I think my favorite thing about your videos is that you answer the question that the video discusses almost immediately before you start to move onto another topic. It makes it easy to watch for 1 min and jump off if that’s all you wanted. Thank you.
I can’t believe how much information is loaded into this playlist. Again thank you so much for all of the time and energy that you have put into these videos.
Hey Chris Thank you soo much for sharing your incredible knowledge I really love the videos. I am just going to start breeding quail in my back garden and you are by far the best of the best when it comes to quail!
As usual, very informative and complete video. I am a newbie farmer and i have chickens, turkeys, guineas, ducks...but i am thinking to expand to quail and rabbits. I am studying your videos and liking your easy, but effective approach.
Hi Chris. Thanks for the video! I was worried about the babies getting water in the first few days. I took the crumble and mixed in water to about wet oatmeal consistency. The babies loved it and until they got their bearings, it worked well. It can dry out in a few hours, so I mix it up 3-4 x a day for the first few days.
I have never had a problem with birds finding food or water. They take to it right away. Nothing wrong with what you did though as long as you don't let it mold.
Hi I love these videos me and my dad are planning on hatching some soon when its a bit warmer where i am and these videos are such a big help. Im writing down all the necessities right now lol. But what is the brand that you use? i've been looking but yours seems very good and i don't want to accidentally miss something on the nutritions and it turn out hurting them
Spot on Chris. Thanks for the great info. Exactly answered my questions/concern regarding feed from chick through adulthood... in particular how much protein and how much calcium. Thanks again.
Hey Chris, first of all thank you so much for all your videos, great info, short and straight to the point! Now, thanks to you i'll be getting into quail and i've just bought online the first 48 eggs to hatch in my incubator! :-) they should arrive soon! I have a question, i'm not being able to find anything more than 21% protein and 0,78% calcium (turkey starter feed). I have broilers, layers, chicks from the incubator and nothing matches that proteic/calcium level that you advise. I'm in Portugal so the brands, of course, are not the same as in the US. What can i do to get to that percentage or if i can't get to it, what happens? Slower growth, later processing, less eggs, less meat? Thanks!
Honestly, your birds will probably do just fine with 21% protein. I do like a higher protein and feel that it does help with faster growth and better egg laying but I don't know that it makes a big enough difference to stress about it too much. If you want to raise the protein level, you can grind up dry cat food or fish food as a cheap addition. I would make sure that you have some calcium for them though. Don't add it to the feed, but offer it separate so they can have as much as they want. Crushed oyster shell are usually a pretty cheap way to do that.
Hì Chris. I have had a problem with losing some of my very young chicks (day 2-5) after that the rest do really well. I was concerned that they simply didn't feed and therefore starved. (Doesn't sound likely based on your video). I give them a commercial chick crumb. Do you have any similar issue? Any suggestions as to what I can do to stop this? Thanks again for a very informative video.
I'm with you here. I SUCK at raising quail from hatch. I've lost as much as 50%. Quite frustrating. I'm no dummy, but I'm not gonna try again until I've learned everything this guy can teach me.....sigh.
It's normal to have some losses in the first week. The main reasons for some to die off are the following. 1. They get wet. If they get wet their core body temp drops and they're done. It's a challenge to save them after the fact. Make sure their water is full of pebbles. I use a peanut butter lid for the first 5 days. 2. The heat source is too focused. They pile up and suffocate. 3. The temperature is wrong. If they are chirping, they aren't happy and something needs to be fixed.
I sometimes lose one or two in the first few days but rarely over that many. The main issue is usually heat related. Watch the birds. If they are all piled up under the heat lamp it is too cold and needs to be moved closer to the box. If they are all piled up as far from the heat lamp as possible it is too hot and needs to be moved further away from the box. if they are spread out all over the place it is just right. It could also be genetics issues that cause it so if you still have problems you might want to get some new birds and mix them in to see if that fixes the issue.
