    I've said it before and I'll say it again: if the only way you can make the girl the lead in a boy-and-girl team is to butcher the boy, deny him equal chance, and remove him from crucial moments, you're not writing a feminist story with a woman in the lead - you're implying that the only reason she's in the lead is because the guy's never given a chance

    • @dragonmaster1360
      @dragonmaster1360 5 місяців тому +123

      @split776
      Eh... Ironically, that IS a feminist story. Modern feminism (and arguably ALL feminism) has always been girl power at the EXPENSE of men. It's just more blatant and obvious today than it was way back then. Even feminists from the 60s, back when it was "good" feminism, noticed that their efforts were causing harm to men and young boys (particularly in the school system, where boys were being abandoned), and did NOTHING to stop it because they benefitted GREATLY from it.
      So no, this absolutely is a feminist story. It's almost the ideal feminist story. All the girls are BA butt kickers who are idolized and given all the credit, while all the guys are inferior in nearly every way, sidelined, akumatized, or straight villains. It's perfect feminism.

    • @skyworld3393
      @skyworld3393 5 місяців тому +349

      100% agreed. Misandry can actually circle back to misogyny. It implies that the girl cannot truly stand on her own without bringing the boy down. She should be able to stand out on her own, even with a strong male character alongside.

    • @skyworld3393
      @skyworld3393 5 місяців тому +268

      @@dragonmaster1360 There's a strong debate on what feminism mean that I don't think can be resolved in a UA-cam comments section. All I'll say is that I'm gonna have to agree to disagree with you as the definition of feminism that I follow is equally for people regardless of sex. As I mentioned in an earlier response in this thread, misandry can circle back to misogyny, it's the same vice versa. Men who show anything that is even slightly associated as feminine is ridiculed and shunned. It's a double-edged sword.
      It should be called out about how historically and even to today how women are treated in society and work for better change. But at the same time, we can also advocate for men to express themselves without being ridiculed on how they express their masculinity. Hyping up women and always regrading men is not what REAL feminism is, in my opinion.

    In the origins episode, cat noir was the one shining. He was a natural. Sure he took more risks, but that’s part of the job. Meanwhile ladybug was stumbling, running from the job. Only in the end did she get around to it and pulled the finishing plan.
    Yet all the credit just clings to her, despite the fact she was barely seen in action and the one who was fighting the monster all along was standing right there. Remember this is the first time anyone has seen them, they don’t have an already built bias towards the girlboss of the duo.

      I've been saying this since like season 3 or 4. But ADRIEN SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE MAIN CHARACTER. Or at least have Marinette and Adrien switch life situations. It's not even anything about not providing the female empowerment Thomas says he wants to portray. I'm female myself. And tbh I didn't even know that was supposed to be one of the main points of the show until the start of season 5 when someone mentioned it in a video I watched. Adrien is genuinely just more interesting with the problems with his father, having to grieve his mother which we barely see, AND THE DRAMA THAT COULD HAPPEN IF GABRIEL AND ADRIEN DISCOVERED EACH OTHER'S IDENTITIES OMG WHY DIDN'T THAT HAPPEN?! (Pardon me. I will just forever be salty). Compared to Marinette who's just a high school girl with a crush and aside from being Ladybug actually has a relatively normal life like the intro even says it's just... why. Funny thing is: Sailor Moon was actually written like fanfic too. The author said that while coming up with the characters, she basically wanted to create an imaginary group of friends for herself. The difference to ladybleb is, that Naoko Takeuchi loved the entire main cast and and wanted to be friends with ALL OF THEM, wich is why the entire group gets some fucking development.
    Writing a show as basically wish fulfillment for yourself isn't bad, as long as you're a competent writer.

    • @pumbhax
      @pumbhax 5 місяців тому +85

      Unlike Astruc whose only child is Marinette (please do not consider a fictional character your daughter)

    • @Yamainthejar
      @Yamainthejar 5 місяців тому +175

      So...this isn't actually true. At all. The reason Sailor Moon kicks off with a solid story arc is because Naoko had a definitive set of ideas for the type of series she wanted to create, and it wasn't just conceived as a wish fulfillment fantasy. In interviews Naoko explicitly stated that she wanted to write a series about a group of girls in outer space. In her interview for Animerica Magazine in vol. 4 back in 1996 she mentions that she would discuss *with her real life friends* how they didn't want to be dependent on men and that Naoko felt women are actually stronger. Which is something she wanted to incorporate into Sailor Moon. Hence the female-centric cast.
      So this lady wasn't a lonely gal with nobody around her that decided to "create an imaginary group of friends for herself". The quote that was attributed to her about being "in a low place" and writing about girls she wished were her friends has never been provably linked to her in any of the rare interviews she's given. Any research into the quote suggests it was entirely made up but because it got viral, people keep mistakenly claiming those words to be hers.
      This isn't an attack on you btw, I completely agree with the claim that even if you're writing wish fulfillment stories it doesn't mean they can't be well-written or engaging. But referring to Sailor Moon as fanfic material is off base.

