As I have said before…Amazing and realistic. Now as for the tressal, it has to go. With the realism you have created the railroads hated bridges and tunnels unless absolutely necessary. I would suggest that a rock face that extends from your track to the lower level. Maybe with a roadway tunnel. Congratulations on 3 years. I loved every video. Keep up the great work.

As beautiful as that wooden trestle is, I’d like the land/structure plan. Trees would be a nice rest for the eye. Some clean, green stretches of life to contrast with the dreary city scape.

Jason, thank you for all your videos. I have learned so much on weathering buildings. As you said in this video, we improve over time, and I now look at some of my earlier buildings and think that I really need to either upgrade them, or replace them with something better.
As for the trestles - get rid of most (I am sure you will find somewhere else to eventually put them). I would leave just a short trestle near the corner, maybe over a creek that feeds into the harbour. It would also need another bridge for the road to cross the creek, but a little lower down. Perhaps the road could be heading down the hill to the area around the pier, winding down the valley side.

Jason Jensen: "Should I get rid of these trestles and add more structures?" Also, Cookie Monster: "Should I lose this broccoli for more cookies?" :) Congratulations on the anniversary! And Yes, you should get rid of the trestles and add more structures! Replace the trestles with one small and funky looking bridge, and fill in the rest with structures - you already know that's what you want to do.

Hi Jason ! What a wonderful documentary and prospect video again ! Thank You for that ! And the running train really still changes the arrangement into another quality ;) As to the trestle bridge: I at once had the idea to extend the harbor basin on the front edge of the layout to the backing "sky wall". Maybe let it lose a little width on the way to cause the illusion of depth ... The corner of the wall should be rather covered with structures to my mind to just avoid the hard vertical edge in the city: The bridge crossing the new "canal" or how You may call it may be either a trestle or a steel framework ...;) Since You already have some steel bridges and finished the nice trestle construction, a not so big rest of landscape left and right and a trestle might be better ;) Good luck, best wishes and may You always have a hand-width of water under the keel ! Best regards and thank You for the concentrated quality all the time !

Scratch building can be down on the cheap. For materials use chip board. That's the material that the backs of writing tablets and cereal boxes are made out of. Available from Hobby Lobby at about 4 bucks for a 36 x 48 inch sheet. Or close to that size. Or available from print shops. Windows and doors can be made from card stock with care.

Thanks to you Jason over these years for all of the techniques, tips, tricks and ideas you've given us and delivered with such patience and enthusiasm and entertainment. Also you asked for a thought on the trestle bridge at the back, I agree with your idea building up some kind of landscape but you could link the trestle bridge into some sort of preexisting remains of a brick or stone viaduct coming out of the bedrock that the trestle bridge was built to replace, it could add interest above and below on your layout. As always thank you for sharing not only your layout but your sci-fi room too. 👍❤️

Jason, wow only three years to get a train running! Not bad dude, not bad. Seems like filling in that doorway really did give you the extra boost you were needing. It's been a fantastic story you've been telling us. And it's looking great. The running train sure makes it all come alive. You are so right, the slow speed really pulls you eye into the townscape.
Now, well you asked: 10:30, that is a big gap in the town. If you leave the (very lovely, admittedly) wooden trestles, it takes up a lot of space. Seems to me that the urban setting really does need to stretch further round/back - I'm sure you will find some other place to use them. So yup, you should fill it in some. And trees are always good, love them trees.
Seeing the whole place laid out, and please don't take this the wrong way, it seems like the buildings so far are mostly commercial? Fair enough, it's a dockside setting, and OK some folks are probably living 'above the shop', but where do all the rest of the folk live? You have a lot of eat-out places but nowhere for their customers to come from! I guess it makes sense that there is little 'sea-front property' in this time period, but I think they'd be living only a couple of streets back? And whilst I'm not going to labour the point, you has some nice towers and turrets, but seemingly no steeples or bell towers, in fact no churches, chapels or mission halls at all? I should have thought there might be a few (if only for their architectural outlines, if not for their full on worship potential!!!) But, I'm still loving it all.
"Sit down, sit down sit down, now Chazzy you're rocking the boat!"
Looking forward to those next three (five) years.

