Have you come to a conclusion on this? You really have no choice in the Southern CA markets to go with hourly. If you don't, you won't make much money. SF drivers are a bit spoiled with the money per mile.
At $32 or more per hour, the rides that I am accepting are profitable. Especially if I keep the distance below about 25. I think the sweet spot is about 15 miles where the $/Hr and $/Mile are maximized. I'm still looking and gathering the data to make a final determination. Let me just say, this applies to the Bay Area and not the Sacramento market. I have not tried it in Sac to see if it works here or if the $/Hr needs to be higher or lower.
