5:174:56 I have never seen a more perfect representation of the architecture we have lost and the vacant uninspired garbage that has been put in its place. Thanks for your dedication to documenting history Angus.
Goodness those old buildings in the CBD were so beautiful! Where was the sense in demolishing them? I wish they could've at left kept the facades up like they did with the buildings on Murray street.
The arch was built in the workshops at the Zinc Works in Lutana, although good luck finding any design drawings (they’d be there somewhere in the deep dark archives)
Yep. I think there is an article about the construction of the arch in one of the EZ Reviews (magazine style employee newsletter). I'll see if I have a copy
Loved that, especially the houses at Maria. When I was at Lenah Valley Primary that site always looked spooky, like something from a Pink Floyd cover. Wonderful history thanks.
Realy interesting video. I'd love to see a video about all the underground things hidden around Hobart, like the working cinema under centrepoint, the ammunition vault under the park with the pirate ship playground between salamanca and battery point (the council rents it out for events and my son got married in it in 2019.) Bonus fact: George Jettson was born in 2022.
I loath that 70s box right on the waterfront. The sooner it goes the better! That NAB building isn’t much better. What a pity the Victorian one was lost, it looked gorgeous.
Thought the houses in Maria St New Town were demolished earlier than stated in this. The area was also known as Dole Hill. There was a shed/stable at my Grandfathers place that was said to be made from timber taken from Dole Hill when the houses were demolished. I don't remember it being build and believe it was built before I was born. This would make the houses or at least some of them being demolished in the '50s.
Another great, informative video. The Hobart skyline would be greatly improved if the marine board building and the NAB building were to disappear into the harbour or be recycled… The Two Lions are a great asset to St David’s Park

Fantastic series of videos on Hobart and surrounds, great work.
Really enjoyable clips, watching from Brisbane. Cheers
What a treat! Revealing nuggets of history that formed & reshaped Hobart from then to now...👍❤️
This is brilliant! Great research and well presented!
Thanks dude
The locals called it Dole Hill because of the public housing
Hey that was really good. I hope you do some more.

The arch that was out at Rosetta, my dad’s brother was a blacksmith and worked on it when they made it
Interesting, Ross. I wonder where the plans are these days. If they still exist.
@@angusthornett well and truely gone by now
What a great infomative video, well done.
Thanks for watching
I have just discovered your channel and am enjoying your content 👍

Thanks for watching
The Arch reminds me of the Rocketship and UFO that are up in the Playground in Ulverstone.
They're both of the same Googie style construction, that existed from the might 40s to the early 70s.
Awesome Angus. Brilliantly researched.
Thank you. You'd think they'd store the arches under cover.
My grandfather grew up in maria st
Have you seen the little cottage that's tucked in behind the nab building? I used to go through the yard thereto do maintenance on buidlings

Thank you, Rene. Yeah, the Lions are fantastic.
A nice bit of tassie history. The old buildings shit on their replacements. I bet the arch will not be repaired or painted
Brilliant. Thank you.
Are you channeling your doggies knowledge on this subject matter as she seem so smart ?
