This is a quick rundown of the install process for the Dieselgeek Sigma 5 short Shift Kit sold before January 1st 2021. Jim shows how to remove the stock shifter from an 02J transmission found in 2000-2006 MK4 based cars like the Golf, GTI, and Jetta with five speed transmissions. Once the stock shifter is removed, the Sigma parts are added with the finer details of the install being mentioned. Just Installed this shifter an hour ago.. I love it.. I was having problems with the plastic slide clip overshooting the shifter arm on hard shifts, and locking it in 3rd, causing me to have to pull over to the side of the road and reset linkage. I was pulling my hair out looking for an answer, and my buddy linked me to your sigma 5 shifter, and I ordered that day!
I'll be getting this kit soon for my 00 jetta I hope. Just started a new job and need to save up first. Hopefully I can keep the shift tower mechanism and cables limping along til then. The plastic guide is broken, the counter weight mechanism keeps loosening up and I lose all the gears but I've figured out how to adjust the thing when it happens thanks to you. Your videos are what is keeping me driving. Thanks!
should have bought this years ago, but I didn't know about it. Since I couldn't find where to post my review on your website I decided to drop a few lines here: I am very very happy with the Sigma 5 mk4 shifter, it is top notch quality, great design!
It is very easy to install, to a person who is NOT mechanically inclined this should take no longer than 30 minutes, I was able to install it in 10 minutes but I didn't have to get anything out of my way since my engine bay has no air box, no maf, no battery cover etc... After the install I did have to re adjust and add a bit of slack to the upper cable because my shifter felt too notchy but it is a simple task.
distance between gears and side to side movement was reduced by around 35%, gears are very easy to select and each selection is now supper accurate, definitely the best shifter in the market out of the ones I have tried, not to mention you will get rid of the super fragile plastic cable ends. 10 out of 10 for this shifter.
Mine just came in today in so happy Jim I cannot wait to go home and install
I’ll be watching this video again in a week or two when my new setup shows up! Lol taking out all my o2a stuff and doing an o2j setup with the sigma 5 and a polo box 😬 I’ll do a video installing it all

why did my Sigma 5 for mk4 only come with one cable end link? this video has 2. i don’t get it.

Hey, has anyone had a problem getting the front to back part? Like I line it up with the joined teeth but it doesn't fully go in. How can I fix that?
@@dieselgeekdotcom yeah i have a 2006 VW Beetle and when installing the front/back bracket it gets stuck 1/8th of the way in do i force it down withthenut?

Is there any negative aspect to running this if I also have a B&M short throw in cabin shifter. I don't like the feel still so I was thinking of adding this. Idk about how a short throw with a short throw would work lol
If you stop the video on 1:50, there is a black piece on the root of the shaft. On my car it is broken, and the shaft moves sideways, causing the fifth gear not to get on. Any advice how to fix ? And thanks for the great adjustement videos.
Ok, what I gathered so far is that the play on the shaft is due to worn ballbearing surrounding the shaft, and the black part is just a seal for it.
Is it a shorter shift trow than the original?