      evolution was a great example of it with how their future selves appeared before them clearly chasing down Monarch yet they chose to do the same exact actions that led to that moment.
      To add onto this Bunnix is the greatest example of perfect time travel she existed as her adult self ever since her past and her appearance triggered every right decision that led up to young Alix to be given the miraculous she then grows up fights time tagger her miraculous breaks and is flung to the past she preserves herself and the watch as heirlooms that eventually get passed down to her, the miraculous is repaired and continues with it she never exchanges it for the past version and have it age endlessly in a loop
      Cat Blanc is the worst way to use time travel cuz Ladybug can't temporarily create a world with her decisions leading to unintended consequences fix it then make it cease to exist by changing the outcome by forcing your past self to change their mind

      on one hand i feel like fandoms do end up doing a better job than the actual canon writers in most situations because being delivered the final product you can see and pinpoint the faults and what you would prefer to see/what would work better, especially since it's a much larger audience than test screenings and such, so it just kinda makes sense, especially because no matter how well you write you can never predict with 100% accuracy what people want to see and what they will get attached to
      on the other hand, miraculous got fumbled SO BAD that i'm surprised the fandom has been stubborn enough to stick around to begin with and even most amateur writers could probably put together something better written. i've only watched a few episodes here and there whenever they popped up on tv and i was genuinely so interested that i hate how bad it turned, especially because goddamn cat noir's design is so good, the temptation to pick up one of the many fandom rewrites or just fanfiction in general instead of the actual show even with how little i remember by now is so strong

    Thomas Astruc is a huge narcissist who treats Marinette like she's his own daughter, which is highly disturbing. He treats Marinette like the golden child, while everyone else is left in the dust. He also doesn't care about the people who work on his show as seen in "Animaestro" and the points discussed in the video in regards to that episode in particular. He is an incompetent writer, and an even worse person in real life because his favorite pastime is bullying people who don't see things his way. He is a cyberbully who will go out of his way to make others miserable because they don't share the same delusions he has about animation. The continuity is disregarded in favor of shipping and character assassination, not to mention his deranged and psychotic views on child abuse and trauma. It leads me to believe he may have narcissistic personality disorder along with a combination of other mental illnesses, and he needs to be institutionalized. He's just sick in the head.

      A lot of people treat their OCs like their own children. Out of all things to criticize Thomas, I don't this one's fair, especially with how people always take the ex-girlfriend thing out of context to make it sound creepy. Marinette just happened to be created back when they were together, so Thomas said the character felt like their virtual child to him. It conveys a very different feeling from saying he actually based his OC on the hypothetical child of someone who isn't in a relationship with him.
      The first one is like someone associating a movie with their happy childhood memories because they happened at the same point in their life. The second sounds like a creep who can't give up on a past relationship and made a fanfic about their non-existent child.

      @@mercerfrey6392 Chloe was never stated to be based on his bully, just like Marinette wasn't based on an imaginary child of his ex. It's only a popular speculation among fans because Thomas seems to particularly hate her. I dislike how he treats the show's fans on Twitter and his behavior is unprofessional, but I find it unfair when people make up things to make him look worse.
      And tbh, if he REALLY was bullied, that actually gives him a valid reason for his dislike about the character (doesn't justify him being a bad writer and immaturity on Twitter). I don't get why the MLB fandom use this speculation as a reason for why he's worse when I've seen other fandoms do the same. If Thomas hates on Chloe for no particular reasons related to trauma, then that actually makes him the manchild. There are better criticisms about how he handles Chloe.
      Like, I was in the My Hero Academia fandom and you'd see how much the bully character was hated (before his redemption arc) by fans more than the actual villains. It's like somehow worldwide destruction is ok but a 14 year old bully is worse. But a lot of times it's because those fans had similar experiences of bullying and abuse. Many have projected their own trauma onto the main character and made revenge fantasy fanfics. To this day, there still exists haters who complain that the bully got redeemed.

      It's like Marinette is Astruc's golden child, and believe you me, if you were to ask my mom, she'd know what it's like to have a golden child in the family. She doesn't have contact with her family anymore (thank God), and the golden child in question is currently in prison for drug charges and even once died of an overdose but got revived. In my opinion, he should have stayed dead, but for whatever reason, my mom's sisterly love for that bastard got in the way of me expressing this to her.
      But getting back on topic, it is no doubt that Marinette is Astruc's golden child while Chloe is the scapegoat. This is in and of itself a problem, but it becomes more heightened when you take into account that there are real life golden children and scapegoats who know what it's like to be treated as the favorite while the other is completely tossed aside and blamed for things they didn't even do. It hurts. A *lot.* I've read reddit stories where the golden child is treated as the good and virtuous saint that can never do anything wrong and that everything they do is good, regardless of it hurts other people or not, and 99.9999% of the time, the golden child turns out to be a complete and utter asshole. Meanwhile, the scapegoat is often ridiculed, betrayed, and even abused for simply existing, being blamed for other people's actions, and never having any character growth of their own, because in the eyes of their abusers, they will never be good people, and if they try to be good, they'll only be doing it for the attention it brings. And the scapegoat turns into a traumatized individual with a virtually non-existent self-esteem, and will have a hard time recovering from the trauma of being the scapegoat if they can't escape it. It's extremely awful, and it is not something for anyone to be wishing on their worst enemies.
      Abuse is never something you should be wishing on your worst enemy, yet that's exactly what happened to Chloe in the episode "Revolution". It's deranged and fucked up, and I think Thomas Astruc is sick for allowing this to happen. He needs help. Lots of it. And maybe some medication while we're at it.

