I think Lloyd belongs in the Hall of Fame. When you look at that era in Pittsburgh, one that had Rod Woodson, and Kevin Greene who are both in the Hall of Fame, and one that also had Levon Kirkland and Carnell Lake among others, Lloyd was the guy that they all rallied behind. He once said, "The guy across from me has to do one thing, he needs to raise his level of play or he's going to get his ass kicked all day." He was Joey Porter Sr but better. Even as a Raven fan, Lloyd still is one of my favorite players of all time just because of the energy and excitement he brought every time he took the field. They don't get the moniker known as Blitzburg without Greg Lloyd.
I agree 100%. If not for those knee injuries and that nasty staph infection he would be on the Mt Rushmore on Steelers defensive players. My favorite player when I was a kid. Absolutely terrifying.
Wow....those comments Cary a lot of weight, from a Raven fan. I'm due hard Steelers & feel the same about Ray Lewis. Nothing but respect when he stepped on the field. The greats can make those around them play better....but these guys made their teammates AND opponents up their games. 21 players who know they have to dig a little deeper cuz of that 22nd dude. That's respect.
How lucky we were to watch Lloyd play nasty D for the Steelers. He made splash play after splash play, which changed the outcome of so many games. LeBeau, Lloyd, Greene, Kirkland, Brown, Woodson, Lake... take me back to the Cowher era. P.S. Bring back the block jersey numbers.
I remember that! He said "We're not just going to the Superbpwl... we're gonna win the F***'n thing." Would've been prophetic except for Neil O'donnel picks to a wide-open Larry Brown. Not once... but twice with both resulting in Dallas TDs.
@SteelCurtain_90 Larry Brown later made a cameo appearance on the show Married With Children and Al Bundy commented that "everybody knows that bum O'Donnell threw it right to you"
It's impossible for me to pick my single favorite all-time Steeler. He's in the argument. I remember once in pre-game commemts Paul McGuire was talking about him , and his famous work out tee-shirt , and how ripped he was. He said you could throw a dart at his chest, and it wouldn't stick. He went on to add," give him a tube sock and a que ball , and he could take on Bosnia" dude was a BEAST . Also, a black belt in Taekwondo!! Scary
I met Greg and got a shirt from him . He was up there with all the steelers greats because he was a natural embodiment of the black and gold tradition. As a linebacker on fire in every game I'm so sorry he didn't win the big one one or 2 in his amazing career. One cool dude off the field and to me 95 should be a retired number besides being in the ring of honor .
This might be a little biased because I am a Steelers fan Greg Lloyd should definitely be in the Hall of Fame he was so good and feared him and Kevin Greene were part of the best defense of the Steelers besides obviously the 70s defense man I miss Greg Lloyd he was a monster out there
Some of the Steelers came to my no name college near Pittsburgh for a charity basketball game against Police/Fire around ‘94. Most guys played pretty casual but Lloyd played the game like it was the Super Bowl. He really stood out amongst all of the players. That’s when he became my favorite Steeler of all time, and I’m a Patriots fan.
The knee and modest stats..he wasn't the prototype rush olb....he covered as much as rushed..so sacks and tackles were average..but he to this day is my favorite Steelers olb..intimidating and so impactful
Played At Ft Valley State College " The Blue Death Defense " Under Head Coach Doug Porter & Defensive Coach Alfonso Varner , That Defense Was Good In The SIAC Conference Because Of Greg Lloyd
It’s a shame he’s not in the hall of fame One hell of a pass rusher in the NFL at the OLb position 5x pro bowler and 3x all pro player If not for injuries in 87,88 & 96 He’d be a hall of famer Underrated legend
He has always been my favorite. I'll never forget when he hit Marino so hard, old Danny boy could only grab his jersey while catching his breath from his back.
The info at the start of this video is incorrect. Lloyd was born in Miami but only lived there for a few years (like 2 or 3). He moved to Fort Valley, GA and ultimately attended Peach County High School all 4 years where his #52 jersey is retired. He then went on to play at the local University, Fort Valley State University, where his #47 jersey is also retired. He considers Fort Valley his home town and would return there in the off season and bring friends from the NFL, like Derrick Thomas.
He is my favorite all time Steeler. No one feared the Steelers in the 80's. The doninating attitude was brought back in the 90's and it was spearheaded by Greg Lloyd.
