My big pup likes a ton of room. He loves having space. He’s a 100 lb German Shepherd and I’m going to measure his XXL crate and make his future home that size with your instructions. Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve looked all over the place online for a house big enough for him and everything is way overpriced and not wide or tall enough for him to walk into. After seeing him ignore his igloo shaped home, I’m now going to fly to Home Depot and finally make him a custom home! Our dogs deserve a safe and comfy home too!! ♥️🐶🐶♥️
Aww that's so great to hear! I looooove German Shepherds! I almost got one, but the second I saw Ghost, I knew he had to come home with me! Let me know how your build goes!!
One the easiest builds I’ve seen. I like it. My only issue is it’s not tall enough. Huskies already have health issues I feel this would only add to it.
I wish I had a dog to build one of these for. Hey, my neighbor has a dog and he does a ton of things for me. Wouldn;t it be cool to surprise him and set one of these in his driveway?
Great Job!! I''ve been looking at videos to build a dog house for my dog. I think I will go with this one, it doesn't look too difficult! Thanks for the video!
That's awesome! Yeah it was super simple to do, the hardest part was finding the time to make it haha. You gotta let me know how it comes out! I hope the pup loves it!!!
Buen trabajo!!! Me gusto mucho lo que hiciste sin tener todas las herramientas ni mesa de trabajo. Cuando se quiere hacer algo se busca la manera. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much! Ghost loves hanging out in there! He would do his typical routine - spin around 800 times and then plop right down. The best was when one of his puppy friends came over; Ghost was laying down, and the other dog stuck his head right through the front window!
I know the plans for the build are paid for but how big approximately is this one? Wanted to make one that my two huskies can share. Is this big enough with plenty of room or should I make it bigger? Looking for a LxWxH if possible
The angle was kind of arbitrary! When I was designing it, I just picked something that I thought looked nice. I believe the front legs were about 3" taller (don't quote me on that, I can't find the sketch I had for this), but what was important was the back was slightly taller than Ghost!
I don't have a list of all the dimensions for the pieces, but the house itself is approximately 32x40 (I took them from his crate) and about 24" High in the front, slightly lower in the back
Hi there! Love this house! How did you determine the angles for the 4 vertical side pieces? You mentioned 2 were longer and 2 were shorter. I have a Ryobi Compound Saw as well and beveled my ends but now the roof placement doesn’t match the angles (if that makes sense). Any suggestions?
Just cut all of the angles at the same time at 5 to 10 degrees, then you'll just have to play with the length of your short sides until the line up to the back slope. Use a 2x4 clamped between the front to back to find your proper height and angle of slope!
Yeah... Definitely forgot that. I should have done more research into it, but that's part of why I made this channel: To get feedback and learn. Now I know what to do better next time! Thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it!!
Use pallets! Took me 3.5 pallets and 2 large plywood sheets and a bunch of long and short screws ....and a couple 2x4s.... but just need a good strong drill and that's it.... and a hand power saw.... and a hammer lol
Not sure if this was made to prove a point about low budget possibilities, if so, then it makes sense. However, I would the first mistake was definitely not putting underlayment beneath those shingles. May be just my preference, but either way it’s a great build. I love the simplicity of this project as a whole. Amazing! And Beautiful Husky 😍
Just finished mine with cedar. It's a lil bigger and no windows. Looks like your cuts were giving you issues. Small mistakes can lead to bad lines when done.
Thank you so much! The only pressure treated wood used in this project is the frame with contact to the ground. Everything else is NON treated wood (including the plywood floor)
Aww there is a Rottweiler that lives down the road from me!! Yeah he could definitely get out. This wasn't created to hold him in while outside. I made this so he can go in and hangout with us in the summer - he's not the biggest fan of the heat. However, you could install a hinge with a gate and lock on the front so you could make this into a crate!
Winter is definitely here, and Ghost absolutely loves it. I'm sure it would be possible. What I would do to insulate it would be add the outside of the house like I did, add insulation on the inside, and another piece of plywood for the inside wall. I don't know if that would be the right way to do it, but that's what I would have done
I need this for my hens. They are roam free chickens and they need something to sleep in at night. How do you do this if you don't have all the tools like a saw etc. They make it look easy but it;s not. I would just rather pay someone to build this for me......
How were you able to figure out which angle to cut the wood that holds up the roof? Is there a calculation or did you eyeball it. Since the back legs are shorter than the front legs.
I created it in Sketchup first - What I did was measured the high part of the angle, and the low end of the angle, connected it with a straight line, and cut it with the circular saw. Rinse and Repeat for the other legs.

Finallllllly a DIY dog house that doesn't require like a dozen tools. Thanks!
But requires over a grand in tools
No lie. Just make it taller than he did. Poor dog as no room to stand.

Looks good, maybe should have measured how tall ur dog was so u knew how tall to build the house, but it looks good.
This was designed around him, I tried to use the rule of thumb for dog crates - enough room for him to get up, move around, and lay down.