Kieran Foster Quail are more of a game bird unlike chickens therefore the chicken food your feeding then doesn’t supply them with enough protein. Chicken food has about 19% protein while quail or game bird food will be 22% or more, that little bit makes a big difference
@@Slightlyrednecked Hey Chris do you have a source for quail egg containers with labels on them so I can sell them through my local market. Thanks Billy F&M Homesteading
I've had my baby quail under the heat lamp at about 120 degrees. They love it. I've only lost a few, and they jumped into their tiny water cups, yes, the easiest way to lose quail, if they get wet they can't heat up fast enough.
You lie. A quail chick would be dead if it was 120 Fahrenheit. They don’t ‘love it’ you idiot. They are being slow cooked, that’s why they are getting into the water, so they can cool down.
I've had good success using chick starter crumble, easily available in my region. I raise layer hens and meat chickens, so the quail get starter until they hit 8 weeks, and then they start on layer crumble.
Thank you very much for the information but I want to ask why does quail chicks (12 day old) group together while sleeping although the temperature is 33 degree celsius and unfortunately the lower chick fracture their legs and the die?
Hello here in Golden Valley Arizona we just had 3 baby quail run into our yard literally look new. Can not find any others have not seen mom or dad. What should we do
Hi I liked your videos on the incubating and hatching process but I just had to add in my two cents worth of experience. I too have the same kind of incubator and egg turner that you have and after doing a few batches I learned a couple of real handy steps to increase the hatch rate without adhering to the strict rule of complete 3 day lock down. What I have found is that if you do incubate many eggs as in 30-40 or even 50 then leaving many chicks running around wiggling in amongst the unhatched eggs for 3 days is counter productive because they keep moving the eggs that have not hatched yet and this causes the unhatched chicks to have a much harder time to get out of the egg shell. What I have found is that as soon as a few chicks hatch out as in maybe 10-15 or so or about after the first 18 hours after the first one hatches I carefully prepare a couple of paper towels crunched into a ball and soak them in pretty hot water, hotter than warm but not scalding hot and instead of opening up the incubator all the way I barely lift the lid and immediately place the hot water soaked paper towels in towards the back of the incubator and at the same instance pull out a couple of hatched chicks, I have a small container like a cardboard box right there at the incubator so it only takes a couple of seconds to remove each chick, by placing the hot water soaked paper towels into the bator this helps offset the cooling effect of cracking the lid to remove chicks and each session of removing them which is about 6 or more hours apart I replace the paper towels with freshly hot water soaked ones and doing it this way tends to keeps the unhatched eggs as they are undisturbed or moved and reduces the random running around and squirming of freshly hatched chicks. This method has produced over 40 healthy chicks from a group of 55 eggs so I find this a major improvement of any other method that I have tried. I also leave the bator going at least 4 or 5 days after most of the eggs have hatched since sometimes there are late hatchers which can survive to hatch out given the chance. Good luck and I hope you give this method a trial run to see how good the results are. Marti
Chris, here in Maryland, I'm having a very difficult time finding feed above 24% protein. Your thoughts/suggestions on whether that's sufficient would be greatly appreciated!
Hi it's been awhile since I posted and I find all the videos I've seen to be very interesting and informative. I have a question about a BIG beetle type bug my cat was playing with on the ground. I picked it up and put it on my grill with the leaf. Can you tell me what kind of bug you think it might be? A friend said these types of beetles aren't usually in Minnesota where I live. I'm along the Snake River east of Pine City, Minn. Or do you know a good website that has some info on weird looking insects. There are some spiders around here that are attracted to the water. Also are there any poisonous spiders around this area that you may know of? Thank you Chris😁
I am not in your area but I might know what kind of beetle it is. As far as venomous spiders (not poisonous) in your area, all spiders and mites are venomous, but the only ones that are any danger at all are black widows and brown recluse. I don't think you have brown recluse that far north though. If you are on facebook join my facebook group and post a pic and I will see what i can do to help identify the beetle. You can also check with your local conservation agency and they can probably help.
Slightly Rednecked Thanks I will and am on FB. You can friend me at Debbie Brown in Pine City Mn. The bug pics and a few other weird looking bugs and spiders are in my phone, but I don't know how to post them to you. There's no option for sending their pic to you in this reply. I'll accept your request on FB. THANKS! Hope to see it soon.
