Really rethinking what I need and can do without instead of buying all the newest gadgets and small appliances….sticking with the basics

My best tip: Clean as I go, and always sweep and mop before I close the kitchen at night;) I love to wake up to a sparkling clean kitchen. I have zero clutter on my counters, as my coffee maker, toaster, and electric tea kettle are all in a cupboard next to where I make those items. It feels great not seeing appliances sitting there against a wall.

Learning to keep my toaster off the counter has been so great for keeping my kitchen looking tidy! I removed the dish rack a few months ago and now it's time to throw it out because I don't need it! 😊 I'm starting to love my kitchen again 🤩

Yes! I hade to say that the storage in that kitchen was very difficult and was not easy to keep organized, especially with so much stuff!!! ❤️

I also keep my utensils in a crock but I do have an empty drawer if I don’t want to look at them. That, the toaster(that matches my wall color), and a small plant is all that is out. So much more peaceful.

Good morning one and all ☀️
You have been such an inspiration to me! I just love your kitchen!! I’m 61 yrs old and didn’t realize I have always been minimalist at heart. I have decluttered SO MUCH this year and so happy for it! Our kitchen is tiny and it just isn’t possible for us to have clear countertops. We have a countertop toaster over/air fryer, toaster, can opener, electric water kettle, paper towel holder, Keurig…Our house is old and wasn’t designed well besides being a quite small kitchen. We need all our minimal cabinet space for dishes, pots and pans, food and the like. Plus I don’t think my husband would agree any of these countertop items should be put away. I have a lot to shift to clean the whole counter. I have one section of countertop, which is a bar counter, that I’m focusing on as my clear space.

It’s great that even in a small space you at least have one area dedicated to be kept clear! Nice work! ❤️

Experimenting with clear out and different zones. It’s worked wonders for me. Things I thought I needed out I prefer tucked away, creating a zone for my tea making makes mornings especially a respite, and removing all things that aren’t a priority have created swaths of space to the point where I have empty cabinets even in my tiny kitchen. I never realized until I dug deep in this process how wrong I was in thinking the decor was lifting me up, when really it was stressing me out! Thanks again Angela❤

So cool. I have said kitchen triangle. I also like the galley kitchen layout as well. Whatever you need is either right in front of you or right in back of you.
One of my fave things are those cabinet door “baskets” (not sure what they’re called exactly lol). You just hook it on the door and inside you can put things in the basket. Some also have a dual towel rack on the outer side. I have a few. One is for my go to cat cleaning items. (Which I use more than all other things). Another is for oils and such. Another is for foil and long, awkward things like that. I don’t have to squat all the way down or heavy lift to get just what I need. I also have one specially for the paper towel roll. Lol. It’s a pretty small kitchen so I’ve had to get a little creative with where to put things.
I also had to change up the baking stuff in the bottom of the stove drawer. I just took out the most used couple of cookie sheets and put them in with the pots and pans vertically. Saves me a lot of bending and squatting hassles as well as having to move all the things on top and then put them back. Plus crumbs and such always fall down there and I don’t like having to clean that off every time. Prob will also get rid of a few baking things tho as I don’t find myself baking a whole lot anymore. (Esp since I got that small toaster/convection/air fryer thing lol. I use that baby all the time now…as it’s just me (human wise) so I’m often doing food on a smaller scale which I don’t need a giant oven for-just the full pizzas mostly lol). And since it’s just me I kind of “shrunk” the size of many things. Like smaller knife block. Smaller cutting board. Etc. And super small coffee pot. It’s working great so far.
And btw. You look especially great today. Hair. Makeup. Skin glowing. ❤️❤️

Awe, thanks for the compliment. ❤️ And…great tip about going for the smaller appliances if you don’t need the full sized versions. This could be a huge space saving technique for many people!
Also…I agree with the crumbs in the drawer under the oven. It’s such a mess sometimes that I don’t even bother putting anything in there anymore! ❤️

I feel like my entire adult life I’ve been going for the larger version of everything (for obvious reasons) - so yeah, this was interesting! You can still have ‘the thing’ but in a smaller size!

    • @goodenoughgirl8102
      @goodenoughgirl8102 8 місяців тому

@@ArrowHillCottage Lol. Of course… right tho eh? According to our needs. If I can’t keep the cat mafia from taking over I may need larger things. 😅😅 I was thinking of the stock pot thing. I have one sort of what I call kinda large but not as large as standard (to plop whole chickens in etc) stock pot.
Like I got a Sam’s membership one year tho. All the stuff was too big. Too much. Got some take and bake and got so tired of the same dish (like 5 times lol). I still have some of the jalapeños. 😅😅 (years later lol). So we def have to pay attention to who we are, our needs and such and measure it to scale.
Moving tho. Oh my. I’m going to look at a slightly used tiny home next trip (in a couple weeks). Amazing price. Great quality. Decent size. Trailer comes with. 😅😅 I can’t believe it. A little scared but mondo excited. 😬😬Scoping out land/plots. At a lake community no less. Or near there. It was funny tho. Me hearing in my head “She considers a field and she buys it.” Lol. The plan was rent if I had to (and I thought I’d have to lol but I don’t really want to). Oh yes. I think I need someone to pinch me Bcuz all of this used to seem so out of reach and I wanna make sure I’m not just dreaming again. Lol. I think if I was brutally honest with myself…the scary part is really “maybe I can’t really have this (what I really want the most) and I’ll be disappointed again.” Or maybe I’ll take the wrong risk and I’m being foolish. Am I too green for this? But I’m still gonna go see what is possible. Heart over head. Also Bcuz those things are only lingering whispers from my toxic mother…not from me or God. So here I am rallying up all the faith filled cheerleaders I can find. My counselor. You. My friend Karole. My new tribe “Sigma Females.” God Almighty. Lol. Shaky knees got the job done before so it should work for this also. Lol. Sooo. True to form. Shrink the square footage also. 😂😂