    Something worth noting is how the show doesn't go anywhere other than the basic level of the lucky vs unlucky concept of their miraculous. They stop at 'Chat Noir gets hit by the enemies power and Ladybug doesn't' understanding of this, instead of putting it on different aspects of their superhero persona and how it could shape their development: Marinette could be clumsier in normal life because she slowly grows used to the luck of her miraculous and has to work through that. Chat Noir has to work on thinking more and be less reckless because otherwise he will get screwed over by his miraculous, which could make him become more analytical and it could translate to him as Adrien being more capable of dealing with his father and potentially using this new found talent to figure out he's a sentimonster on his own.

Astruc simply cannot see his precious daughter do anything wrong, and he cannot stand the idea of Adrien actually being competent. I hate how overpowered the Ladybug miraculous is. The first reply is right, what does creation of to do with purification? The show should have addressed it, or better yet, make the miraculous of the black cat some how involved in the process? Because if Ladybug literally has three different powers, that just makes her more powerful than Chat Noir, and they are supposedly "equals". Also, can the show just address the lucky charm just being a cheat code to winning? Like, that just makes Ladybug invincible.

If someone dies or a building is destroyed it stays that way, the most it could maybe do would be to take away the magical effects of the akuma (like transforming people like Reflekta does), though I'd think this would work better for Chat Noir, I could get behind it being Ladybug's power of the purification of the akuma was Chat Noir's power.

      Thomas Ass truck has the nerve to say that Chloe isn’t abused or traumatized in any way.
      If you wanna know his exact words, here are what he said in those tweets:
      “You state many false things: That she was abused by her mother, that she showed that she can change, etc. I don’t think that’s what depicted in the show.”
      “Your reasoning is biased in many points. Chloe isn’t an abused child. She’s not been traumatized in any way. Like many kids in the world and many characters in the show, one of her parents left. That’s all. Do other characters behave like her because of this? No.”
      “Abusive family? No. She’s not an abused child. Desire to help people? Never seen that. No attention in home? Her father and the butler are always there for her. You want to see her better than the show depicts her.”
      “Word it as you want. It doesn’t make her an abused child. There’s at least her father, the Butler, Sabrina and Adrien that care for her. No one forced her to act like she does. It’s her choice.”
      I can’t- this man is just so tone deaf and out of touch, it makes me livid. He genuinely does not understand the first thing about trauma or the impact of abuse & neglect. Whenever I see people talk about Chloe and her botched redemption arc, there's almost always someone who'll point out that not every character can be redeemed. Which, is true. A character, and a person, has to recognize they're a bad person before they can start to become better, they must put in the effort to change and hopefully earn the forgiveness from those they're hurt. And while I get where these people are coming from, I also have to point out that Gabriel was right there. They could've paralleled each other as their arcs went on.
    Chloe recognizes her shitty behaviour, perhaps through realizing how she's mimicking her mother who treats her like garbage, and so tries to change. Because she doesn't want to be like her mother, she wants to be better. Someone who people care about, like her hero Ladybug. And so she has to dismantel her whole persona, build it from the ground up into something she can be proud of. Fight tooth and nail to prove to herself and everyone around her that she is a good person, she can be better.
    And then you'll have Gabriel. Who's cold and cruel to his own son and so blindsided by his own goal that he doesn't care who he'll end up hurting. Perhaps Natalie will stay by his side, and try over and over to snap him back to reality. Give him countless opportunities to be and do better. But Gabriel never takes them, because he doesn't see any problems with how he is. He has no reason to change.
    Miraculous Ladybug has had so many opportunities to make a great story, but time and time again they fail. I'm so glad I dipped when I did.

    so i'm in at 1:24:20 and i'm not sure if you mention this in the video but i wanted to take a break to write down my thoughts and point out how Marinette basically became a second GABRIEL. Whenever Adrien DARES to be emotional (often as Chat Noir) she cannot handle it, but when he's a submissive people pleaser who pushes down his own needs for hers, he becomes the ideal partner that she would rather keep. IT'S ALSO IMPLIED that with Shadybug and Griffth Noir, due to Emodrien having a kinder father in this universe, it implies that Adrien NEEDS to be abused otherwise he'll become the psycho he's portrayed as in this special. So to have this sweet, perfect, kind Adrien, he NEEDS to be emotionally neglected, and that Marinette has been perfectly playing the part by being so self-centered and inconsiderate of his autonomy, she can't even be bothered to break the fact to him that he's a SENTIMONSTER. This goes for Felix too who was retconned to be sympathetic despite literally berating Adrien and looking down on him and then having the excuse of "I want to protect my loved ones. Oh but I won't tell Adrien something as important as the fact that his life is tied to a ring that controls his every move."

    • @scarletgiry3958
      @scarletgiry3958 5 місяців тому +80

      I felt this. I remember watching Kuro Neko for the first time and honestly being happy that Adrien was FINALLY getting some focus. But even then I found the writing choice to completely sidestep the actual problem and have it just boil down to "Chat's in love with Ladybug" so bizarre. It's an inherent problem the show has with not having Marinette actually confront anything really. Like we waited and waited for her big confession to Adrien and the writers just didn't let it happen. Throughout the show I've been starving for some development of the lore, some investigation into who Hawkmoth is, something! In terms of lore all we've really gotten was Fu's lame backstory, Alya giving Marinette the answer which is still woefully underdeveloped, and Felix just telling Marinette who Hawkmoth was. I don't get why we don't get Marinette being more proactive, the writers made her so smart and yet outside of a lucky charm, don't do anything with that. I can deal with Marinette not knowing how to deal with Adrien's feelings as long as they eventually move past that, develop their relationship in a meaningful way, and have them both grow as individuals. I'm still hopeful for season 6, I personally wouldn't go as far as to call Marinette a second Gabriel but I definitely see where you're coming from, I hope they don't continue down this path for her cuz it's really not a good look.