Look up the Slightly Rednecked group on Facebook. You can join it and post the pic inside of there. I am sorry but I don't send out personal friend requests Too many people to keep up with already. :)
hi Cris, I have some new born quails, most of them are fine but one . thid one cant drink water, onec it drinks some water it seems had drugs, it jumps, turn in air, if think maybe it.wants to stand on its hands ? what makes it so crazy? another question is when can they eat veges? i have too much fresh vegetate left over and I have a garden.
I am so sorry to hear about your problem. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to tell you what exactly is causing it. It sounds like the bird may have some kind of genetic issue. I would give it some time and see if it improves but I am not sure there is much else you can do. As far as feeding vegetables, you can do that whenever you want to. Just make sure to clean up what they don't eat.
hi chris love your channel mate got a question i started with 3 female quail and 1male quail the person i got them off said 50/50 chance they could be interbreed as he has only got 2males and couple of females can i keep breeding them in the incubator or just buy a new male quail
Inbreeding isn't a big concern at all with quail. You may want to bring in some new roosters every couple of years but I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Chris, do you need to feed coturnix quail any type of grit or oyster shells either as chicks or adults? Or does the game bird starter have that included?
Hi Chris! These past few hours my baby quails are having seizures. I'm not really sure what's wrong. Does it have anything to do with the feeds I give them? They usually eat grinded corn feeds.
I am so sorry to hear that. It could be caused by many different things but the feed is the first place to look. especially if it is has gotten wet and molded at all. That would be the first thing i would think of causing the issue. I would move away from corn based feed myself and try to find a good game bird starter. I hope that helps and I hope you get it figured out.
Thank you cause I wasn't sure if chick starter was ok for the baby quail. Someone told me it could make them sterile. I haven't ever had that happen well that Im Aware of.
I did contact my local feed store and the only thing they could get was 24% protein and it's a chicken Starter by dumor poultry now they did have a comprehensive supplement that you would add to the food and I did ask if it was unmedicated they said yes but I wanted to know what you think. Clearly your doing something right been doing this for years So i really value your advice. I did find one with 30% protein would that be ok
Hi Chris, how many mealworms should I feed my baby quail. We have a baby quail that we are watching until we can find him a good home. We have a heater, water, and everything else needed we were just wondering about feeding it mealworms. Thank you.
Can you put saw dust in the bottom of brooder? Would be to must dust from that? Could you slightly wet it to make it work? Asking cuz I found a free supply of saw dust and would like to use it if possible
You can use it but it is going to get very dirty very quickly and might be a pain to clean out. I wouldn't wet it down. You don't want the birds staying wet all the time. I personally just use paper towels in mine. Much easier to clean up in my opinion.
Hey Chris, I hatched my quails in April this year and took them out when they got old enough and warm enough but they did good for the first few weeks but then it went down hill either having one leg removed or skin off their leg Removed they all died sadly I am not really 100% sure why they all died m
Sounds like a predator problem. Skin and legs removed could be raccoons or hawks getting at them through the cages. What size wire are you using? I use 1/4 inch hardware cloth and haven't had any problems.
Feathers for sure but not skin generally. Unless you have just way too many males. If you have more than 1 male for every 3 females that might be part of the issue.
strange. It could be an injury that caused it to swell closed. Generally they will recover from that with no help from you but it is rare for one that young to have that problem. I think if it was me I would just leave it be and watch to see how it does.
Is it okay if I feed them normal unmediated chick crumb as long as I feed them lots of mealworms for protein? Thanks! I'm asking, as my local feed store doesn't have game bird starter
yes that would work. But you might look for turkey starter. It is generally the same thing and can sometimes be found when gamebird starter is not available. Hope that helps.
It is ok but it isn't the ideal. You might talk to some of your farm supply stores or feed stores and see if they can order it in for you. If you can't get gamebird starter, turkey starter is a good alternative and they might be able to get that.
Hey Chris can you do a video on how to setup your incubator please I just got one off eBay and I’m the humidity it said EE and it beeps like crazy and I just wanna start hatching quails
sounds like an stc1000. theres a TON of youtube vids on how to set your parameters on it. its the one i use on my styrofome forced air. they run rock steady
i start to have quails in cages in my garage. i do have a lot of dust powder everywhere.... i do not know what is it and what to do? can you help me? thank you.
