Was watching this and had a thought. Maybe leaving that oil seal out is some sort of a hack. Leave it out and it keeps the top keyed pin part lubricated and stops it wearing out? Just a thought.
Jax, that would not be advisable to leave the oil seal out. Almost every manufacturer uses an oil seal in the speedo gear. It’s there to keep oil from escaping the transfer case. Not having the oil seal was what was causing the leak. Thanks for your comment and for watching. Also do you own an 80?
Yeah I have a 1997 40th anniversary edition here in Australia. The reason I thought that about the seal is that I know some guys run their rear axles with no oil seal and let the diff oil lubricate the wheel bearings.
