real. Whether it would have worked or not, it might be a further step of doubt. But above all, I think this "doubt" thing is what fits the show most of all: this isn't a show where we hear about fancy tech from sci-fi theories; this is a show where we delve through the human mind by defragmenting it like clusters in a computer. It doesn't matter so much whether plot ABC follows the correct order and the knight ends up saving the princess; what matters is how actions and thoughts are put into sequence, how different points of view confront each other and how the pieces manage to find their place in the multidimensional puzzle of reality. That's why we consider this show grounded in real life: because real life doesn't follow a script, we may try but we most often fail to fit its bits in specific categories. And that's what destabilises us.
So what I mean to say is, it doesn't matter so much how Whiterose's supposed machine might actually work, or even whether it actually existed or not. What matters is, time, history and reality are a mess however you look at them. The best accomplishment you can achieve is to make sense of yourself and find wholeness in your own mind.