Quail are dusty birds for sure. Most if it is probably dander. Adding a sand box will help with that but then you will have dust from the sand. I am afraid that there isn't a way to keep it from happening completely.
I am sorry but i don't give out my phone number. I do use facebook. You can find me under Slightly Rednecked on facebook. I have a page and a facebook group.
What brand of feed please, can you send me a photo. I found my quail on day 4 started to become lethargic so I gave them a soft scramble egg and within about 30 min or so they were almost back to normal. I still give a soft scramble egg every day with the food but I’m wondering if where I live the feed might not be quite rite. Please message me and send a photo please of the brand you use Thank you so much
The brand i use is made by a local feed mill so not available everywhere. Honestly, any brand of gamebird starter or turkey starter should be fine. Just look for something that is high in protein (24% or higher). You may have to ask your feed store to special order it.
Hi I live in northern va and the highest protein I can find which is in a turkey starter is 24% I can find 30% online but the shipping is more than the food it's seilf do you think 24% will be ok thanks
if it was me I would go with 24%. It will probably be fine. If you have some feed stores in your area you might ask if they can order in higher protein as part of their normal order. My feed store will do it for me.
Hi chris it is damn near impossible for me to get a starter crumb that is at least 25% protein without buying a tonne of the stuff the best i can find is 22% turkey crumb but i want to raise my birds for meat will that be enough to butcher them at 8 weeks ? Kieran from Scotland
I think 22% will be ok. It isn't ideal but it will probably work just fine. You may get to a point where it is worth buying the 25% in bulk but if you don't have problems with 22% you may never need to. I would just go with what I could get and see how it does.
Thanks Chris the main issue over here is that both turkey and game bird starter are very seasonal so id have to buy a years supply but even at that the shelf life is only about 3 months so its a loose loose situation for me if i want to hatch birds all year round.
you can buy pond fish food.(like for catfish) its 30% i mix it 50/50.grind it.its about the size of a pea..and its about the highest protein you can buy. 13.00 for a 50 pound bag.it grinds easily. im lucky as i got a 40s model big hobart coffee grinder.i grind all my corn and sunflowers in it as well
if you can't find gamebird starter you can use turkey starter or even chicken starter. If none of those are available you can get a regular chicken feed and grind it up. I hope that helps.
I give all my birds game bird starter but it comes from a local feed mill. Really any brand is fine as long as it is about 25% or higher protein and has about 1.5% to 2.5% calcium.
Chris i know this seems off topic but two of my female Quails have died and they had this red stringy thing coming from their butt, i dont know what it is but it already killed two birds :( and i dont want it to spread, do you know what i can do Chris?
I am so sorry to hear about that. I am having a hard time coming up with a reason for it though. It could be that they were egg bound but that sounds strange that you would have it with two different birds. I am sorry I don't know exactly what to tell you but to just keep an eye on your birds and see if you have any more problems. Hopefully it is just a one time thing.
i make a super strong colloidal silver. i have stopped a bloody flux. and the green slimes. and parvo in puppys. in its tracks w colloidal silver. jus youtube search "colloiidal silver generator" and make your own.unless you want to pay 50.00$ a pind for crappy commercially made. i can make a gallon in less than 3 hours. best stuff in the world to keep around. jus use pure silver. and purified water at 12 volts. watch numerous vids and get a consensus..as there many retards on youtube that dnt know what their talking about. good luck
I have 4 day old coturnix quail and they are eating drinking and pooping just fine. But they pant and it seems like hard time breathing. But not all the time. I have the heat in one area and then they go to the other corner if they get hot. Why would they be panting. There are 2 of them doing this. Please I need help. Anyone???
well i finally got some quail and am not sure if it is just me or they have something but they are dropping like flies. they are only a week old and i got them at the auction.
Slightly Rednecked yes i do looks like they finally are not dieing and still have about half what i started with but they where way from a brooder for a wail so that might have something to do with it but am still excited about having them we got jumbo browns and texas A&M their is a learning curve with every thing but i wish i did not loss half of them.