    • @ectornale
      @ectornale 5 місяців тому +50

      I disagree actually. The reverse special Adrien still has an abusive father, but one who unintentionally neglects instead of intentionally. Gabriel is altruistic to the point where he abandons his own life in pursuit of justice, but not in a way that shows him grieving, which in turn made Adrien feel abandoned and felt like his dad never cared enough about his mom to grieve with him, so he ended up like this. OUR Adrien, saw the opposite, he saw Gabriel's grief suck the life out of him, and he was afraid of turning out like that, and also felt bad for him, so he decided to better himself both for his own sake and his dad's. Both versions were abused, but circumstances change a person.

      Plus, although he's an exaggerated jerk in his introductory episode, it did feel implied it was out of bitterness. The first line he spoke to Adrien literally sets up his daddy issues. They're close enough be having fun together as kids and for Adrien to trust him. When Felix was mocking all of Adrien's friends, seeing Marinette confess made him sad for a brief moment before going back into douchebag mode. Nathalie is hands-down my favorite character, and one of the best-written characters in the series. Like her character progression is solid once they start developing her further, from her showing unwavering devotion to the family she loves through donning the peacock miraculous while knowing full well of the consequences, all the way to season 5 where Gabriel shows his ass and Nathalie finally has enough of him, she turns on him and only pretends to continue getting along with him for Adrien's sake. And then all of this culminates in her taking matters into her own hands, realizing SOMETHING needs to be done about Gabriel, and she can't wait any longer. Even when she's sick and on the brink of death, she aims her crossbow at him and tries to take him out, her last words are her helping Marinette and asking her to keep Adrien safe. They could've done SO much more with Mayura, especially since she's one of the most visually pleasing villains in the series. For example, why they're even kept in the Miracle Box and how the Peacock Miraculous was broken in the first place. What if because they bond with someone based purely on how in touch they are with what the Kwami represents, even bad people can become Miraculous holders, the Miracle Boxes were created to prevent the kind of chaos that super-powered villains would cause by sealing away the Kwamis ability to choose a holder? And what if Emilie was improperly bound to Duusuu because she didn't represent Emotion and this broke the Peacock Miraculous, slowly killing her?
    Heck, it would even be interesting if because the Kwamis choose based on who best fits their domain, Marinette doesn't know who's behind the mask, thus creating different dynamics between the heroes.

    I honestly feel like Chloe was trying to be the 'sissy' (code lyoko's secondary antagonist) of MLB. Seeing as astruc was a story board artist for season one of that show, it's not a stretch he might of tried to implement elements from that show, with out realizing what made sissy a good antagonist in the first place.
    Let me break down how Chloe and sissy are eerily similar. Both have fathers with some power over the people around them, both are dramatic diva's who are in love with one of the main protagonists, and both have an ego. Where sissy LEAPS ahead in progress is that she has actual moments of humanity that is sprinkled through out her character. Her father doesn't always bend to her every whim like chloe's seems to. Her obsession with ulrich is honestly better developed as just a teenager who has a massive crush, the only difference with chloe here is sissy was never friends with ulrich, let alone childhood friends. It comes off as strange that chloe disregards Adrian so many times and invades his space with out one consideration these two have known each other since they were toddlers.
    Sissy even has a moment like chloe where she admits she just wants to be part of the group and is curious as to what their up to. But it's blatantly clear she is not in the right considering her methods. either to impress her crush who has an obvious dislike of her, to her consistent berating of other female characters. Hell she blackmails ulrich at some point with his own journal to get him to hang out with her, with out truly understanding what that journal contains.
    I'd also like to point out that code lyoko's stakes are a lot heavier and grounded compared to MLb's...blatant cartoonish nature, even when it tries to be serious. CL's villian isn't even a person per say, it's a virus with some sentience that tries to literally murder the main cast on multiple occasions. I will not deny Cl has massive flaws but compared to MLB it's kind of sad how blatant astruc's inspiration is, along with the fact he took the inspiration with out understanding why said element worked.

    I agree very much about Adrien/Cat Noir being a waster character.
    In the first season he seemed cool and fun. He would put on a record of him playing the piano in order to run from home to watch a movie about his mom, he used to confront his father when he wanted something. But as the story progressed, he’s really become a puppet. He would only be like “Yes father”, “No father” and “I trust you Lady Bug”. And in the end of the show when he doesn’t even get the chance to confront his father… this is like going back to square one.

    There's so many valid reasons and Adrien/Chat Noir's character is the main reason for me. Personally, the season 5 finale was the final straw. I did notice how much Adrien/Chat Noir was put on the backburner and being 90% useless since season 1 and Princess Frangrance and Puppeteer were my least favorite episodes because of the trend of him getting affected by an akuma. Dark Cupid was actually the very first episode I've seen of Miraculous ever and I feel like doing it at least once is fine to explore that concept, but it got old really fast later on and just roll my eyes and think "aw shit, here we go again".
    I was hoping the show would address it and they kind of did, but nothing changed. The show is too hooked onto the status quo and I've lost hope. I did enjoy Zag's feature film (albiet not a "masterpiece", but I enjoyed it a lot more than the show). To be honest, this show just breaks my heart because of the potential it had. I truly was a huge fan of the show since 2017 and I guess I'm mourning all the time I've invested in hyping about the show just to be left with constant disappointments until it was too much to even continue watching the show. Ugh, I'm trying to spare a long rant, but it is a long video, so 😂 Master Fu didn't even give Chat Noir a chance. I got tired of Ladybug constantly keeping him in the dark, even indirectly as Adrien (when she still didn't know his identity). We've already seen from Cat Blanc on why they can't know each other's identities too soon and Hawkmoth akumatizes him. It could've been so rewarding to show how much more he's grown and be one of the few people who can resist becoming akumatized. Especially with how often he gets affected by an akumatized villain's powers. And of course of Ladybug and Chat Noir get those twin rings that holds his amuk somehow--

