Thanks for the video! My 5yo daughters summer league was going to be cancelled without a coach so here I am, frantically learning how to coach youth soccer. I've literally never played. 🤣
My daughter loves soccer. She has played 3 seasons. This year the 8 yr olds didnt have a volunteer. So it was going to be canceled. My wife asked me and i was like no way, i have no idea how to coach, but then i saw the look on my daughter's face. So i said, you know what, ill do it. I'll learn how to,and her face lit up. Kids needs this. You're the first video i saw. I hope i do a good job. I played a little as a teen... but a coach... I'm terrified.
Hope it went well for you! I'm in the same boat and today was our first practice. Felt a little odd to be honest especially since I'm not familiar with the game 😭
This is my first time coaching let alone i dont know anything about soccer but my son is starting next week and i volunteered as a assistant coach but didnt expect to become a coach to 7 kids! Im scared not gonna lie but im glad i came across this thank u
@@sarahardin6451 my first practice went so AMAZING! We have practices every Monday and games on Saturdays. Our first game Saturday is going to be wild haha but they're so much fun. Hope your practices and games are just as fun!
This video is so helpful. I am my 7 year old’s soccer coach, and I have never coached soccer before in my life. I was the only parent to show up for the meetings but immediately reached out to all the parents when I got home from the meeting. I am so excited to do this! When I found out his team didn’t have a coach I wanted to volunteer to be the coach because it just seems like a way to have some fun with my oldest and teach him a few things.
So my son's Team needs a coach. I'm a big motivator but I know nothing about soccer. Yet I am now the Head coach of the SOCO Warriors. 😂😂😂 So I'm here.

Thanks for the video! Cuz here I am about to coach my daughter’s 9 year old soccer team this week because there is no coach and I have no idea how to coach soccer at all. I was a football player and wrestler. Wish me luck everyone! I’ll need it
Thank you for this video. I am coaching my 8 year old daughter team in November for the first time. Difficulty: we are in Argentina, where soccer rules. Losing a World Cup final match is a failure for us. Luckily, girls soccer is less stressful. You can find videos of parents squaring off against each other and or referees at ten year old kids games here!
I have found that there are two very distinct forms of coaching that have very different requirements. Team coaching v one-on-one coaching. I have done both. For team coaching, I think the key is to quickly get to the point of training mostly game simulation drills. I have several drills that involve the entire team in their positions where half the team plays against the other half, so half the defenders are playing defense on one side and half the defenders on the other side, etc. As for equipment, for team coaching you really need three goals, one as large as possible relative to their game goal and two that are half that size. You need pinneys, cones, a pump, and just 2-3 balls, mainly one for your child and 2 extra that hopefully will never get used. As for pinneys, I think it is good to have three color sets and I prefer ones with numbers. For one-on-one coaching, the needs are very different. I usually take 8 to 10 balls, a pump, cones, poles, a rebounder board, and one portable goal if I can't find a practice place with a full size goal. I would say that the three most important things in soccer training are: Positive motivation, learning proper technique with BOTH feet, and drills that most closely resemble real game scenarios. For example, if I do a passing drill, it will involve a line of defenders who also simulate the offside line and practice passes behind and beyond the offside line. Most coaches only talk about offside and then yell about it during the game. When I coach my daughter one-on-one, we do everything 50/50 with each foot. As a result, she is her team's leading scorer and she doesn't even think twice about using her left foot or right. When the ball is on the left side for a shot, she will automatically always take the shot with her left foot. So far, for the season, her goals are exactly 50% right and 50% left.

U11 depending if it is 9v9 or 7v7 at your club is really the tip of the iceberg. At a recreational level, I say work on passing and shooting. Eventually we will have some more content on here!
First time coach here 10U. Our head coach said he didn’t want to have that responsibility, he was forced into the role last season, and we are left without a coach. But I just don’t know how to know what drills to give them and allow them to engage in a fun way. And how do you know what player would be best in what role? I’d like them to grow and have the opportunity to play where they want, everyone wants to be a goal scorer, right? Any help would be great. Is there anyway to make money coaching youth sports? Is this like when you know you were not qualified to coach at the professional level so your only option is to coach kids for free and still work another job to make ends meet? I feel alot of coach dads take this too seriously when they aren't even getting paid for any results. Like maybe it's a free pass for them to yell at kids and make them feel bad if they suck at soccer. Because they couldn't afford a Porsche or Ferrari.
You could coach club soccer, most clubs do pay their coaches. I am fortunate enough to coach club and make some part time money. Recreational coaches are typically volunteers. That’s what this channel is being geared towards with the new content we’re putting together. Hopefully the coach dads and moms realize this sport should be fun regardless of the level!

I just started coaching this year and I absolutely love it. I started coaching because my son plays on the team and they were looking for another assistant coach so I volunteered and I absolutely love it. Teaching kids the sport I love more then any other sport in this world is such a good feeling and I'm glad i have the opportunity to help them fall in love with such a great sport
Coach's in us are so fat???!!!