No cockatiels cannot eat this. They have pellets made specifically for cockatiels that you can get at a number of pet stores. Do not feed cockatiels quail feed as they have different nutrient requirements.
I am sorry but I don't raise California quail so I can't really tell you. I believe that the male is much more colorful and has a tuft on his head though.
The problem with those feeders is they shit in them. Then it ruins feed, wastes feed, and makes a mess. I know from the past growing up raising fighting chickens for years. We had brooders that the feeder hung on the outside and just stuck inside the brooder enough for them eat out of...The jar style feeder would be a better option, or find a metal style that pokes through the cage, and cut a hole in the side of your brooder and stick just enough inside for them to eat out of. It will save you a lot wasted feed, time, etc..
It depends on the kind of bird. For the standard browns at about 2 to 3 weeks once they fully feather out you can tell. The others you need to wait until they hit about 8 weeks and the roosters start crowing to vent sex them.
Well whatever cage you can get together. You might have to break them up into two or three different cages. That many quail are going to need a fairly large cage. You need about 1 square foot per bird in cage space if you do raised cages. If they are on the ground you will need more space or the waste will build up quickly. If you plan on butchering at 8 weeks old you can get away with smaller space until then. I hope that helps.
It’s not true. When you had a failed hatch due to power going out for a day, and only had one make it to hatch, he has nobody else to teach him. It’s day 4 and he hasn’t eaten anything I force water down him.
It is usually used in newly hatched chicks to help keep them from getting Coccidiosis. Most medicated feeds contain amprollium which is a thiamine analogue. You can look it up to get more info but it isn't what you usually think of when you think of medications (it isn't an antibiotic for example). Hope that helps.
Oh No! They are way too crowded in that box..... They are intelligent little birds.... They like to run and jump and explore their surroundings even as tiny babies.... They go viciously after a fly or moth that lands in their box, also they look for seeds and food scraps all around the floor..... This reminds me of factory farming... I just realized something while watching my babies explore their big space and comparing that to your overcrowded birds - reminds me of overcrowded humans in big cities - all they do is eat, drink, work, watch TV or internet and then eat and drink again and again.... human factory farming... except not for meat or eggs, obviously, but for Money for a few elites.....
If it is still in the brooder box make sure it is under the heat lamp until it dries out. Wet baby quail can easily chill and die. I hope that it recovers.
thank you for your suggestion i hope so too if they recover well i update if it is than you very much and more power hope learn more to this quails on your channel and i really did what you said in the video that i put some marbles,i actually follow it and its work thank you more power god bless you
Shhhh... don’t tell my wife we don’t need to grind the feed for the chicks! I got her to let us buy a hand cranked grain mill for them (I really want it to make my own flour too 😉)! Thanks for all the info Brother!
I am sorry to hear that. Is the water in a place that they can get in it? If chicks get wet it is hard for them to warm up and they can die from that even with a heat lamp. Are the birds all gathered under the heat lamp or maybe as far from it as they can get? It may be too hot or too cold. You want the birds spread out all over the brooder. Those are the two most common issues.
I am afraid I don't have a great answer for you. it is hard to know for sure sometimes. it could be that the brooder is too hot. You might try backing the heat lamp away just a tad bit and see if that helps.
By "this guy" you mean me. I would beg to differ. I have raised thousands of coturnix quail over the years. I think that qualifies me to know what I am talking about. And maize meal is just corn. It is not a good option for quail. They are omnivores and need much higher protein than what corn alone can provide.

I've had good success using chick starter crumble, easily available in my region. I raise layer hens and meat chickens, so the quail get starter until they hit 8 weeks, and then they start on layer crumble.
I use a starter as well but I use game bird starter myself. I don't switch over to a layer either but if it is working for you no need to change.
Marti
interesting technique. Thanks for sharing.
i use a washcloth tacked to the sides of the bator.stays wet for hours.and quickly jumps humidity to 60+%..
Why doesn’t anyone show a bag of seed that I can look at it because I can’t figure it out
Chris, here in Maryland, I'm having a very difficult time finding feed above 24% protein. Your thoughts/suggestions on whether that's sufficient would be greatly appreciated!
