The clay stuck to the cat turds might act like an insulator and not let the poop burn properly... But great video none the less, watched the first one too 👍
Clay will never burn. No matter how hot you get it it's just going to be vitrified. You made cat poop pottery, lol I was thinking a couple.of small potatoes and a scoop of peanut butter would make a good test to see what's actually left at the end.
No, it wasn't practical. It really cannot deal with the amount of urine even 1 person produces. Also, it does have an odor outside when it's burning. We took it out after using it for one trip. I would not recommend it at all.
Hi Cari Beth! wasn't expecting part 2 so soon, but glad. I was surprised to see anything other than ash! So I looked up "does clay cat litter burn". Nope. Now we know. But I am shocked to see that liner still in there. I see that the cat food is prescription. I know that pain $$$. I'm really surprised that so much was left after the cat food burn. Are there any adjustments to be done, or do you just have to let it regulate itself? I'm sure more experimenting will give you the answers. Maybe results with human waste will be slightly different (I know you can't show that). Since the ash doesn't have to be emptied every time, maybe regular use will give multiple "re-burns" and that will make the difference. Thanks for showing this alternative. Extra hugs and kisses for the cats for their participation and for being good sports. See you next video!
Yes, expensive prescription catfood that they turn their noses up at! So typical of kitties, lol. I've cut back mostly on the prescription food & now mostly give them very good premium catfood. It is pretty much the same price. But it really does help keep them healthy compared to the catfoods with all the fillers. It looks like there are 2 separate gauges to adjust. I'm going to see if they make a difference.
Awesome! Time for the solar panels and electric van combo to go with it and you're almost off the grid but at least out of the motels any where you go as far as you go! (solar shower chamber still needed in Electrician's van though) Bring along a Biogas2 tent to make your own propane as you go and your camping needs are taken care of! Almost! need that water filtering device too.... wonder who to buy that one from...
After a couple of Mexican Burritos, that thing would need to burn for a week after I got up. There is no way that piece of junk with incinerate a man-sized dump.
This version on the video is the smallest. Eco John, the parent company, sells incinerating toilets in bigger sizes! That way you can have your cake ( or man sized burrito), eat it, and incinerate it too. 😉
14:05 You must not or cannot compare cat food/leftover food with feces. The feces have already undergone a digestion or decomposition process, but food remains have not. This means that the composition and structure of the solids is completely different during the combustion process.
I was hoping the poop would be a complete ash. I did read more adjustments are needed. But no adjustments should be required and it should burn everything to a crisp ash. That's just me having high expectations. Thank you for the videos
I inadvertently adjusted it down before my first test which is why the ash was not smaller. Also there was alot of clay litter in it & that does not burn well. The adjustments are needed because there are environmental factors that are different depending on where you are located, elevation, humidity, etc. Thanks for watching & commenting!
Your trying to burn fullers earth I think that is what cat litter is made from and therefore its not flammable and in fact it would insulated the faeces from the heat of the burner. Very good demo though and perfect for people who live off grid but can get gas and power and those who dont want to dig up huge tranches of land to install a loo. For me persoanally my pool is 50 metres from the house and I would consider installing one there as there is a changing room but no sewerage access. Excellent toilet, a little pricey I feel but it does solve a lot of problems, one thing is they need to look at how the front container cover is fixed, needs to be easy to remove. Butterfly nut or a lock similar to inside. I also think as that chamber becomes more full it will burn a lot better. Using raw or processed food as a replacement for faeces will not give the same result as the body has processed the food and its a totally different substance, sadly the only way to try is present the loo with the right poop 😄 Great demos thanks for going the extra mile.......
I had to laugh at the cat food "waste." I have had furballs all my life and I totally understand your comments. I have the same thing also with the food that falls out of favor. I draw the line at opening 4 cans now. If I can't find anything they want , they just get cream until they get hungry enough to eat. I even started baking free range chicken for them. I guess they could be holding out for the cream, it is whipping cream. I am considering a small home on the family property and I don't want to deal with handling Black waste. This really looks promising. Thanks for the demonstration, and humor.
Sustainably Yours cat litter, recommended by Jackson Galaxy, is made of corn and cassava. It might be a useful option to avoid clay litter not burning..
I have a Separette which is a great solution, except handling disposal is challenging at the moment. I need to either a) find an incinerator or build a stand-alone solution where I can place a composable bag of waste and turn it to ash.
Mine does not because I had them install a catalytic converter on it. It cost $50 extra for it. If one does not opt for the catalytic converter, you can spray scent in the bowl before burning which would help with any odors. There is a button to press that will supply scented water or a cleaning agent. If you follow the directions and vent it to the roof properly, you will likely find few if any unpleasant odors. Pro-tip: Add a splash of bbq flavoring to the bowl & flush. It will smell like a cookout!
Appreciate the videos on poo incineration! I have done it @camp in the fire a few ties but never much liked the "aroma". Being a full (over)sized carnivorous human male I am skeptical it would do the job on my contributions? Anyway, appreciate the videos! Still on the bucket and bags method for the foreseeable future. Be safe and enjoy life!
Tom, Thanks for commenting! As far as an individual's contribution size, the Tiny John can handle alot. If one has alot at one time, they can flush again and have 2 burn cycles instead of 1.
Have you had any instances where it didn’t continue through the burn cycle? I’m trying to use it and it ignites once and then stops after about a minute
Mine has been a total bummer. It took FOREVER to arrive. Several parts didn't come. My van guys had to talk with them a LOT to get it working (kinda) and it still doesn't work. 7 months and almost $4000 later I still don't have a working potty.
Do NOT buy this pos toilet. You’re better off with only a trowel because that’s what you’ll be using when this piece of 💩 breaks. Worked a total of one time! One!! Without maintaining. And 1 cycle is never enough even for #1
How have you found its ability to burn #2 deposits since you posted this video? I found the cat food demonstration a little concerning considering that the average bowl movement is 14 to 17 oz (the 3 cans of cat food are at the upper end of that average).
@@jimbertrand2499 Yes. If I had gone the 110V route, it would have been possible to run it on solar. I may consider changing over so that I will not need to keep buying the propane. The initial costs are spendy, no doubt about it. I think it is worth it if one has thd means to spend the $$.
Very interesting indeed... I've just never seen an RV poo incinerator before! Good weather coming for this weekend; hope you make good progress on your conversion Cari!
My waste is usually banana looking and solid. Not cat food liquid unless I ate something my tummy didn't agree with. My question is what about the smell?
It’s the “Well, howdy doody!” for me.😂😂 God bless you.✊🏾💙
"If you kerplop a good amount you might need to run another cycle" lol thank you for this testing

