  • Located in southern Fayette County is Waveland State Historic Site. A Greek Revival mansion built in the 19th century by the Bryan Family. Formerly known as the Bryan Estate, Waveland got its name from the hemp and tobacco crops that would wave in the wind, crops that made the Bryan family rich. Today, it stands as a state landmark, hosting tours, teas, and even vintage baseball teams, but what you won’t see on the surface is the wealth of stories held within the old mansion’s walls.

Hey, that’s Doug Flynn! I know that voice anywhere. My late father Stan Dyer was his Sunday School Teacher when Doug was a teenager. The Flynn’s were our neighbor on McKenna Ct from 1971 to 1999. he played for the reds, Mets when I was just a little kid. His mom let me touch his golden glove trophy when I was a kid. Doug is a wonderful person, and we still have the Christmas Stockings that his mother knitted for me and my siblings nearly 50 year ago.
