Having spent many a happy holiday in Southwold as my two daughters were growing up, one of the most delightful things about the town is just about everything is within easy walking distance. If folk could get there by train they could leave their cars at home and take some of the pressure off the town during the peak season.

Meanwhile, walking from Southwold to Blythburgh is a pleasant excursion, with a fine pub at the end of the walk . . .

It is likely that Elgar used this railway (closed in 1928) when he visited Southwold
