To our Japanese ears, katakana versions of western words sound nicer, fancier, or more fashionable than the corresponding Japanese words. I guess this is probably why the cake baker named his carrot-flavored cake "carrot cake" (キャロットケーキ) instead of "ninjin cake" (にんじんけーき)
Jakarta and jagaimo are pretty similiar and easy to remember.. but as an indonesian i just want to say that the danish called jakarta as batavia at that time
