The FIRST thing we would do upon discovering a planet with other intelligent beings is attempt to make contact with them and communicate with them, why wouldn’t other aliens do the same if they discovered us? Intelligence is useless without curiosity because without curiosity there would be no learning. The ONLY reason we’ve advanced as far as we have as a species is because of our endless curiosity and desire to learn more, so if there was another intelligence species out there that knew of our existence they would certainly also have the same curious instinct to make contact and to study us. There isn’t a single logical reason why they would choose to stay hidden. If there’s a similarly or more intelligent species out there, they don’t know of our existence or else they would’ve made contact by now, no doubt about it.

But... if we take something we know for a fact, that our galaxy has at least one intelligent species in it, and we extrapolate that out to all of the other two or more trillion other galaxies in the know universe, that would mean there are at least 2 trillion other intelligent species out there. Of course, that doesn't mean a thing. What's true in our galaxy doesn't necessarily hold true for the rest of the universe, but there are untold trillions of worlds out there and thus lots of chances for it to happen more than once. If they were only in other galaxies I doubt we would ever encounter them, though it's not impossible. They could be thousands, millions, or even billions of years more advanced than us. Who knows what they might be capable of. Maybe popping to the next galaxy over is just a Sunday drive for them, hehe.

The ONLY reason we’ve advanced as far as we have as a species is because of our endless curiosity and desire to learn more, so if there was another intelligence species out there that knew of our existence they would certainly also have the same curious instinct to make contact and to study us. There isn’t a single logical reason why they would choose to stay hidden.
If there’s a similarly or more intelligent species out there, they don’t know of our existence or else they would’ve made contact by now, no doubt about it.

But... if we take something we know for a fact, that our galaxy has at least one intelligent species in it, and we extrapolate that out to all of the other two or more trillion other galaxies in the know universe, that would mean there are at least 2 trillion other intelligent species out there.
Of course, that doesn't mean a thing. What's true in our galaxy doesn't necessarily hold true for the rest of the universe, but there are untold trillions of worlds out there and thus lots of chances for it to happen more than once.
If they were only in other galaxies I doubt we would ever encounter them, though it's not impossible. They could be thousands, millions, or even billions of years more advanced than us. Who knows what they might be capable of. Maybe popping to the next galaxy over is just a Sunday drive for them, hehe.