And then he lost. With the information on how to fix the broken Peacock, they could have conceived Adrian without anyone having to die.
      Gabriel Agreste was a madman. We wanted Adrien to be happy and have his mother back, but went so deep into villainy to achieve that goal that he lost all the morality that could have made it worth it in the first place. He lost sight of what mattered and just chased the goal so it all became selfish.
      I think at the very end he changed so fast because he had to. He found out the Emily expressly said that she would not want to be revived. Once he knew she would not want to live with him he decided he would rather be with her in death than live without her. He had already prepared to die that day if he didn't win, and the wish had to be made right then. There was no time for thinking. He decided to do the selfish thing and leave Adrien behind instead of still trying to raise him and asked Marinette to make that awful promise that will surely blow up their relationship at the beginning season 6 when Lila in her new disguise gets a chance to tell Adrien the truth. Which will be weird, since she used to do all her damage with lies, so doing it with the truth will be a change of pace for her haha.
      It was good that he brought Natalie back, though. Someone had to live if he was going to die, so Natalie got to live. I think in that last scene it was probably Felix's mom by the pool and not Emily.

    I get what you're trying to say and mostly agree with you, but the "sexist against men" accusations have always rubbed me the wrong way. It's just plain sexist. Marinette is not a real girl, she's a girl written by some guy that thinks fourteen-year-olds can be (and are!) irredeemable. The obsessiveness, the stalking, and all of Marinette's other weird behavior is just another facet of the male fantasy, not like a real character with investment from the writing room (cough cough sorry, the writer). The obsession and focus on Marinette doesn't feel feminist in any way, it feels like a new warping of the male gaze. After all, if Marinette is written so that some guy can imagine a girl obsessed with him/justify his own obsessions with "it's not creepy when a girl does it!" then of course Adrien as an afterthought in the story-- he's a stand-in, he's a placeholder. Every other girl/woman in the series is there to make waifu Marinette look good, either by contrast or comparison, and every boy/man is a plot vehicle to make Marinette look principled and/or desirable.
    I saw a comment saying that Astruc seems to view Marinette like his own daughter. Given that Astruc has admitted to NEVER getting over his middle school bully, I've always had the feeling it's more dark and disturbing than that. To the point I'm surprised Astruc didn't age himself down to 14 when he animated himself into the show.
    Long way to say, this isn't "feminist", "sexist against men," whatever. It's just men writing women poorly-- now they're also just writing men poorly too. Feminism = equality, and this ain't that by a long shot despite it's gaslight gatekeep girlboss aesthetic trying to convince you otherwise.

    No but like for me, there is also NO STAKES ONESOEVER TO THE SHOW, because we are literally told, “the only limit to what you can create is yourself marinette!”. Like. Okay then, by that logic, why not make a button that when clicked, teleports the butterfly miraculous to you. Why not magically create a box that hides and makes the miraculous box inaccessible to everyone but you? Why not create ITEMS THAT HAVE MIRACULOUS POWERS. at that point, why can’t she control what she gets out of her lucky charm like shadybug?! If the only limit is herself then why!?! Shadybug literally made a butterfly tracker in the special. Like dude. if she can make something that completely repels and nullify’s the butterflies power, then what the point. Not to mention mega kumas are literally no different other than they can break through that magic. It’s just to make marinette look cool. Why couldn’t she just create a charm that defeats megakumas too?? If the only limit IS HER OWN IMAGINATION. like please… the power system WHY. It’s so dumb. Like why should I care about any plot line when marinette is canonically so over powered. It feels like Thomas went, “well we can’t have other characters have or be better at using powers than marrinette, so we will just give her the power to create LITERALLY ANYTHING INCLUDING SAID POWERS just in case I get upset over her not being literal god.” That tacked on with the fact she seemingly has no limits to the amount of miraculous she can wear realllly brings it all together. And for anyone thinking, “well she did collapse!” That had absolutely no meaningful payoff and I bet it never will with her 🫠 plot armor who?

    Chloe is my favorite character in the series. Astruc only meant for her to be an expy of someone he doesn't like, so he only made her a bully that doesn't get what she wants, but when other, more competent writers got ahold of her character, they built something solid! She is the most complex character with a very well defined arc and the one who goes through the most changes in the entire series; even after season 5 ended no other character had the same quality writing she had (until Astruc ruined her).
    The worst part is, there are kids out there on the same shoe as Chloe, with neglectful parents that refuse to acknowledge them and be present in their lives. The lesson they could have learned from Chloe's story was that your messed up upbringing isn't justification for you to treat others with disrespect and that you can become someone better and worth of respect if you focus on doin the right things out of kindness and not out of approval. But by backtracking her character entirely, Astruc made Chloe's entire redemption arc mute and insinuated kids in a similar situation to Chloe are undeserving of love!
    Can imagine how a child abandoned by their parents would feel seeing Astruc telling them they're undeserving of love?