Boiled eggs are very good for them if you can't find anything.
Slightly Rednecked
Thanks I will and am on FB.
Slightly Rednecked
Okay, I understand, I'll join that.
How often do you clean your broader box out till they go out in the grow out pen?
What do you use for bedding in the tote with the baby quail?
Hi Chris a baby quail no bigger than my ring finger ran into my garage what can I do to raise this little one it’s very tiny please advice thank you
Is this information good for button quail as well?
Also, what's the concern regarding medicated feed? Thanks!
You can buy 50* bags of catfish feed from any feed store grind it up in a blender for baby quails.
Or even corn meal in a bind.
U don't want to eat the medication
Thanks for the info and God bless!
hi Cris, I have some new born quails, most of them are fine but one . thid one cant drink water, onec it drinks some water it seems had drugs, it jumps, turn in air, if think maybe it.wants to stand on its hands ? what makes it so crazy?
another question is when can they eat veges? i have too much fresh vegetate left over and I have a garden.
What size lightbulbs are you using on your router box
I found 3 baby quails today please what is this feed called? And where do I buy it?
Thank you for the information on feeding my question was answer.
What do when the temperature gets over 110° and up to 130° and I have baby chick quail in a brooder box in my garage?
hi chris love your channel mate got a question i started with
3 female quail and 1male quail the person i got them off said 50/50 chance they could be interbreed as he has only got 2males and couple of females can i keep breeding them in the incubator or just buy a new male quail
as i just collect the 3 eggs every day and at the end of
7 days i incubate them with only 3 females and one male
Inbreeding isn't a big concern at all with quail. You may want to bring in some new roosters every couple of years but I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Hi Chris great video this is really helpful.
Thank you so much. So glad you liked it.
Chris, do you need to feed coturnix quail any type of grit or oyster shells either as chicks or adults? Or does the game bird starter have that included?
They don't need any grit and as long as the calcium level in your feed is about 1.5 to 2.5% they don't need any additional calcium either.
Thank you.
No problem.
I think that would work just fine. I use a 30% game bird starter now and it does great.
Would they die if they only had 20% Chicken Starter?
I only have access to 24 percent protein laying crumb would that work if i cant get them to order gamebird?
Hi Chris, how many mealworms should I feed my baby quail. We have a baby quail that we are watching until we can find him a good home. We have a heater, water, and everything else needed we were just wondering about feeding it mealworms. Thank you.
Mealworms should be fed as a treat and not the main diet. With that being said, you can give him a small handful of them a day if you want to.
Slightly Rednecked thank you so much!
Slightly Rednecked I’ll have to check the size of the hardware cloth but I had a typo their was skin removed off of their head is that from mating?
Feathers for sure but not skin generally. Unless you have just way too many males. If you have more than 1 male for every 3 females that might be part of the issue.
HuntMaster I heard if the temperature isn't right or there's not enough space they get aggressive towards each other
Hi where do I get the feed
criss one of my 2day old chicks eyelid is closed do you have any suggestions and would you put any medicine on it thanks
strange. It could be an injury that caused it to swell closed. Generally they will recover from that with no help from you but it is rare for one that young to have that problem. I think if it was me I would just leave it be and watch to see how it does.
Hi Chris where I can get all those food ?
Check with a farm supply store or feed mill in your area. You can order online but the shipping prices are incredibly high.
Our quail hatched and jumed out and. Broke its leg. Don't know how to fix it.
Great video. So helpful. I just bought a pair of quail. Thanks to you, I have clue of how to take care of them.
Thank you for watching. I am glad you found it helpful.
Slightly Rednecked Ah okay, thanks!
I have a questiuon . in my area can't find gamebird starter and grower feed. They mostly carry chick starter and grower. Is that ok for quails. Thanks
It is ok but it isn't the ideal. You might talk to some of your farm supply stores or feed stores and see if they can order it in for you. If you can't get gamebird starter, turkey starter is a good alternative and they might be able to get that.
Why would a quail's feathers look scraggly or curly? Would it be they are not getting something they need in their diet, and if so, what?