In this video he talks about Lyoyd,a kid from a small town in Florida and went to play college football in small all black school in Georgia, and because it was small, don't ever think that it doesn't catch the attention of NFL SCOUTS, and you would be surprised to know even though it was a very small school, it doesn't go unnoticed, it doesn't, and me coming from Honolulu Hawaii, I was noticed very fast when I was in high school, and graduated early, going to the UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT MANOA,KAPIOLANI COMMUNITY COLLEGE, INTRODUCTION TO CULINARY ARTS, and two former CHEF INSTRUCTORS, we're former INSTRUCTORS at the CIA IN HYDE PARK UPSTATE NEW YORK STATE, and because of my background, after I left the Army, I gained a reputation as a student ahead of my time, in the CULINARY ARTS in NYC, specially in MANHATTAN, as my father once told me, USE YORK CHI,TO MAKE YOUR DREAMS BECOME REALITY, so true, as the Chinese people are very heavy into PHYSIOLOGY, the power of THOUGHT ,and China is the longest standing civilization to date and no one will dispute, that claim, as is written in history.
It all started with Jack Lambert: A 9x Pro Bowl selection in 1974 and progressed through some of the most awesome linebackers in the NFL to include: Jack Ham: A 8x Pro Bowl selection, James Farrior: A 2x Super Bowl Champion and 2x Pro Bowl selection, Lawrence Timmons: A 1x Pro Bowl selection and 1x Second-Team All-Pro, Andy Russell: A 7x Pro Bowl selection Levon Kirkland: A 2x Pro Bowl selection Ryan Shazier: A 2x Pro Bowl selection T.J. Watt: A 4x Pro Bowl selection and 2x First-Team All-Pro, James Harrison: A 5x Pro Bowl selection Larry Foote: A 1x Super Bowl Champion to name a few that were feared by NFL Quarterbacks.
Let me put this into perspective Greg was deebo before deebo (James Harrison)😂 we lacked somethings in the 90s and keeping pace with “Americas Team). Losing the SB at that , nun the less when we talk LBs of the steelers Greg Lloyd is def Top 10 all time. maybe top 20 cuz theres alot of fucking monster LBs that played for Pittsburgh llol🖤💛🖤💛🫡
I attended Fort Valley State and I went back for home coming one year and I saw Greg Lloyd there and I dapped him up and grab his arm and I swear his fore arm a triceps feels like a piece of cast iron.
I like the comment "The Steelers defense anchored by Lloyd, Greene & Kirkland" at 8:1, that is matched with a picture of each as their name is called. Except the Greene picture is none other than Mr. Steeler himself a.k.a. Mean Joe Greene and obviously not Kevin who of course was the Greene who played alongside Lloyd and Kirkland. Gotta love both of those Greenes. They played with a ton of heart and tremendous skill. Arguably 2 of the best players to ever sit foot on a football field.
This man was a FORCE, and while I'll get the usual "he didn't play enough," and "His stats aren't up there......" BS his combo with Kevin was the best of it's era and almost matches Lambert/Ham. Those guys are in the Hall, Greg should be in there too.
Now you have to do one with levon Kirkland right after Greg Lloyd went down levon Kirkland stepped in in that middle linebacker spot you have to do on a levon Kirkland
It's hard to say that Greg is the greatest, but I'll say that his play I believe was only 2nd to Jack Lambert, I loved watching Greg Lloyd play football
It wasn’t James Harrison? James Harrison was one of the meanest Linebackers I remember. But I am younger so Greg Lloyd was before my time. Especially after reading the comments.
His career was cut short because of the staph infection he contracted when his ankle became infected post surgery. That was 1996-97. He played for the Panthers after that but he was no longer the same.
Look at the difference in pads they used back then compared to what we have in 2024. Uhhhhhh... what's going on with safety being a priority in the NFL? The pads get smaller and thinner every year. I miss the big pads.
For intimidation, heck yeah. For tenacity, it's James Harrison. Now, If you had to make a stop, Jack Ham was THE best tackler that EVER put on a Steeler jersey.
Llyod is 1 of my favorite all-time Steelers!
I think Lloyd belongs in the Hall of Fame. The Lloyd, and Greene combo was the best combo since Lambert, and Ham.
Forgot Russell
Quiver and Quake
He was James Harrison before James Harrison, or rather Harrison was the new Greg Lloyd
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨👀👀👀👀👀👀
His "I wasn't hired for my disposition." t-shirt was classic. So true....
I'm not a Steelers fan but I've always been a fan of Greg Lloyd !!!
I'm a Bears fan, but Greg Lloyd is one of my favorite players of all time!!!
Greg Lloyd was a once in a generation type of linebacker,
which on a team that was built to dominate. This iZ Blizburgh FOOTBALL. Salute Mr. Lloyd !
A great list... You can suggest a few of your favorite legends, so we can cover them in the future...
I agree- they're the STEELERS - they should have numbers that LOOK like strong Steel girders, not squiggly weak lines.
Greg Lloyd should be in The NFL Hall of Fame !!!
I remember this guy, he was badass.