Thanks for making these videos! Very informative!
but you poo only or can do both poo and pee?
I wonder if this can be used with a bidet attachment....if you have to use a liner, it would be prudent to save on toilet paper in exchange, no?
I wonder that too. I love my bidet!

Vermiculite is typically not combustible, that's its virtue. Better off to use a paper based litter with an incinerator WC.
Exactly! The clumping kitty litter was just to demonstrate.

Cari: How has this worked out? Would you recommend that I purchase one?
What happened to the good old days when it was just a simple flush knob?
So, if it is in the middle of a burn cycle and someone needs to use it. can you stop it, use, then start over?
Yes.
Thanks for the video. I see you were using a 12V battery for the test. I'm wondering if it can be used in a tiny home that hooked up to regular 110v.
Yes. Tiny John and other incinerating toilet manufacturers offer an AC version too.
How well is the propane consumption? The websight for one em says 100-150 uses per 5g tank. Is it using the propane at about that rate seemingly?
I am going to put a gauge on my tank and see what the actual use is. You are correct about the numbers on their website.
I love your video and i hope you make more.
Thanxabunch...very informative.
Be sure to check this other vid about Tiny John ua-cam.com/video/JxYr-vwCkMc/v-deo.html
If there is still paper in the burn chamber then it’s doing a crappy job. Pun intended.

Can you put toilet paper used for cleaning ones bottom in the toilet?
Hi Cari - can you update us on your Tiny John? I've heard very mixed reviews. Also - are you venting out the side of your trailer?
Those liners need to be bigger in case of explosive diarrhea.
Odd how none of the alternative toilet demos even mention explosive diarrhea.

The Cinderella toilet seems to be stronger and burns the big loads,

How much battery and propane does it use?
How do you like the Tiny John so far? I'm looking to buy one. Thanks.

The Worlds Greatest Kitty Litter is made of 100% corn. This might break down completely.

Clay protects from burning
🌼 Looks like you have yourself a potty!!! 😁
Yes! I am very glad it is working out.
I will install it in the RV hopefully by July. It all depends on the pace of the complete remodel.
If only my bowel movements weren't so dang explosive and flammable.....
The clay is what is messing with your results. As an example clay pottery gets fired in a kiln at about 2,400 F.
Agreed. I realized this after the test.
