  • This video will tell how I prepared my racing celibate hens to win Back to Back Long Distance Combines. The thumbnail shows the great 321 the morning after the 507 mile. She won both 407 and 507 mile combines. My systems are designed for fanciers that want to win and may not have a lot of time. Racing Pigeons is not difficult if they have correct body weight, super health, condition and excellent pigeons. Racing my celibate hen system using my feeding, training and resting program has made the sport fairly easy. #pigeonracing #pigeons #racingpigeons #pigeonvideos #pigeons 2023 #pigeonlover

    May 6th All Flew 317 Miles in Six Hours. Upon return all the Versele Laga Energy, Traditional and Start Mix all day until I removed in the late afternoon. One gallon of water on return from race contained Avian Solution (Oregano) Roni, ½ tablespoon of honey, two teaspoons of Probios. "See Natural Health During Racing"
    Water: Following two days after race had Apple Cider Vinegar 1.5 ounces to the Gallon. Wednesday Red Cell Horse Vitamin One Teaspoon to Gallon Thursday Fresh water.
    Feed: Versele Laga Depure, Sunday to Wednesday. See Video ‘Feeding our Celibate Hens. Maybe Less than you Think’. Part 2 and Part 1
    Thursday Day of Shipping the hens had all they could eat of Versele Laga Energy mixed with Versele Laga Traditional. They ate loads of this combination.
    Exercise:
    Tuesday May 9th this was the hens only day out of the lofts all week. Flew 1.25 hours from 65 miles. One training flight leading up the 407 miles Race.
    407 Miles on Saturday May 13th. We 1st Combine with 321 and were 1st , 2nd and 3rd Club with 321, 388 and 2392. 327 and 486 were close but not right at the top. 321 was 14 minutes ahead of the club and over 2 minutes ahead of the combine against a wind that was not in our favor.
    321, 2392 and 486 went back to the 317 mile race on May 20th. 327 had a week off
    Water on day of return and during the week was the same as previous week. Feed: We shipped in the Friday so the hens ate Versele Laga Depure all week including day of shipping. We had a poor race. Truck Driver said birds broke up and some landed in trees upon combine liberation. Sounds like falcon attack at liberation.
    May 27th 507 Miles.
    Feed and water the same as previous weeks through Wednesday eve when we gave Versele Laga Energy day before shipping. Day of shipping all the Energy and Traditional Feed they wanted. Always fresh water the day of shipping.
    Training: 327 because of an off week had a 65 mile toss on Tuesday and the entire team went on a 35 mile toss on Thursday day of shipping for the 507 mile race. 327 was out of the loft two times during the week and 321, 436 and 2392 were out of the loft one time for about a 40 minute flight on day of shipping. No exercise or loft flying all week other than the one training flight between races.
    Results: 507 Miles May 27th. 321 won the combine by 16 minutes ahead of the next loft in the combine by over 16 minutes. Flying 11 hours and 20 minutes. 327 was 2nd Combine and was 13 minutes ahead of the next loft in the combine flying 11 hours and 23 minutes. 436 was 3rd Combine and was two minutes ahead of the next loft in the combine flying 11 hours and 34 minutes. 2392 was hit by a hawk and my last bird home. Her racing career might be over.
    McLofts 21 321 is 1st American Racing Pigeon Union All Distance Champion right now on June 4th
    These hens will rest until Tuesday June 6th and go one a 35 minute training flight and a 45 minute flight on Thursday June 8th. They will race again at 507 miles on June 10th with only two flights between races in two weeks.

