  • This restored 1964 classic of "Whaling Days" features a whaling voyage aboard the New Bedford whaleship "VIOLA"in 1916 narrated by Whaling historian Reginald Hegarty of The New Bedford Whaling Museum. He actually was a whaler himself and sailed on the "VIOLA". Although the film is in fair condition, Haggerty provides a rare insight into life at sea aboard a whaler. The film was seen for the first time on TV in 1964 in this series of "Whaling Days" Dateline Boston by WHDH and The MA Dept of Education. Restored by the M.L.Baron Historic Archives and www.westislandweather.com/ Part 1 can be seen at this link: • Old Whaling Film aboar...

Whaling in the old days was a tough and dangerous job.
These days it is much easier to sustainably harvest the over-abundant minke whale with the Grenade Head Harpoon(invented in Norway by Sven Føyn). And it's totally humane now too which is good.
I have a lot of respect for the whaler's of days gone by. My family have been doing it for many generations and probably 1000 years.
I love to eat fresh whale beef. Save the Whale....for me ! Yummy ! :-)

Very rich history! To bad that we Americans can't go whaling anymore 😕
