I had a guy friend (R) in Grade 8 who's parents were divorced. His dad up and left to New York when he was 6, his parents had to go through the whole process over phone as he refused to go back to their city, because of that his mom has permanent full custody. His dad didn't care, he didn't want him. Since his parents divorced R said he wasn't very trusting of older men, any time his mom got a boyfriend he would keep distant. He especially kept distant if they tried to replace his dad early in the relationship. R didn't like his dad, but he didn't want to get attached to another man like that only to be hurt when they leave. Two years ago, about Grade 9, his mom got married to the boyfriend (C) she was seeing when I met R. Last week R messaged me a picture of him, G, C, and his daughter (V) in a court room. They were going through the adoption process. G was adopting V, and C was adopting R. C was the first man R trusted, he showed him love and slowly slid into the roll of a father as that trust was building, C had been dating G for about 4 years when I met R, he waited 5 years for R to accept him before marrying G. He then waited 2 years for R to love him before adopting him. I hadn't spoken to R in about 3-4 years now, we went to different high schools, but I helped him in that last year before his parents married. I let him rant and gave him tips and advice. He must have remembered that (and my number) seeing as he messaged me just to tell me that. I'm really glad he's happy and has found a family that loves him. I sent him this cover and told him to either play it or sing it at his parents anniversary party next month. He loves this song, for obvious reasons. This is a great cover, you have an amazing voice. This song means so much to me as my dad abandoned me at the age of 16 when I came out to him and I haven't heard anything from him for 9 years and my boyfriend sadly passed away on the 11th of March 2021 from cardiac arrest so a massive thank you for doing this beautiful cover
