    Same year as my A408S! They are very strong performing machines, and I’m very happy with mine. Mines super rotted inside the cabinet from what I assumed was caused by a flood, but it still runs perfectly and does not leak at all! Great video! On a side note, that noise it makes while washing (the higher pitched whine) is the pump. Both of my Maytag’s made that noise and after replacing the pump on the A482, the noise went away.

      I've heard that from a couple people now! I may look into finding a pump. Do you know anywhere I can get belts for this washer? I got some from whirlpool that are supposed to be the same but they choked the motor so hard it would trip a breaker in a few seconds.

      @@nhrawashervideos6567 The belts i’m not sure. You may have to turn to ebay to find genuine OEM belts. I also ordered a set of belts for my machine that were not OEM and has the same issue with tripping the breaker, so I’ve been issuing the original belts, but I definitely need new ones. I’d suggest looking at some websites but your best bet would probably be something like ebay to find some new old stock genuine Maytag belts.

    Maytag and whirlpool with the surgulator agitator were the best machines built.

      Both machines are great, but Maytag is the winner because they are mechanically simpler, and they seem to be easier to service than the Whirlpool Belt Drive.

    Sometimes I think that these vintage machines were built to just work and wash. Today’s washers seem to be more for the features and looks and not the cleaning. I like the way automatic machines worked between the 1940s-early 2000s (the non-HE kind).

      They're a rare find! I got absurdly lucky with this deal. I only paid $50 for the washer in working condition.

    The automatic spot on the console is a blank to cover up the spot for 2 buttons for regular or gentle action on 2 speed models. My A 308 has one also.

    the pump in this one is noiser than usual. Love the sound as it brakes from spin.

    Ever since I was a child my third favorite appliance brand was Maytag. I like washers that are built tough and durable. My two other favorites were Kenmore and Whirlpool.....Here's my question, have you ever thought of doing a wash race? I have seen a few videos of people doing them.

    • @nhrawashervideos6567
      @nhrawashervideos6567  2 роки тому

      I've never thought of that idea, I would assume I start 2 or 3 machines at the same time on the same settings and have them race?

    • @ericgreen2195

      @@nhrawashervideos6567 Yes to see which washer finishes first. I never understood the purpose of it until I started watching videos of it by this guy Whichwasher 2007 where he had his washers race each other. Other people started doing it and I thought "If I had a collection of washing machines I'd do a wash race as well" It looks like a lot of fun.

    We have a similar machine... it is a work horse. Great machine! I would like to do a deep clean, give the machine a bit of respect. But can't figure out how to take it apart. I would love a video to show how to remove the bits and pieces, to clean it. I am not a mechanic, but it could not be that difficult. Ha ha ha.. I did not know you put the detergent in the center nozzle...

    Highly likely your injector nozzle is leaking upon fill, and possibly the hose clamp on the pump out hose is loose. Looks like the transmission oil has gotten thick due the sluggish start to agitation. Other than that, great find, and overall seems to be a good runner! Should last for many years. For the noisy pump, try taking the screw out, on the side, and oiling it with zoom spout before condemning it. Pumps are fairly inexpensive though, if that doesn't fix it.

    • @nhrawashervideos6567
      @nhrawashervideos6567  2 роки тому

      I actually met an old maytag mechanic, apparently maytag used to put a 100 watt lightbulb next to the transmission to heat the oil and keep it thin. Not sure if this one has that, but i thought that was very cool

    • @dynatrak
      @dynatrak 2 роки тому +1

      @@nhrawashervideos6567 That's a clever workaround! Repairing it the correct way involves disassembling the entire machine, draining, and refilling the transmission with new oil. Mine had an oil leak, so I had to take it all apart to replace one small o-ring. Decided just to refurbish the entire machine at that point.

    Nice machine man, My grandmother had one in white with a little more features than this
    This machine needs a new set of belts and a pump because it has an extra groan to it but otherwise super nice machine.

      I've been told about the pump and I can't find belts for it. I got a new set from whirlpool which were supposed to match but they were so tight they would cause the motor to trip the breaker in the spin cycle within a few seconds.

      Yeah the belts are worn and the noise it makes is from the pump. I have new belts on the way.

      @@nhrawashervideos6567 I also heard that it was because of the Transmission Oil getting thicker, something like that.