@JoshuaJohnson-mc2dl A True competitor in every aspect of Football. !
He couldn't play in today's NFL rulebook.
Yes I do agree that he's one of the greatest linebacker in football history
Dang i wish he had gotten a ring
If O’Donnel wouldn’t have so many completions to the Cowboys, he would have had one.
My linebacker for life
The Knee Injury Is The Only Thing That Derailed Him From A Hall Of Fame Career 👌🏿!
That is straight up god Damn truth. Dude was a beast under chuck noll and cowher. I still have his jersey somewhere. Bought it back in da day!!
AVOID LLOYD was 1 of the Best Signs in stadium History 😂😂
Gregg Lloyd Is a natural beast one of my favorite Steeler linebackers
I loved it when he said the F word on tv when he was interviewed after the '95 AFC championship game
And then Michael Irvin said the s-word after the Cowboys won the NFC Championship. Hence the time delay instead of live broadcasts.
I remember that! He said "We're not just going to the Superbpwl... we're gonna win the F***'n thing." Would've been prophetic except for Neil O'donnel picks to a wide-open Larry Brown. Not once... but twice with both resulting in Dallas TDs.

He is one of the greatest outsiders linebackers 🎖️
Lloyd #95 and Greene #91!!! Two of the best ever!!! Quiver and Quake!!! 🖤💛🏈💛🖤 HERE WE GO!!!
I agree. When him n Kevin Greene were together they had to be one of the worst nightmares of all time for qb's
I’m 40 and to this day he’s my favorite football player of all time. He didn’t tolerate excuses and played that way.
Absolutely one of the very best.
I agree with you. But da stillers do not retire numbers. No one gets 75 or 12 or 32 tho
This might be a little biased because I am a Steelers fan Greg Lloyd should definitely be in the Hall of Fame he was so good and feared him and Kevin Greene were part of the best defense of the Steelers besides obviously the 70s defense man I miss Greg Lloyd he was a monster out there
They lost because O'Donnell threw more passes to the Cowboys than his own receivers!
Some of the Steelers came to my no name college near Pittsburgh for a charity basketball game against Police/Fire around ‘94. One of my all time favorites and yes one of the all time greatest 💪
Put him in the Hall of Fame already
My all time favorite Steeler.
The Steelers will never have another LB like him💪🏽
The NFL uniforms were the best looking back then
I wasn't hired for my sunny disposition.... 😂😂 Best shirt ever
Played At Ft Valley State College " The Blue Death Defense " Under Head Coach Doug Porter & Defensive Coach Alfonso Varner , That Defense Was Good In The SIAC Conference Because Of Greg Lloyd
"I wasn't hired for my disposition!"... Greg Lloyd
It’s a shame he’s not in the hall of fame
One hell of a pass rusher in the NFL at the OLb position
5x pro bowler and 3x all pro player
If not for injuries in 87,88 & 96
He’d be a hall of famer
Underrated legend
James Harrison would have been more suited to this era of football. Imagine how crazy that would have been.
The monster under the bed one badd man .
I'm from Baltimore and in between the colts and ravens when we didn't have a team, I owned a Greg Lloyd jersey.
That's a pure fan moment..
He has always been my favorite.
I'll never forget when he hit Marino so hard, old Danny boy could only grab his jersey while catching his breath from his back.
Yes. Top 5 all time Steelers linebacker, for sure.
The Steelers has always kept kickass linebackers .
The info at the start of this video is incorrect.

I’m glad you said it. I’m from Fort Valley. I was waiting for the truth.
YES,GREG LLOYD IS ONE OF THE TUFFEST SOB TO EVER PLAY THE GAME AND ONE OF THE BEST LBS TO WEAR THE BLACK AND GOLD! I BELIEVE HE IS ALSO A HOFER!
Ll0yd should be one of greates line backer in steeler history
I still have his jersey. He was a beast 💪. One of favorite player and Kevin Greene.
@8:16 Mean Joe Green, Kevin Greene, Greg Lloyd combo was devastating
I noticed they show Mean Joe when it was supposed to be Kevin.
One of my favorite players! Bears fan........ even!
Who's the other? We are trying to cover the maximum legends... You can suggest a few.. thanks
@@NFLExpedition derrick Thomas, Barry word, Charles Hailey, Richard dent, wilber marshall, to name a few.
GREG LLOYD WAS THE HEARTBEAT 💓 TO HELL... 💀☠️💪💥💨💤
I’m glad you’re recognizing him, but the early part of the video ( his childhood is wrong )
He is my favorite all time Steeler. No one feared the Steelers in the 80's. The doninating attitude was brought back in the 90's and it was spearheaded by Greg Lloyd.
