This is actually their "heaviest" song, and it is so much "worse" with the full context.
The song is a tribute to Courtney's grandmother, which died last summer and Courtney was unable to attend her funeral due to the locked borders. Her grandmother wished for her to sing on her funeral, so this song is sort of a way to cope with her grief. The title of the song is a tribute to the grandmother of the video producer of this song, and I'll paste a comment of his father that's under the official video. I'd like to see you check out Blessed Be, Rule of Nines and Holy Roller (their heaviest one) too. Preferably the official videos because they're really good (especially for Holy Roller), but they also have one take vocal performances of those songs which are worth watching too, in case you want to do some double features.
    Scott Hryciuk:
"Constance is my mom. Today - December 4th is her birthday - she is 88. She is the nurse in the photo. She is in a long term care home and I have not seen her since early March of this year due to COVID-19. Unfortunately the press release is incorrect. Courtney’s grandmother died in 2020 and she wrote the beautiful lyrics to honor her grandmother. Dylan’s grandmother is still living and has been suffering from dementia for several years. Dylan created the video imagery to honor his grandmother and her struggles at this time in her life.
Mom goes by Connie to those that know her. Today her proper name of Constance is more meaningful. Dylan from Versa Films is my son. I am thankful to Courtney and Spiritbox for having the courage to tackle a subject like this. Courtney: I am sorry for the loss of your grandmother. I am touched by the comments from everyone that has been through this. As the son, I know how it affects me - everyday seeing your mother not remember you. Counting the times she remembers your name. As parents we don't always see or realize the impact these circumstance and this disease has on the grandchildren. Dylan, Courtney and all the comments show that the pain runs deep within the families. For me it is tough to watch this video. It is harder to live with or to have lived with this in real life. Words cannot begin to describe. Thank you to everyone for their comments as hard as they were to publicly display. It's amazing Dylan. It's amazing Courtney. It's amazing Spiritbox. Constance is proud. I am proud."

that breakdown at the end being so chaotic and noisy with the layered screams and the dissonant chords felt like I was listening to her mind slide into confusion and then trudge down in speed til it grinds to a halt. It hit me so hard as this song came out a week before my grandmother passed from dementia. The only record that better addresses it is Everywhere At The End of Time. Its more of an art piece than a record as its 6.5 hours of soundscapes meant to reproduce the mind of an elderly person going through the 6 stages of dementia while remembering the music of their youth. Even if you cut it down to 3 hours the back half of that ....experience....had me crying at 3am as it was the first time I had ever really been able to directly empathize with what my grandmother had suffered through.

Most Spiritbox songs are heavy. This one is “heavy.”
If you wanna know more about the song, the video, the band, the members, or where they all came from musically, I’d be happy to answer anything. I’ve been friends with Mike (guitarist) for 13 or 14 years, and friends with Courtney and Bill for over a decade.

Im envious. I wish I could tell Courtney what a huge impact she and the band have had on my life.
I have BPD. This song hits me differently...when I have episodes, its...dark. I forget what is real. I've felt like an alien my whole life, never fitting in anywhere, and neverending emotional rawness.
Courtney popped into my ears a couple months ago with Rule of Nines. In this I found a lifeline.
Im in therapy and slowly progressing, but I wish I could tell the band what a massively positive impact they have all had in my life.

This song tied in with the video kills me. I lost my grandmother to breast cancer a little over a year ago, and towards the end she barely recognized anyone. It sucked that she hardly remembered me, and I lived with her for 10 years of my life. This song, and video makes me cry thinking about it every time I hear it, and watch it.

Your clear sense of humanity has earned you a new subscriber. I went though a situation like this with my pawpaw. He had dementia and a couple months after diagnosis, he had a stroke and went blind. From then on, the dementia run wild and he was alway in his own little world. Back on the farm when he was just a child spending time with his dad (his dad passed away when he was 9) so i definitely found solace in the idea that he finally saw his dad again after all these years. he was 76 years old.

This is music therapy at its finest. I've had 2 grandparents, and 2 great-grandparents that were affected by this. The very first time I saw this video, I closed UA-cam and the internet after it was done and sat the rest of the night in silence. It was so powerful. I've since then watched dozens of reactors experience this as well. You certainly felt the emotion of this song. Music should invoke that reaction, and I think it's part of the artistry of this song. Well done.
I also concur with many of the other comments. Perrenial or Blessed Be would be a great next reaction to Spiritbox. Get some of this softness, but a touch and introduction of their aggressive side.

I watched my great grand father go through this at the age of 16. I just watched and was like "this crazy old man". I watched my grandfather go through this 2 years ago. I watched again and was like "Oh man this is real! Am I going to end up this way????" My father is starting to show signs of this. Here I am at 41. None of the males in our family have made it past 85 due to this. I have 44 years left "ish" to try to figure out how to combat this. SpiritBox - Constance and Cory Taylor's - Snuff are me. I cry for both and search endlessly to resolve both. May your days be bright and your nights be even brighter.