      @@TwilightWolf032 Chloe genuinely tried to change. Chloe had a chance even after Miracle Queen. But Astruc had to put in every last chance to ruin her character.
      One way to write Chloe's redemption arc, from the end of season 3 is to still include Miracle Queen, however, don't include the scene after Chloe was akumatized. Make Ladybug mad at Chloe, but Chloe would actually apologize and try to do better. Ladybug would then say she can't give her miraculous back until further notice. Still introduce Zoe, but set her up to be the good butterfly miraculous holder once Monarch is defeated (as you can see, I have very different plans for the story). Then, in Sole Crusher, Ladybug can reluctantly give Chloe back her miraculous to help defeat her half sister and they can make up at the end of the episode.

    • @TwilightWolf032
      @TwilightWolf032 4 місяці тому +4

      @@pumbhax I would play things differently. Hawkmoth took advantage of Ladybug's wekenesses - her obsessive crush on Adrien leading her to forget to detransform when meeting Fu and her choosing Kagami over Chloe to save her parents -, yet it was Chloe who had to pay the price.
      When Chloe got akumatized, she did it to save her parents - the deal was that she would turn into Miracle Queen and he would undo the akumatization on her parents, a decision she came to after she saw Ladybug choose Ryuko over Queen Bee.
      Chloe has abandonment issues thanks to her neglectful mother and weak father, and Ladybug had been making excuses to not let Chloe fight and even kicked her out of the team a few episodes prior despite Chloe proving with every new appearance (that wasn't written by Astruc) that she was becoming better by the day. I would heavily capitalize on that by making Ladybug snap at Queen Bee after she turned back, for daring to use the Miraculous again after she strictly said she would never be allowed to again (obviously an emotional response to all the stress of the fight, watching Master Fu "sacrifice himself", and having to deal with the fact Adrien is dating someone else now). THAT would lead Chloe to snap and try to use all the Miraculous against her, because she felt betrayed by Ladybug, and the Kwamis giving her the cold treatment we saw in that episode.
      That's how Chloe would have been unable to be Queen bee again in my version, instead of her just deciding to be evil after being deakumatized for no reason other than Astruc wanted her to be evil. Then we could work on some more unfair treatments for her, like some people recording Chloe trying to use the Miraculous against Ladybug and Chat Noir without any of the context, tarnishing her reputation, so she can't even leave her hotel room without being treated like a criminal by the furious population of Paris (like being booed and have tomatoes thrown at her), and even her father can't do anything about it with his mayor powers because his daughter's "antics" have caused him to lose support of the police force as well. To make things worse, Audrey gives her the "I knew you weren't exceptional" speech she's so good at and we introduce Zoey as the sister Chloe never knew she had and neither did her father. With this, not only is she unwelcome in the public, but she sees Zoey as the daughter that stole her mother's love and her father is too distraught about his place in the government and Audrey's cheating to pay attention to his daughter in need of actual love.
      From there I can see two branching paths: one where Chloe becomes vengeful and sides with Hawkmoth to take Ladybug down, essentially taking Lila's role as the one to manipulate people behind the scenes using disguises, and another one where she starts interacting with different people from her class. Obviously I'm a fan of the second option.
      In this case, I would make Sabrina ditch Chloe for her tarnished reputation and just overall being unsafe being near her, but due to circumstances Chloe ends up begrudgingly having to interact with Alix, Rose and Juleka (let's say for a group homework). Rose is the angel that sees the good in every person (her clothes even come with a angel wings in the back), so she would be perfect for the role of making Chloe open up, Alix is good at calling people's BS out (she did with Marinette a few times about her crush on Adrien and the class representative episode, not to mention Kim), and Juleka is overall a good listener and secret keeper. If these three befriended Chloe, they could be the perfect trigger for her to become even better than she was in season 2.
      Meanwhile Marinette would be having her own downfall arc, neglecting Chat Noir and driving him away, saying things like "but he'll have more time for himself this way", except this time she realizes she's just projecting onto him what she wants for herself, but it's too late and Chat ends up akumatized before she can mend things up, making her worst nightmare come true. Both plots merge in a season finale where Ladybug and Queen Bee fight against Chat Noir, and this time nobody dies because Chloe is there to give the moral support she gave Adrien, making him lower his guard and give her plenty of time to use Poison on him and break the akumatized item. Then it's the three of them against Hawkmoth!
      I think this would be a good enough narrative for everyone involved.