It could be a number of things. It could be just genetics of the bird. or they may be molting. Usually it isn't anything to worry about though.
@@Slightlyrednecked Okay, thanks! =3
Hey Chris can you do a video on how to setup your incubator please I just got one off eBay and I’m the humidity it said EE and it beeps like crazy and I just wanna start hatching quails
I am not sure I can help really but I will try. What type of incubator do you have?
sounds like an stc1000.
theres a TON of youtube vids on how to set your parameters on it.
its the one i use on my styrofome forced air.
they run rock steady
i start to have quails in cages in my garage. i do have a lot of dust powder everywhere....
i do not know what is it and what to do?
can you help me? thank you.
Quail are dusty birds for sure. Most if it is probably dander. Adding a sand box will help with that but then you will have dust from the sand. I am afraid that there isn't a way to keep it from happening completely.
Hi Chris, a lot of folks will soak their feed for chickens , can you do that for quail?
sure. You can do the same thing for quail.
hello sir i enjoyed ur videos so much .. Thank u for sharing such a good ideas n all information . m from Pakistan N Fan of Yours Good Job Sir ..
Thank you so much for the kind comments. I am so glad you like the videos and find them helpful.
Slightly Rednecked can i have ur phn number ? n sir do u use Facebook instagram or whatsapp ?
I am sorry but i don't give out my phone number. I do use facebook. You can find me under Slightly Rednecked on facebook. I have a page and a facebook group.
Good job 👍
Thank you
What brand of feed please, can you send me a photo.
Little tiny roaches with wings!😍🐣😆
Hi I live in northern va and the highest protein I can find which is in a turkey starter is 24% I can find 30% online but the shipping is more than the food it's seilf do you think 24% will be ok thanks
if it was me I would go with 24%. It will probably be fine. If you have some feed stores in your area you might ask if they can order in higher protein as part of their normal order. My feed store will do it for me.
Hi. I have 1 day old quails. I have the starter feed but they won’t eat or drink. They’re getting weak. I don’t know what to do.
That is very unusual. I don't think I have ever had that happen. i am afraid I don't know what advice to give you. I am sorry I can't help more.
Thanks Chris the main issue over here is that both turkey and game bird starter are very seasonal so id have to buy a years supply but even at that the shelf life is only about 3 months so its a loose loose situation for me if i want to hatch birds all year round.
you can buy pond fish food.(like for catfish)
its 30% i mix it 50/50.grind it.its about the size of a pea..and its about the highest protein you can buy.
13.00 for a 50 pound bag.it grinds easily.
im lucky as i got a 40s model big hobart coffee grinder.i grind all my corn and sunflowers in it as well
Hi Chris I live in Egypt my chicks r about to hatch and I can’t find any feed till I do what should they eat?
if you can't find gamebird starter you can use turkey starter or even chicken starter. If none of those are available you can get a regular chicken feed and grind it up. I hope that helps.
I live in Egypt too and I buy quail feed and grind it with egg shells
My quail are 3 weeks can I give them cucumber with some chick grit?
What brand name feed do give your adult birds.
I give all my birds game bird starter but it comes from a local feed mill. Really any brand is fine as long as it is about 25% or higher protein and has about 1.5% to 2.5% calcium.
Is 24% protein chicken starter feed okay for newly hatched button quail?
Or gamebird feed?
It is fine to feed them. It probably isn't the absolute best feed out there but they will do just fine on it if that is what you can get.
Hopefully it is just a one time thing.
yeah hope so
could be a bloody flux.
research colloidal silver as an antibiotic
actually, I think it is.
i make a super strong colloidal silver.
i have stopped a bloody flux.
and the green slimes.
and parvo in puppys.
in its tracks w colloidal silver.
jus youtube search "colloiidal silver generator"
and make your own.unless you want to pay 50.00$ a pind for crappy commercially made.
i can make a gallon in less than 3 hours.
best stuff in the world to keep around.
jus use pure silver.
and purified water at 12 volts.
watch numerous vids and get a consensus..as there many retards on youtube that dnt know what their talking about.
good luck
Can I feed them mealworms? How small would they have to be?