Can we get a Chad Brown mention?
Yeah, you can suggest a few.. We will try to cover...

T.J. Watt: A 4x Pro Bowl selection and 2x First-Team All-Pro,
James Harrison: A 5x Pro Bowl selection
Larry Foote: A 1x Super Bowl Champion
to name a few that were feared by NFL Quarterbacks.
How is it possible that someone is meaner than James Harrison. Literally almost impossible to believe!
Let me put this into perspective Greg was deebo before deebo (James Harrison)😂 we lacked somethings in the 90s and keeping pace with “Americas Team). Losing the SB at that , nun the less when we talk LBs of the steelers Greg Lloyd is def Top 10 all time. maybe top 20 cuz theres alot of fucking monster LBs that played for Pittsburgh llol🖤💛🖤💛🫡
hell yeah "Avoid Lloyd" is in the top 5...
Lloyd was a bad man but the position of Linebacker has produced so many meanies in NFL history.
Him and Kevin Greene were freaking scary bro. I used them on Madden like 93-94. 3-4 OL blitz getting in there 85%of the time
I attended Fort Valley State and I went back for home coming one year and I saw Greg Lloyd there and I dapped him up and grab his arm and I swear his fore arm a triceps feels like a piece of cast iron.
I'm a fan, but ever since The Lego Movie, it's forever LuhLoyd.
I like the comment "The Steelers defense anchored by Lloyd, Greene & Kirkland" at 8:1, that is matched with a picture of each as their name is called. Could you imagine Watt playing across from Lloyd or Greene? Goodell would outlaw edge rushing.
This guy was a animal
This man was a FORCE, and while I'll get the usual "he didn't play enough," and "His stats aren't up there......" BS his combo with Kevin was the best of it's era and almost matches Lambert/Ham. Those guys are in the Hall, Greg should be in there too.
Avoid Lloyd
He was a BEAST!
“Anchored by Lloyd, JOE GREENE, and Kirkland…”
THAT would be cool but…😂
Wow never knew he went to Charlotte High School we played them every yr in some sport being that I’m from Fort Myers
Seriously you show Cee Dee Lamb picture when talking bout the 95 cowboys??
He would destroy OT in todays game
8:15 😂 why do you have a picture of mean Joe Greene in this video instead of Kevin Greene??? 😂
Still have my 1995 Lloyd Starter jersey
It would have been great to have Lloyd and Harrison as bookends.
How is this man not in the HOF?
Yinz remember Lloyd saying "let's go get that FUCKING Super Bowl", live on TV after winning the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP?
next to jay novacek ... my favorite football player EVER....
Noted. Thanks
For sure H.O.F. The impact that
Greg Avoid Lloyd had on the NFL. Was in comparison to L.T. Of the NYC GIANTS.
7:38 I remember this hit on Drew Bledsoe oh so well. In today's game, that's a million dollar fine and 3 year suspension.
Greg Lloyd vs James Harrison. Who meaner???
Look at those shoulder pads.
Horrible images.... just so you're aware kevin greene is white
I don’t know how they got that so bad. They couldn’t tell that was Mean Joe? He was number 91 not number 75.
Stop bringing up race- WE don’t see color!
Rooney Rule.....
I always thought he was green… but I’m not racist
It's a script run through a text to voice then just randomized chopped up footage of content already on UA-cam.
7:40 defenders have always dished out helmet to helmet shots at opponents in defenseless positions.
I am nfl video editor do you need video editor?
It was a high ankle sprain that derailed him, not a knee injury. Rod Woodson had the knee injury.
His career was cut short because of the staph infection he contracted when his ankle became infected post surgery. That was 1996-97. He played for the Panthers after that but he was no longer the same.
Philadelphia's astroturfing is toxic, that’s where the germ lived.
The meanest linebacker was Jack Lambert, coincidentally he also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and was the driving force in 4 Superbowl titles
Jack Lambert
Dallas played lights-out in that Super Bowl. Especially on defense. Greg Lloyd is easily one of the best to never win the big one
Greg was great, as was the team. What he brought would bring him nothing but penalties today.
Look at the difference in pads they used back then compared to what we have in 2024. Uhhhhhh... what's going on with safety being a priority in the NFL? The pads get smaller and thinner every year. I miss the big pads.
he couldn't be blocked on tecmo bowl
Ask him when he met Larry Allen
I guess you never heard of Jack Lambert young pup.
A great player, one of the greatest Steelers, but not the meanest linebacker in NFL history. Nod there should go to Jack Lambert.
Sorry but its jack lambert.
For intimidation, heck yeah. For tenacity, it's James Harrison. Now, If you had to make a stop, Jack Ham was THE best tackler that EVER put on a Steeler jersey.
