I went to Costa Mesa speedway in the 1970's-2000 and I even worked with Sam's mechanic in a Irvine cabinet shop before Sam went over the pond to Europe..... I LOVED following Sam's career since he was young. Sam went to Los Alamitos high school where my mom graduated from. Watching him not being much older than me working his way up through the classes and crashing at fearless speeds was inspiring to say the least. Sam was living a dream of mine that started when I was 5 years old - I pulled for Sam every time he came out of the pit gate. From the Bast brothers then Penhall to Sudden Sam it was a great time to see 3 generations of Speedway hand the throttle cable on to the next generation. PS: Wild Bill Cody sold Sam the bike that got him started. But you probably already knew that. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. -Cheers