Oops. I am late responding to this comment but I actually just posted a video on that topic.
Oh no. Do you have them in a brooder box with a heat lamp?
Slightly Rednecked yes i do looks like they finally are not dieing and still have about half what i started with but they where way from a brooder for a wail so that might have something to do with it but am still excited about having them we got jumbo browns and texas A&M their is a learning curve with every thing but i wish i did not loss half of them.
Well I am glad to hear the problem has stopped.
Can cockatiels also eat this type of feed as well?
I don't know. I don't raise cockatiels. I think they need a different feed though.
No cockatiels cannot eat this. They have pellets made specifically for cockatiels that you can get at a number of pet stores. Do not feed cockatiels quail feed as they have different nutrient requirements.
But if it is ground up like powder, it clogs up there crow
Hi chris how can we tell california quail from male and female ?
Good tips. I only use these feeders for about a week then switch over to my other waste proof feeders.
How soon can you tell the Roosters from Hens
Walt Lars 3-4 weeks, u can't tell their sex at first
It depends on the kind of bird. For the standard browns at about 2 to 3 weeks once they fully feather out you can tell. The others you need to wait until they hit about 8 weeks and the roosters start crowing to vent sex them.
Walt Lars , Around 3 weeks .
Walt Lars , Unless you buy sex link eggs .Then you are able to tell sex as soon as quail hatch
sir m going to buy 200baby quails so which cage should i use any idea ?
Well whatever cage you can get together. You might have to break them up into two or three different cages. That many quail are going to need a fairly large cage. You need about 1 square foot per bird in cage space if you do raised cages. If they are on the ground you will need more space or the waste will build up quickly. If you plan on butchering at 8 weeks old you can get away with smaller space until then. I hope that helps.
It’s not true. When you had a failed hatch due to power going out for a day, and only had one make it to hatch, he has nobody else to teach him. It’s day 4 and he hasn’t eaten anything I force water down him.
Where to buy game bird feed?
Is 30% protein too high for quails?
30 percent is the max percentage and only use it for chicks; chicks need between 22- 30% protein and adults need 15- 20 percent protein
no. I use 30% for all my birds and they do great on it.
What is medicated feed even for
It is usually used in newly hatched chicks to help keep them from getting Coccidiosis. Most medicated feeds contain amprollium which is a thiamine analogue. You can look it up to get more info but it isn't what you usually think of when you think of medications (it isn't an antibiotic for example). Hope that helps.
Can I use chick starter?
Sure. I personally like a gamebird starter with a 25% or higher protein level but chick starter would work if that is what you can get.
The question is, what are you feeding your quail?
Would a chicken Broiler crumble feed at 20% protein be okay to feed throughout their life
It would work. I like a higher protein feed but you could use that if that is all you can get.
You can also supplement mealworms and other high protien things.
Allah bless.
hello i hope you see my comment my young baby quail accidentally get wet and i'm a first timer of this what you suggest? to do if ever that happen?
Thanks for all the info Brother!
lol. I will be sure not to mention it if I talk to her. :)
You have to grounder !!
Can I feed my quail chick chick starter?
Sure you can. It may not be the best for them because it is typically lower protein but it will work if that is all you can get.
I bought some baby quail they been dying on me temp100 degrees they have food and water not sure why is cause
Hey Chris are the schofeld quail hard to sex?
Thats alot for that small of a area for them
A lot of what exactly?
I feed mine bread crumbs
Nothing wrong with that but it should be a treat only and not their main diet. There isn't a lot of nutritional value in bread crumbs.
I never new Andrew Tate hatches quails
l don't like english
I am sorry to hear that. It is the only language I speak (at least fluently) so I am afraid that is what I have to shoot my videos in.
This guy doesn't know what he's talking about..any person that want to feed the smallest BN off quail would know maze meal is the best
By "this guy" you mean me. I would beg to differ. I have raised thousands of coturnix quail over the years. I think that qualifies me to know what I am talking about. And maize meal is just corn. It is not a good option for quail. They are omnivores and need much higher protein than what corn alone can provide.
@@Slightlyrednecked think what ever u like. No problem
