I've been re watching Jenna and Julie's videos together and this just brings flashbacks of when julien over filled the deepfryer and got hot oil everywhere
The reason the shape of the spirals didn’t turn out is because you used the wrong blade attachment. You should have used the attachment with the medium thickness and had the least amount of spikes. (That kit should have came with 2 blades with spikes, one has more then the other) That should help with the shape. As for the batter I think you had it down but I would have added more liquid so that it wouldn’t turn into beer batter texture. This is how you ended up with onion ring chips. Too thin of potatoes with too thick of batter. But they sound good! Keep the potatoes coming!

hey julien, here's a potato tip for you! if you grow your potatoes in a bathtub instead of a pot, your potatoes will always be bathed! hope that helps 💛
julien, i hope you’ve learned by now that no matter how much your final product might not “look right”, fried potatoes are pretty much always gonna be good no matter what … they look good as hell idc if they don’t look the same as arby’s

Julien you soak potatoes as prep in order to get some of the starch out!! It helps them be more maleable and cooperative especially when you're making them into a specific shape like this. It's also better for frying, it makes them crispier. Idk the science but I make homemade fries all the time so I know some potato facts 👌
I think it just dries out the potato a bit when the starch is removed, so it's less like slime and more like play-doh in ✨viscosity✨ if that makes any sense

I think the recipe meant to use the kind of spiralizer that’s used to make zucchini noodles where the spiral part makes like a long spiral that’s kinda the width of a really thick spaghetti but not quite as thick as like an udon noodle. The kind Julen used is the kind that you use to like spiral cut apples lol

Absolutely love your content for many many years now, and since you love asian foods so much, I'm sure a Chinese stir-fried shredded potato dish (Tu Dou Si) will not disappoint you :) There are many different versions of it based on each Chinese region, but the sour and spicy ones (if I'm not mistaken its origin is from Si Chuan) are definitely my favorite! The texture of it is not starchy and slightly stiff, almost al dente. Really hope you give it a try and looking forward for more content of yours 💜 Sending love from Malaysia!

I am willing to make a lot thing's at home because they simply taste better at home plus you can control how much seasonings & oil is used BUT curly fries is something i'm more then happy to pay for especially those mouth drooling curly fries from Jack n Box again honestly worth then the pain of trying to make it yourself...
@mercedesvelasquez8781 yeah same. I've made regular fries and even that is a bit too much cleanup for me (all that grease!). Plus, im not going to buy special equipment for it. I buy frozen curly fries and put em in the air fryer. They're good lol. I'm sure Julien's are better though.

to help with the width of the potato once it has been spiraled, you could take a tall thin circular glass pressed onto the potato and use it to turn the one large “french fry” into two thinner ones- one with a small diameter and one with a large one. i hope i explained this well
