The long tone method has really helped my tone and my range so much! Thank you!
Excellent advice from one heck of a trumpet player and class act. Top man.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I have been doing long tones off and on and now realize how important they are and how they can help.
Finally. I've been stuck at this point were I couldn't get my range or tone any better.its like I hit a wall !
man, he's got that G on automatic, nice.
So useful, thanks so much for this.
Nice suit, bringing class to the lesson.
Excellent presentation. Beautifully filmed. Nice suit. To say nothing of the persuasive arguments for working these exercises. A+++
Love the analogy of the balloon! I'm totally stealing that! Fwiw - This elementary band teacher DOES teach her kids to do long tones! Thanks for the video! Sharing with my students!
This has been incredibly helpful, thanks!
Thank you so much. I recently just got braces and you pointed out some exercises that I forgot about using.
This helped me so much! Thank you so so so much 😭💖

More Vids Plz!
Great advice! The exercise he played from the Goldman book is written an octave higher.
thank you for making this video.
This video was really helpful thanks
Thank you for this video.
THANK You for your explanation 🙏🙏
instructionally great; thank you Mr. Printup.
I do a similar excersise for long tones, but I go from c up to b flat chromatically, rather than down. It's really working for me!
Not at all easy to sustain successive 40-second long tones moving up the staff.
We did that Goldman exercise an octave higher in drum corps horn line rehearsals.
That’s smart. Then play it up an octave above that. Finally down to the low octave Marcus plays it at.
very helpful thank you
Marcus Printup is the MAN!!!!!!!!!
Subscribed because of Marcus💪
Thank you so much as a trumpet player trying to widen its range this really helps
These tutorials by Marcus and Kenny R. are excellent, however, remember their advice is for players who are used to strenuous practice routines! I tried the long notes on trombone, up and down chromatically from a middle F, about an octave both ways, and that shot my lips for the rest of the day. Perhaps players getting used to this might want to shorten the duration of the higher notes until they build up endurance. Thank you for posting!
Beautiful
Long tones
I met this cat! Cool guy! Great musician.
lol marcus is staring into my soul. Love his playing.
i now nothing about the instrument, but i can tell he knows what he talking about
I believe Mr. Printup used to play a Lawler horn but believe he has a different axe these days. Check his website and I am sure he talks about his horn.
Long tones are the backbone to brass playing.
Using a tuner really helps
whenever I do the first clarke studies, my tone sounds so raspy and not clear.
play it more slow and quiet
Does anyone know the notes of the goldman tounging excercise he played????
Doesn’t have to be an exact copy of the Goldman notes. Just riff on something close to what he did. Transpose. And keep the tongue work clean clear and fast.
damn!
Hey guys, anybody knows at which point of the practice routine should whisper tones be played? Right after the long tones?
at the very end of your practice.. it will exhaust your chops.
Will Magid thanks man ;)
I stuggle understanding names in english. Anyone catched the name of those books and could help me writing it down? Thanks!
The important one is:
Technical Studies for the Cornet
by Herbert L. Clarke (published by Carl Fischer)
Does anyone know what mouthpiece uses?
What make of horn is that?
I believe he is playing a stomvi but I'm not sure
omg asthma buddies!!
what if you only do the whisper tone
No way he making that high c look easy
Nice one sir
I wish to do better than you someday
Propa!…
poor neighbours.
Use a mute!
I don't want to sound disrespectful but why does his trumpet look like a cheap one?
NuncFluens Cos it doesn’t have lacquer on it
Feel free to buy a shiny Chinese ISO! They come with gloves! ;)