    • @pumbhax
      @pumbhax 4 місяці тому +4

      @@TwilightWolf032 This is really interesting. Obviously, there are some things I don't agree with, but yours seems more detailed and well planned than anything the writers have done.
      As a part of Marinette's downfall arc, I also think it would make sense for her to be unnecessarily mean to Chloe (like making rude remarks whenever she fails. for example, whenever she gets sad, "oh, you're gonna get akumatized again?"). To the point where her other classmates think it's a bit harsh, and they actually try and support Chloe for once. Marinette would also be losing respect because of this. Then Rose, Juleka, and Alix would explain to Marinette and the rest of the group that they have to give people a second chance, and that being mean back doesn't make them a better person than Chloe. This could be an opportunity for everyone in the class to grow as a person. Which is something the show is lacking.
      Also, for the Chat Noir getting akumatized thing, I just wanted to say, if Monarch ever used half a braincell, he would have akumatized his miraculous. A miraculous is indestructible. It can only be destroyed by a cataclysm, but Chat Noir is the one being akumatized. So basically the only way he can be defeated is if he rejects the akuma, or, he is paralyzed by Queen Bee, Ladybug takes the Miraculous, transforms into Bug Noir, and cataclysms it. So it would make 100% sense to only need Queen Bee in this scenario. But that would mean if he is defeated, it would be a half identity reveal. It may be anti-climactic/fixable by the lucky charm. Probably the latter since Monarch will know Chat Noir's identity because of that. As we saw in Oblivio, they lost the memory of each other's secret identities because it would be harmful. I'm assuming it's going to be the same in this case.
      A little something you could add: After this, Marinette would consider Queen Bee one of the most important miraculous holders, as you said. However, since Queen Bee already revealed her identity to the world, Ladybug decided to make a fake speech where she would tell Chloe that she can no longer trust her with the miraculous of the bee, as it is too dangerous for her because Monarch knows her identity. However, before she did that, she went into the hotel as a civilian and asked the staff the give Chloe the package with the bee miraculous inside along with a letter with instructions (obviously she told the staff Ladybug gave it to her because then they would find out her secret identity). Finally, Chloe has to come up with a fake name and a different character design. I would say something like Lady Apis (Apis meaning "bee" in Latin). So basically Chloe is one of the first permanent holders after Rena Rouge.

Him fighting Monarch and discovering it's his father would add excellent drama. No let's make Marinette trusted Gabriel, the villain, with a lame speech about choices and his wife. Why could the two of them never stop normal crimes? Like carjacking or bank robbery or muggings and such. Or they save people from disasters: fire, earthquakes, floods, etc. Why does it always HAVE to be a superpowered monster. Ladybug is based off of Spiderman, spiderman helps with normal crime too. Batman deals with more normal crime day to day than he does superpowered ones. Most superheroes do a lot of normal crime fighting. A lot of them also go beyond that and just help people out- helping poor people get jobs, giving advice to a struggling person, community service in and out of costume, etc. Is it because it is a kid's show and they didn't want to show scary, realistic things? Other shows managed it. Ben 10, Teen Titans, Last Airbender, even My Little Pony had more hero needing situations for the main cast to deal with. But in this show, Paris is apparently a perfect utopia that needs no saving or heroes unless Hawkmoth has turned someone into a villain. It is so weird.

    One of the things that is fascinating to me about Cat Noir is they eventually revealed he literally has the power to destroy the entire world. So how is it possible that the kid who is trusted with that level of power is sidelined to Mariennette?
    Here's an alternative story for you. Since they introduce time travel at some point, I think it works pretty well.
    Let's say the kwamis have seen the future, and they know that the black cat miraculous is the reason the entire world gets destroyed at some point. So they decide it needs to be neutralized - since it's a kid show supposedly, we'll say it's supposed to be put in a box somewhere and hidden away. But being the mischievous and unconcerned kwami that he is, the black cat doesn't care, runs off, and ends up bonding with Adrien (I like the idea that they choose their hosts themselves). The ladybug miraculous, which is specifically meant to be able to restrain the black cat, is "dispatched" to help, and chooses Marienette because she already has somewhat of a relationshp with Adrian and is an actually decent person. Adrian, though, despite her pleas, doesn't want to get rid of the miraculous because his life as a child model is terrible, and he's got a lot of anxiety, and it helps him cope. At that moment, his father stars akumatizing people, and it's shown that black cat can actually be a hero. The rest of the story is about black cat learning how to use his powers for good and, y'know, not bring the end of the world. Marienette believes Adrien can handle the miraculous, but as miraculouses begin to choose other people, conflict arises as some of those people (maybe Nino, since he would know Adrian well and might think he's not strong enough to handle it because of his home situation and the trauma/emotional abuse he's suffered), think Adrian can't be a hero and try to convince him to give up the miraculous. The black cat begins to take control of Adrian at times, making it seem more and more like a major "cataclysm" is coming, and he ends up fighting Nino and others. It turns out this is because sealing away the miraculous would injure the person it has bonded to, and Adrian would be in a coma like his mother. The black cat miraculous has started to actually care about him and being a hero, so it's trying to protect him, but in the end, Adrian regains control of himself and is willing to give up the miraculous. But then it turns out Cataclysm, along with the ladybug miraculous, is the only key to stopping the akumatizing miraculous forever.
    Suddenly Adrian is essential to the story, Marianette still has an essential role as the one who helps Adrian get through it and control his powers, other friends can present both allies and some added emotional conflict to the story, and the kwamis have a way more interesting back story as creatures that watch over humanity and are trying to prevent its end by any means necessary - and perhaps sometimes they go too far.

Sure, canonically to the show, if a senti-being is designed to be a human, they're still a human no matter how they were conceived. I think it throws salt on the wound that Adrien still doesn't know that he's a senti-monster. It just strips more away from his already lack of agency. It just didn't sit right with me. He considers fans sexist for this, claiming they just don't like seeing a girl as the main lead which is...really dumb. I always reference Kim Possible as a point to debunk his claim because that show actually respected Ron way more (instead of him being a tropy puppet for Marinette or meat shield/trophy boy/puppet to be controlled by villains-of-the-week).

