Stabat Mater is Pergolesi's masterpiece. It is considered a great medieval text describing the Virgin Mary's suffering at the foot of the cross as she witnessed not only her son dying but the son of God dying. According to legend, this piece of music was the last piece of music work that Pergolesi wrote before his death. It became one of the most popular and enduring works of the entire eighteenth century.

Andrew Parrott parcels out the solos among the whole choir - I'm surprised you didn't recognise the distinctive voice of Caroline Trevor on the Mean line at the beginning!! She is rather ubiquitous among early music groups.

Who are the soloists? Sounds like the 1st tenor is Mark Padmore, but don't recognise any of the others.