In a lot of cases the rail tracks were there before any buildings were erected, sometimes built up around the shanty towns that housed the railroad builders. Really like your approach to how the work on the model has progressed, and with that comes a suggestion - an area where buildings were once there but were demolished to allow for the tracks to pass through - the progression of the railroad company means money in the pockets of the land owners (regardless as to the fate of any tenants) or even a little scene whereby a building is in the process of demolition (for 'supposed' expansion of the line), amazing how much detail can be added to a building being knocked-down, only need to look at military dioramas that depict such scenes. Keep up the good work.

Amazing what you've achieved, and inspired me to do, in only! three years.
I think keeping part of the trestle (probably the darker curved section) and building up the land for more buildings where the lighter sections is currently is a good idea. A valley would need the trestle, but more real estate needs you to populate it with buildings - and we all hate ;-) watching you build stuff!!!
I know you don't need me to tell you about scales and perspective, but I've used some buildings in approximately 3mm/1ft scale (TT or table top scale in the UK) to force perspective on a hillside as I don't have the depth to get away with N scale structures.
Fortunately, for us too, a layout is NEVER finished.....and you still have more to do on your sci-fi room, including G scale "trains"!

Congratulations on your 3 year anniversary Jason.
I love the layout and especially the structures. Ok, I have to ask. Since you have so many buildings completed, have you ever thought of putting a small camera on the front of the engine and see what the engineer would see? You should put an engineer in the engine, and caboose. Just a suggestion. Definitely not a command. That would be awesome to see a video of what it looks like from the trains point of view.
I've learned so much from watching your videos. It crosses over to 1/35 scale.
Your work is phenomenal and well worth the praise you get for it.
Where do you get your model kits? I'd like to try one and see how it goes. Thanks for sharing your videos, your expertise, and knowledge. Congratulations on a job well done.

Wow! I just went over to George's channel and looked at a few minutes of his layout tour part 2. It made my eyes pop out on stems!
Now I understand why you said it would likely take at least 5 more years to bring your layout close to completion.
How exciting it is going to be to watch you these next number of years, and it has always been exciting to see what you will do next.
    Thank you very much Jason!

Congrats Jason! Amazing journey so far and looking forward to the rest.
I think shorten the bridge and find a way to include a dramatic rocky mountainous outcropping on one side and more structures on the other. Would really love to see how you juxtapose a rocky cliff side terrain with the waterfront.

Ok, Jason, we vote for shortening the bridge so you have room for additional modeling. That would give us a few more builds to see. (Purey selfish on our part) Keep up the great work.

Observations: This is absolutely a railfan's layout. Running trains is not as important as watching them run here. Nothing wrong with that especially as your trains are going to be running through a very rich urban waterfront landscape. The influence of George Sellios is obvious, but the direction is somewhat different without the large number of really big buildings- a refreshing change. All in all, the very "reverse" planning process has gotten you just where you wanted to go. Absolutely superb result.
Land or tall trestle? Good question. I might lean toward the trestle surrounded by a cluster of shacks, perhaps on ground rising behind the trestle.

Hello and congratulations Jason..there Is a lot od what I would like to write, but my not so good english Is problem..😀 As for The George Sellios layout you Are right.I saw it for The first time on UA-cam about seven years ago and it completelly changed my view to how to build my slot car layout..I started from the beginning And abou three years ago I find out your Channel and it inspired me And made me sure, that it is really the right way how to build it..I have send you some pictures (for example your Diner, that I remaked to 1:43scale) And You answered me..that Is what I appreciate.. thank You very much..And as for your question about how to make the corner with the high bridge.. I think we feel it the same way:"Cut the bridge shorter And make more buildings..that is what we love most!"😀...so.. sorry for my bad english, but I'm sure You understand all.Wishing You all the best to every single day of building the layout (And life od course),stay motivated and happy modelling, Jason!