    Thanks Frank for sharing and congrats on the great race results! I have a separate question if you don't mind: do you think it's necessary and helpful to pull 9th and 10th flights for YB season or it's just fine to race on natural system? Thanks! - Lawrence

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Рік тому +1

      I usually do not pull flights because I do not concentrate on racing young. I have a convention this fall and many of the pigeons will be molting the ninth and tenth flight at that time of the year. I will pull the ninth and tenth on the convention birds so the birds are not at a disadvantage. My suggestion would be to pull the flights so your pigeons will be more competitive at the end of the season.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Рік тому +1

      Best to start when they drop the first flight. They are now molting the wing normally and I begin. I cut the tip of the ninth flight when they drop the first flight and pull the flight ten days to two weeks later. You can certainly start later if you have time for the feathers to grow back.

    Hi Frank, just listened to this one a third time and wondered about barley. Do you mix the depuritive feed with barley for the celibate hens between races?

  • @arlensanchez9927
    @arlensanchez9927 Рік тому

    Hey Frank, Question for you.
    When you feed the Energy and Traditional mix on the day of shipping, considering you feed very light most of the times and the two mixes mentioned above are very heavy on proteins and fats, I would assume the bird gain extra weight going into the race truck.
    What are your thoughts?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Рік тому +1

      The pigeons do not gain any weight with a day of fat seeds or a day and a half of fat seeds. If I fed the fat seeds for three days they would put on too much bulk. No noticeable change in body weight feeding the fat seeds right before shipping. It is a fine line to give them the added fat reserves without adding extra bulk to the pigeons.

      Hi Kevin, When I feed for the long distance the day of shipping and maybe the day before shipping I give all they want. They probably eat three times the normal day amount of the fat seeds. My can I use holds about 25 ounces of depurative for 30 birds. That is fed daily but I do feed very heavy and all they can eat when I am loading fat. My 30 hens will eat maybe two or nearly three cans full of fat seeds on day of shipping for long races.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Рік тому +1

      Hello Pieter, I am not sure how well the Salmonella vaccines work because some vaccinated pigeons still come down with Salmonella. I still use the vaccines. I would look in the chicken industry and see if you can find a chicken salmonella vaccinate that can be placed in the water or on feed or given direct to the pigeons. This will offer some immunity. Over time if you work towards natural immunity and use less antibiotics the pigeons will become more immune to salmonella. Chickens, pigeons etc carry salmonella but if they are not stressed, have space and care is excellent salmonella is not too much of a problem.

    Do pigeons with twisted necks survive or should be eliminated??

    • @kerbyjackson88
      @kerbyjackson88 Рік тому +1

      Like an "S" curve in the neck? Years ago, some Birmingham Rollers appeared with distinct S curved necks. In that instance, it was found to be a simple Mendelian recessive gene. In otherwords, it was genetic. Unless you are interested in genetics, I would not keep it and I'd also be watchful of the parents, especially if the parents are related.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  Рік тому +2

      Are you talking about pigeons that have had Paramyxo Virus or PMV? They will be Okay to breed after they recover but the necks will never be perfect. They will be immune to PMV for life.

    • @abcloft302
      @abcloft302 Рік тому

      @@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons should I get it away from the rest of flock ?

    • @kerbyjackson88
      @kerbyjackson88 Рік тому +1

      @Abcloft302™️ Frank is right. It could also be PMV. If the bird was born with the twist in the neck, it's likely genetic. That sort of thing is called "Wry Neck" in poultry and it is very common in some breeds. It is much less common in pigeons, but it does appear from time to time. But, if the bird just suddenly developed it, it's likely PMV. You also tend to see tremors and weird mannerisms if the bird tries to fly. I've seen PMV afflicted birds fly backward, in addition to spinning in weird circles on the ground. Sometimes they'll walk around with their neck so skewed that they'll carry the head upside down. They used to call it "vertigo" in many older pigeon books. Birds can recover from PMV if they can manage to keep eating and drinking. Though they'll always display some side effect of the disease, as Frank mentions, they can reproduce and their offspring tend to have immunity. Personally, I think it's a good practice to segregate birds that show anything wrong with them. You can then send a fecal sample from the bird to most state university veterinary labs for analysis and they can often diagnose the issue from the droppings if it's disease related. I think that would be a good idea in your situation.
