Howdy. I believe the Folgers commercial you are referring to was the very first time a synthesizer was used in a commercial. It was a Mini Moog. Really nice stuff here. Good video.
I saw and played a set of these 🙏🏽 At a Drum Shop in Southfield Michigan, and yes Gon Bop and they had skin heads and they were beautifully finished and that was the last time I saw em until now ‼️ Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽
There are plans for boo bams in the book Sound Designs by Reinhold Banek and John Scoville. They 're in the chapter "balimbafon," and Drum City is mentioned. Anyway, great video, as always!
In the early 80s iteration of King Crimson, @BillBruford used a set of 6 octoban styled drums which he always referred to as boo bams (or Tiger drums depending on interview). He would strike them instead of hi-hats
I was Raised in Sausalito Ca , in Gate Five(an abandoned ww11 ship yard ) there was a guy there who claimed to be the inventor ,and he made his of Bamboo, hence the name ,I can understand getting away from that ,in California ,bamboo is famous for cracking ,and thats not good.! LOVE THIS want one naturally ,
Steely Dan, “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number,” intro and throughout background and outro? Or is that bass marimba or a very low tongue drum? I always thought it was Emil Richards on Boo Bams... ua-cam.com/video/kaxMrzrkzwI/v-deo.html
This really reminds me of this instrument from myanmar ua-cam.com/video/a2rQaZ7RXuY/v-deo.html I’ve seen it called the “circle drum”? Either way, i’m infatuated with the sound Edit: Ah, so it is called the Pat Waing en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_waing

Cool instrument. Zappa used one on "The Clap" from the album Chunga's Revenge. Thanks for the video!
First time I've seen flat mallets. If I'd ever get my hands on a pair I'd call them the spatulets.

Nice slap cans!
So THIS is the instrument that plays at the beginning of the Odd Couple theme song.
This reminds me of the drum's trilok gurtu used to play back in the day.
Very interesting!! Thank you for sharing Kalani!🥰
Used in Land of the Sand People on the Star Wars soundtrack.
A great substitute is roto toms with a moon gel. Sounds almost identical
She is good!
Abby totally rocks on LP Udders too!
greetings, where is this beautiful place of drums? thanks for sharing
awesome
I think these were used as the tusken raiders music for Star Wars. Those weird sand guys with the masks.
Where does one source drumheads in such a small diameter?
Louie Bellson's "I'm shooting high" 1959 live album at The Flamingo
Are these the drums Brent Lewis uses on his albums?
Very cool.
Like set of capped Blue Man Group tubes.

They look like Octoban druns
Nice unusual instrument, but due to space constraints I'll take a pass in ever owning it.
