One of my favorite games. There is a randomness to it but you know the cards out there (and when I teach it I make sure that folks understand what cards are in the deck and the potential damage they can cause) and you can mitigate their effects. I've also found that most games I've played do swing quite a bit.... you can feel out of it one round just to have a event or other players destroy each other. I suppose you could attack a species in a weak position but given the number of rounds, the limited action tokens and everything else going on on the board that is rarely, if ever, the smart play. I also love that each species plays so differently tactically.
Catastrophe says "Select a tile. Eliminate all but one species there. ..." So at 3:02:57 the selected tile, which already had only one species, shouldn't have been unaffected?
Bit late reaction but final scoring, all dominance markers are removed and then every tile is scored. But you guys also counted all dominance tiles per player and scored them as bonus points. It is nowhere stated that that is the case?
They are dramatically different games. Even the theme is only tangentially connected. Dominant Species is one of my favorite games and is considerably easier to get to the table than Bios: Megafauna. That said, I enjoy both games, but yeah, sorry for somewhat of a non-answer...but they're just completely different and will appeal to different folks.
Sometimes youtube takes a day to render the whole stream as a video; often truncates to the last 2 to 4 hours before being completely available. Doesn't seem to happen on the mobile site for me, however.
Interesting fact....I know two people who played this game over two days and they took 18 hours to play....no joke. The one player I used to play with was prone to MAJOR AP.... 18 hours... ugh.
Can't thumbs up this video hard enough. RIP Chad, and what a wonderful idea, and a wonderful game.
If no one helps her to components she would have lost. Thers a german saying "Without arms, no cookies!".
This is one of my favorite 4X games and one of my favorite games overall!

I watched this video in preparation for a game of this, and even if the play didn't happen, now I want to play it so much I'm trying to buy it!
This is by far my favorite game. It can be incredibly mean though, so take that into consideration when bringing it to the table.
I just saw this game for the first time this weekend and I am wondering how the hell I missed it!
Interesting. I see far too few fights to remove species from tundra tiles.
I still reckon a certain 'Rex' would've dominated this game, had she participated.... :)

It's stated on the Ice Age card. The final scoring takes place after the Ice Age card and the other Domination actions that turn.

Edward (and others) : dominant species or bios : megafauna ? Which would you recommend ? Thanks !

@@Heavycardboard Which means : BOTH ! :) Thanks for the answer.
I don't hink i could play that with my typical group. All would be only focusing on me, no matter how the board standing is.
That's the fate of the one buying and explaining the games. It's like a masochist trait.
Any idea if this game will see a reprint with better components?
@@davidsodaro6079 Link to those would be appreciated :)
@@lokihve6591 In case you are still looking, Phalanx now released one - so far in Polish and French.