Courtney, Mike, and Bill are good friends of mine and I had to honor of getting to see them live in concert in Prague on March 4, 2020...that was right as COVID hit Europe and I think it ended up being the next to late show on their tour, before they had to cancel. I got to hang with them before, during, and after the show and it was an amazing night I'll never forget (last LIVE music pre-COVID pandemic...a historical moment)! I was taking a video of them when they first came out on stage to do "Rule of Nines"....Courtney saw me and actually ran over to shake my hand (I got a big hug at the merch table after their set was up though- happy Greg!!)- the video was on my crappy phone at the time, so forgive the audio quality, but you can see where she came over to thank me for coming all the way from Dallas, Texas to see them 5,338 mi/8,591 km. At about the :25 mark is where she sees me and comes over- I was so happy and honored!! ua-cam.com/video/cAiifZdQuRM/v-deo.html
I gave Sabina a good "gateway map of songs" for more Spiritbox, to break her and her channel fans in easily. Courtney has masterful vocal fry & beautiful cleans, Mike's guitar work and Bill's bass work is top notch. They are still working on a steady drummer, but I think that is already in the works, I believe. They are such a talented band and its sad that COVID had to spoil an amazing opportunity for them to get more exposure. I love Courtney, Mike, and Bill dearly and I can't wait to be able to see them live again when the pandemic settles and borders open again.

Awesome reaction. Thank you. I would suggest 'ramping up' on spiritbox (as I do not know your musical tastes). Constance is their soft side, then Perennial and Trust Fall sort of hang in their 'mid range' for me, then things like Beauty of Suffering and Holy Roller go hard to the paint. All their songs are incredible. Blessed Be and Rule of Nines are incredible and 'mid to heavy'. Please continue on the journey with SB!

    You can never go wrong
    with a Spiritbox song.
They are making very heavy music, and despite this song is the softest and only song, where Courtney does not use growling vocals additionally, it still hits hard in the chest, because this generally is, what this band does. Extraordinary musicians, great arrangements, great songwriting, original feeling (horror related, more or less, with intelligent lyrics). Exceptional band, very original in the concept. If you like to see, what they really are capable of, musically, watch "The Mara Effect live at Silversound Studios", a song trilogy that is meant to be heard sequentially, in a one-take band video, these are the first 3 songs of the first EP they ever made, they absolutely killed it from the start. The only video that really captures the whole excellence and bandwidth of them. 16 minutes of your life well spent. It is not reacted to as much as other videos are, but this is only because of the length. I always try to stop after part I, but not a single time it worked, I am captured to the end. So well made.

Another beautiful song about Alzheimer's that has a heartbreaking video is 'Doing the Right Thing' by Daughter. But 'Blessed Be' by Spiritbox would also be great song to react to if you don't feel like starting a whole 'crying while listening to music' series!

Hello Sabina! Evocative Video ,Emotional Response! Thank You. This song though is not truly indicative of Courtneys dual vocal style as most of their songs have Growls/Harsh singing simular to Tatiana from Jinjer. There is a track called 'Rule Of Nine' that displays this well.Thank You Sabina.

They make journeys and great music. I would recommend The Mara Effect part 1, 2, 3 live at Silversound.

Great song - I love Spritbox!! And awesome and true reaction.
In case strong emotional music is catching you and you like to get deeply touched try the fabulous Spanish singer Diana Navarro - El Perdon! (Official video!)
She put everything on another level for emotional songs for me. And it’s said she has two oxygen tanks as she can easily hold notes above 25s.

I think I could have made it though the song without crying if it wasn't for you starting. Then I had no chance. I was a very powerful video, but maybe too powerful. To me it drowned out the music to the point where I didn't really notice it. That's always the danger of memorable music videos. I remember watching Susanne Sundfør - When the Lord and the images was so overwhelming that I have no recollection of the music and I never want to watch it again.

Do you know about THE FIRST TAKE channel? I highly recommend you to check them out. The channel concept is that every invited singer is given one chance to do a live recording. Success or not depends on them. Unedited raw voice and only the first take counts.
    I suggest:
・Lisa - Homura (from a movie that has grossed $384.5 million and still counting)
    ・The Gospellers - Hitori (ゴスペラーズ - ひとり)
    ・Wacci - Tarinai (足りない)
    ・Little Glee Monster - ECHO
or try one of the 3 most-watched videos (make sure to turn on the subtitles)🔥

Bravo one of the best of spiritbox. Constance is Courtney LaPlante grandmother wich died and she couldn't go cause the pandemic. Her grandma always wanted her to sing without the grouls ans screans which she did in this one to honor her. Courtney was crying in this video which were true tears. Also the director her grandma hava alzheimer but she's alive.
You should react now to the video bless be

sorry, have to correct you... constance is dylan's (the director & owner of versa films) grandmother.! this song was released on her 88th birthday back in december. she lives in home care and suffers alzheimer's disease and hasn't seen dylan or the rest of her family since march last year due to covid restrictions. courtney's grandmother past away last summer and she wasn't able to attend the funeral also due to covid restrictions - but her grandmother is not constance. so, the video refers to dylan's grandmother (the real constance is shown on the b/w picture in the video) and is courtney's way to say goodbye to her grandmother.

    Hello Sabina!
The song "Constance", triggers many different feelings in me. Sadness, anger but also complete discomfort. The discomfort comes not from the theme of the song, but from the arrangement. The sound texture makes the song very uncomfortable and frightened. I can imagine that people suffering from Alzeihmer's disease or dementia feel the same way as the song conveys.
May I ask you for a reaction to the following song?
I am a big fan of the band Anathema. The lyrics and the singing always give me goose bumps. The singer's vibrato is so great and she really has a voice to fall in love with. Of course, the singers are great too :) I'm definitely looking forward to a reaction!
