Dose didn't win this battle. He's got a set of dope rhymes, but they don't hit - URL is all about punches, metaphor, schemes, wordplay - that hit. And battling is a psychological game, not just about bars. He can spit, but he's getting bullied by math on that stage and he's not able to return that aggression verbally or even on a style vs style basis. Aside from the fact that he's rhyming like he's in a recording booth.
Outside of this battle league, especially up north, battlers spend a lot of time with filler and aping multi-syllable styles.. they match every syllable, but there's no real conversation - it's missing the real 'raps'.. there's just a lot of rhyming. That doesn't mean the classic NY battle style is ABC-simple, it's a core form of the battle rap style - it's formidable, its set ups, its punches, its schemes, its wordplay, it's matched 8s and 16s.. and it's straight to the point. It's not so forced. MCs take their time to spit. I like complex styles, but I hate when rappers force their syllables and stretch their bullshit punches, to the point where they have to shout it for punctuation. I think most KOTD rappers are really biting Em's style, and that shit is hella old. Dizazter sounds like a straight knock-off of that. He can obviously spit.. it's just his free style is actually kinda rigid. He doesn't take time to spit his shit, he's gotta dump all his bars for impact because mostly people are just caught up in his performance. These styles are not classic to hip-hop, it's *one* person's style - Em's. For Diz, it works well.. but he's an exception.
The NY bar formats have a lot of intricacy if you're listening and the MC is dope. Math flips clean lines with punches that get the crowd laughing. Even if you don't like jokes, the truth is that he's spitting real raps - that's why all those cats are in there cracking up. He's not spitting extended metaphors and quack punches. If you're up on your hip-hop, you'll notice that their are several strains of classic hip-hop lyricism embedded in many of the older URL cats styles - you can pick out kool g rap, rakim, bdk, among others. If they all sound the same to you.. it might be because you haven't listened to enough old school NY flows. Newer NY cats from the mid-90s on spit a waaay more intricate style (at least the shit that wasn't commercial), and I felt like Dose was closer to that shit than anything.. but those styles are raw and extremely intricate, in vocabulary and metaphor. That era makes most of what you'd hear in other battle leagues and URL seem *super* basic. If that's what he was going for, he would have had to go harder with the metaphors and schemes. Later styles from the BIG/NAS/Jay/Rae+ era recaptured the simplicity of classic NY lyricism, still intricate but without the need for "complex" sounding words. If that even makes sense. I'm leaving out the west coast styles because they're not only more similar to the South, and both combined have classic styles, but the left coast style has been watered down with explicit enunciations and bugged out metaphors.. grind time and so on.
I guess my point is that rhyme styles are a regional thing - when you come to NY you need to adapt to the structure their, unless you have a style that is really dope and just stands on its own. Dose's style didn't quite do that. Just my 2 cents.

Dose's bars, delivery and lyrics move me. I think he is just FANTASTIC. Its nothing against Math its just Dose is really really fantastic and I'd love to see him battle more. Talent like that should not go to waste. The world needs to see that type of talent more.

I finally came back to this and that initial awkwardness is gone. Dose 3 - 0. No debating first round for me. That living expense line and the way it was delivered was fucking great. Second round is more debatable but Dose edges it for me. Third round, Math lost it himself. He bored me to tears and a good percentage of it wasn't even towards Dose.
