  • I met Christina Qi virtually at the Princeton Quant Conference in 2023. I was really impressed with her presentation on hedge funds, data, and career advice. I connected with her on LinkedIn and found her posts insightful as she explains a lot about what she is doing career-wise even when it isn't the trendy thing to do. I invited her as a guest on the podcast to learn more about her and her career. One of the best points she makes in this interview is the importance of work-life balance.

    Such a great interview worth every minute, both of you were amazing! I love the human element in her despite heading a hedge fund.

    Christina has some interesting books on her shelf! Some were blurry, is there a chance she would do a quick what's on my shelf video?

    What kind of degree would you take to learn how to make models and strategies? On that topic what kind of degree would you take to learn how to setup a fund? That all sounds really interesting but from the outside looking in it is very confusing.

    One thing I've wondered about your videos is if they help or hinder your career. I've been thinking about starting a new channel related to my career once I find my footing and I always wondered if employers would care, assuming I'm still being professional in the videos.
    On one end, it could bring me more exposure to myself professionally in a way my entertainment channel would not do. This could help get my name out there and ameliorate my career growth.
    On the other end, some employers may not see value in content creators and may even not like seeing an employee making videos related to their career, even if the videos are entirely unrelated to the company. I've heard stories of people accidentally getting themselves fired over Tik Tok videos they made (mainly posting things that they probably shouldn't have posted), but I often wonder if employers could have a problem with an employee simply creating helpful content, like you do.
    As a UA-camr who has a growing channel related to your career, do you think starting a channel related to your career is helpful, harmful, or both?

      probably better to ask your company. some might not mind as long as you dont talk about the company etc, while some might not like it at all.

    What broker should I use to run my own small hft strategy? Is it even possible to start far away from the stock exchanges?

    That's a really insightful video. Especially her take on the so called competitive nature and feelings one gets through the career journey.

    HFT has bad reputation even inside of finance, there are good reasons for it it seems. What economic purpose does it serve ? Can it destabilise markets ? Etc

    • @suckmyartauds
      @suckmyartauds Рік тому

      Its function is increasing liquidity I guess. If you came into finance and economics for sanity and logic you're not going to find it in the mainstream _or_ HFT 😅

    I did market data collection for stocks, from Interactive brokers, using a Delphi library/component. My compiler is C++ Builder. Not a popular dev environment but 'most excellent' IMHO. I'm working on a strategy now. I'm trying to find a way to avoid commissions, I hope by year end I'll start to make money.

    How stable are quantitative jobs in finance? Does it make sense to leave academia for the financial sector hoping to find more stability?

    Great interview. I think many professional paths are often more careening curves rather than straight lines and it seems that was her experience.
