I think green should blink every full second, yellow should blink every half second, and red should blink the fastest at 4 or more times a second. Maybe also add a subtle sound effect as they blink too for an audio cue.
I agree, both the speed and luminance of the flashing indicator increasing would be much more readable than a change in hue. What I would prefer personally is if the graphic flashed and glowed from the center outward expanding in size and increasing in speed the closer to the egg you are, rather than just the bottom edge glowing

I wasn’t expecting green to mean far away and red to mean close. I was surprised which coin icon filled in when you collected the first coin. Obviously once you collect the first coin, you would know what color correlates to distance. However, in my opinion, green = better is more intuitive.

Aesthetics-wise, I don't like those carrots drawn on the ground (at 01:02). It's doesn't look like anything other than spray painted graffiti on the grass... And the brain has difficulty processing those drawings as actual carrots (which should be 3d objects, if that is the case). I'd just replace those drawings with normal colored grass
I would prefer the ability to disable this, I liked how you would just stumble across blue coins in sunshine, it was a great part of the immersion to have to look for them intentionally to get them all.
You should add an in-game reason why Mario has this ability. Maybe professor E-Gadd gives it to him? Have him show up near the start of the level only when this star is selected (Like how Koopa the Quick does is BBB), and if you talk to him his text box will say he's giving you a device that can detect egg coins. Talking to him sets a flag that enables the radar.
I really prefer SM64DS's Silver Stars solution to a scavenger hunt over this one. Although I get why this approach is needed for a game which isnt duel screen. Maybe if the coins were also more prominent, and made a sound as you approached. I guess I just hate 'follow the radar' levels, although will tolerate them in short bursts. I think its a shame these will be replacing 100 coins, but also get why removing 100 coins is a fair call.
For me, I think this could be good as an "easy mode" feature. Searching every corner of a level for a secret with no feedback whether you're close or not usually isn't fun to me, but I also like finding secrets by myself. Maybe there could be a powerup you unlock which gives this radar? I just think it's a little lame having the game more or less just tell you where collectibles are. Maybe you could add an auditory "twinkle" sound to the egg coins so it integrates into the game more seamlessly while still providing the same radar feature.
you only unlock this once you've collected the other 6 stars in a level, meaning you have already found everything else in the level before you encounter the radar.
@KazeClips the smooth sharpness really punch up the visual. I had a double take because there is no way that could be a light map lol, compliment vertex light very well.

hmm this might be a bit distracting during non-eggcoin gameplay… maybe this could be something you unlock only later, so completionists can have a good time hunting eggcoins without impeding normal progress?

I totally agree with this, for some reason I imagine a crunchy sound like eating a cereal, maybe because Yoshi is sort of a dinosaur and it reminds me of dinosaur cookies, but some sound needs to be thought out
I think the weirdest bit is that this all looks and feels exactly as everyone imaged Super Mario 65/128 was going to be. It's pretty marvellous!
i would also recommend oscillating it faster when closer to the coin, so that there is a color-independent notifier for colorblind people

This is a MUCH better Ui design than before! I do think the coins should make a more satisfying sound when collected tho.
