    Ladies and Gents, one of the best, if not THE best guitarist around today. Not just in shred, but arrangement and musicality. Pete knows where things 'go'! Reminds me a lot of Andy Timmons in tone, playing, and all around attitude. Great job, Pete! Now, I need a Skype lesson so I can believe someday I'll be worthy of playing the Thornbucker pickup I just bought! lol. Cheers!

      +Pete Thorn Pete, could you tell me if you use the clean channel and boost with pedals through this amp when you play live or do you use the dirt channel as well for certain things? I'm seriously considering this amp. I play to around 500+ twice a week and want something with some serious firepower and lately I'm really getting into dirt channels on tube amps

      Hi Jason, I use all 3 channels and I do use overdrives through channel 1 for some alternate drive sounds.

    That has a lot of features that you don't often see all in one amp. What's even more cool than usual is that Pete played/explained them all without causing confusion. Love the Standby/Standback switch.

    I was lucky enough to find a used PT100 in my local music store as well bought the matching cab. Got a great deal but even at full price this amp is worth every penny. I have had many different amps over the years but this is by far the best amp I have ever played through. It is not lacking in any aspect. Sounds great loud or even quiet. Great classic sounds as well as modern. You will never need another amp. Absolutely love it. Cheers Pete!

    I just want to say how competely stoked I am to own this amp. I've owned and sold lots of boutique amps including the CAA PT-100. I will never let this one go. It's my perfect amp. American clean/British gain - mission accomplished. Thank you, Pete and John !!!

    Hey Pete, I keep coming back to this video because I absolutely love this amp! You will never need another overdrive pedal, as well it's not struggle to play through like some amps. Not a bad tone to be found. I recently purchased a 70's 4x12 with Blackbacks in it and it really does the Marshall thing perfect. The Suhr 2x12 sounds great as well. Worth every penny. Watched a bunch of your Rock Show videos where you were using 2 or 3 of these live and did every style you needed perfect, and looked very cool which is important haha. Just curious if you were running that rig in stereo through 2 amps? Cheers

    Great tones for the touring musician who can't afford to sniff a Dumble. Definitely love the fact that you can get those sweet fender tones. I'm buying a new house so I can't afford one at the moment. But it sounds well worth selling some amps in my collection. Great amp if it only had the first channel and the boost. It's kind of like a great range of fender tones - deluxe through blackface, and soldano and high gain tones combined.

    I own the version before this one and I always had a hard time getting channel 1 bright enough. The PT100SE sounds like it has a better clean channel which is brighter and you can get a better mild distortion. I also notice that the tone on ch 2 and 3 is better and with the new mosfet drive it even adds more tonal possibilities. The fx loop on my PT100 drives some of my rack fx too hard when I crank it to 4 or 6 so it looks like that the new SE it was upgraded. What sucks is that I have to sell my old one(which I bought 1 year ago) to buy the new one. Although I like the tones I'm getting from my old PT100 but I prefer how it sounds when using pedals in front of it. With the SE having the mosfet boost is a welcome addition. I also read somewhere that the OT was changed and the tone is more"plexi" like than the old one. Is going to be tough selling my old one for a decent price after the release of the SE so I can replace it with the new one. Bummer!

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn  9 років тому +1

      Andy K Really it's not :) It's just an alternate tone- I find I use the boost more on CH2 than anywhere- so I can have 2 levels of 'crunch"

    Hey Pete, insane playing as always!!
    How well does the G System work with this head using the 4CM?
    I've been currently using a JVM 205h head through a 4x12 cab with 2 g12t75 and 2 V30 and I've been struggling with the thin sounding tone I'm getting lately and looking for something in the plexi category with the ability for higher gain. I play in a cover band so I need something that is a set it and forget it with channel switching via G system and can play anything from clean to higher gain and everything in between. How do you think this amp would do in my scenario?

    Classey presentation Pete and very happy to see you have an amp to call you own.. LOL or is that a 'your own to call your amp'!? I'm blessed with a similar style/functioning amp made in Australia. It's important to support local craftsmen and it sounds like John Suhr is a craftsman indeed. Great sounds, nailed that gnarly pushed-clean sound...

    Hi Pete !
    Let me ask a question.
    What is the difference between this version and previous CAA?
    You probably already must be tired of answering that question (Forgive me the annoyance), however I have not seen anything about the differences between the amplifiers.

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn  9 років тому +4

      marcelojulio Hi! It's a bit more "vintage plexi" voiced but with more gain, the old amp was a bit more modern sounding maybe? We changed the voicing of ch1 and 2, used a different output transformer... also made the eq real tuneable and the amp really responds and works great with many different speaker cabs. I felt the older one worked best with Greenbacks but V30's could be a little piercing- now you can really dial it in to whatever you've got. The fx loop is John's latest design, and the boost is all new (mosfet now and sounds totally different and can be used on all 3 channels. The amp is now midi with a great included footswitch. I think that covers it!

  • @closertotheheart
    @closertotheheart 8 років тому

    Both of the 2x12 cabs you mentioned (Dividedby13 and Suhr) go well with a 100w amp? I've been thinking about getting a Super Lead style head (with master volume) and some sort of 2x12 cab, but I'm having a hard time researching a cab that will sound good and not blow up from the wattage.

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn  7 років тому

      You would be safe with some Celestion speakers that are rated at say, 65 to 75 watts each. A healthy Super Lead type amp can put out 100 watts plus.... so make sure you have at least 120 watts of power handling...

      A forum post by Pete Thorn: Like the differences between the one Alex has (silver panel) and the new standard model? They are the same, sonically and features-wise. New midnight blue panels and the black switch/knob look are the only changes. American cleans, British hot rod gain, midi, MOSFET boost, etc. All the same! Tone to the bone

    Man, some people are just lucky huh? Don't get me wrong, he's a good player, great even, but seriously, great guitar players are a dime a dozen, what was it? Honest question, same with that Phil X guy, just what the hell is so special about them that they get these gigs? Please, don't even start with "you suck, huhu u hu" comments, I'm not talking about myself, but the tons of great guitar players I know who never had this kind of opportunity... Though I have to say I culd hang very nicely with the Phil X guy...

      Hi Marvio- honestly, getting gigs is not JUST about playing. You're correct, there's a LOT of great players in the world. off the top of my head, etting gigs is about playing but also about being able to work well with others, being a self starter, being a generally likeable person with good people skills...
      And it's about showing up, I.E. Moving to and living in a music town/centre like LA or Nashville and making friends and connections so you eventually get the calls to go and audition for gigs. That's my honest answer. I wish you the best of luck with your music and career!

      It's all good man! Thanks for your kind response, like I said, I wasn't even thinking about myself, my boat sailed long ago, plus I was never that good anyway. But like I said I know at the very least a handful of players, not only guitar players, that seem to be stuck in second gear somehow, a couple of these guys are composers too, and I've heard more than a few pieces by them that's really one of the best music I ever heard, but yet...
      Maybe it's location, like you said, two who come to mind are in Boston, another couple in Brazil, and there's a buddy of mine in Australia, heck, my father in law who lives with me could out arrange most music that's in the top 10 these days, monster jazz dude...
      All the best to you man!