    Seriously got the vibe that this show was laser focused on marrienette and NOT adrian, its the steven universe problem, only it has the gall to put cat noir in the title and barely give him any character, adrian as a whole was wasted potential and everytime the show got close to giving him growth as a character, boom! Hes made to be useless and just a lame sidekick to ladybug, and she gets to get away with EVERYTHING, gaslighting, emotional abuse, lying to him, trusting everyone but him, despite supposedly being a secondary protag, i say that bc again, his growth isnt impirtant to the main writer, thomas, and yeah, it IS a slap to the face when ladybug gets ALL of the praise and admiration, WITH ADRIAN BEING RIGHT THERE AS IT HAPPENS, him getting zero credit or acknowledgement, and being made to be a liability instead of an actual hero, how is that "balanced" thomas!?😡 might as well not bother with arcs for adrian, since its obvious that hes not the focus of the show in any way other than a piece of meat for the REAL focus, ladybug, seriously, i got the vibe earlier on, in just the first episode that to marrinette, adrian was her trophy, her arm candy and thats it, its why any growth for him is short lived, chloe too, the whole show is a hot dumpster fire, never understood the popularity of it, but damn it, what wasted potential for everyone but marrinette, shes the real villain here, getting away with being a toxic hypocritical creepy stalker that lies and manipulates and gaslights adrian, who is made to be an idiot who forgives her every.single.TIME!😡 also, adrian didnt even get to be the one who took down hawkmoth, his own father! Damn it, that was such a HUGE slap to the face of fans and even the casual viewer, WTF

    Those who come with the excuse that this is a kids show really are out of touch with reality. For me growing up in the early 90s and 2000s I got to see many cartoon shows that were very well written, treated all their characters with respect and most importantly were for everyone. Adults/teenagers could enjoy the intriguing plots while the kids would enjoy the shiny lights and action while not making much sense of what happened on screen.
    This show went very hard on the mary sue way, sidelining characters introducing other characters breaking and changing their own freaking rules, practically making it a girls show that hates boys even if they used some as comic relief and nothing else.
    This show had potential, but because it is creatively bankrupt it could do nothing more than stretch it's own over used plots and formulas for way more than they had to. Instead of exploring the miraculous lore, come forth with a plausible reason for the miraculous to be given to 2 teenagers, have the fcking wise master be the mentor both of the main characters need.
    There is a lot more wrong with this show even if you covered most if not all the main points, it deserved better and not this wild fantasy some hack has about his life.

      Never believe people who are out of touch with reality. If you try to justify a cartoon's poor writing and flaws by saying that it is made and intended for kids, you are absolutely pathetic and insufferable, and you do not deserve anybody's respect. Even cartoons made and intended for children can be well-written.

    Marinette in the beginning I didn't hate. However by season 3 I was getting fucking tired of her abusive/ creepy attitude. And then The New York special. I grew to completely hate her! She was so awful to Cat Noir! Season 4 and especially 5 make her an awful person! At least Felix has a valid reason for the way he became. Same with Chloe! Marinette doesn't!

    At this point I want a fan to take initiative and rewrite the show better because I don’t think the actual creators are going to fix their issues and make something good. Though I will admit that personally, I enjoy watching the car crash that is the show itself. I want to see just how far they’ll take it and how bad it’s going to be. I want to know how they plan to end this trainwreck.

    This is why we have so many fan fictions where people make Mari and Adrien an actual team.
    I'll admit it, I was a fan of the show during it's first seascon. Second season was fine. But then the third season happened and I watched Adrien fall into the path of irrelvance. I get it, they want a female protagonist, but that doesn't mean you can throw the cat boy out the window. I always thought of them as a good duo, they balanced each other out well in the beginning and it would've been great to see Adrien start to become part of the whole Master Fu story as well. The Master gave two kids the miraculouses, not one and her cute side kick. And after learning that the show has Mari at the center of the universe is because they wanted a female protagonist who is very involved in the story, I couldn't help but agree with people that Adrien should've been female. His father is Hawk Moth, he's got baggage heavier then a truck, and his mother is missing. Changing him to be the protagonist, and making him a girl because that's our priority folks, would've been such an easy thing to do. And we'd have less scenes of Mari being an outright creep.
    Speaking of the freak that we call our protagonist, I like the season one version of her. She's just a clutz who likes a boy but doesn't know how to say it. She's so teenager that it's hard to fault her on that. I liked her and thought her and Adrien being a couple could happen in the future after they did some dating and growing up. Now, I think they need to be several countries away from one another. Kagami is clearly a better choice for Adrien, they're both in the same social status, their parent is over controlling, and they have a lot of the same hobbies. Meanwhile, Luka works better for Mari. He's free spirited, can go wherever he likes, and has a knack for creativity in music. Hell, she's in a band with his sister. But no, we need the two protagonists to be together and we're going to force it by breaking up the perfectly fine first dates they ever had. I wouldn't mind if they dated Kagami and Luka respectively then grew up to start dating when they're older. Isn't that how relationships work? You go through dates with people to find what you're looking for?
    Wow, a whole paragraph about shipping. Actually send help.
    Storywise, I would say every fan fiction that focuses on kicking Hawk Moth to the curb in season one is my cup of tea. Or the movie that does so much better. How the hell did a movie do more storywise than five seasons of a tv show? That's just... incredible. I've said it in other ranting videos, I'm fully confident that you can cut out over eighty percent of the episodes and get about two seasons of actual good content. Cut out the time travel and cut out the needless shipping. How did you even achieve a love octogram? Jeez.
    In all, the movie did it better. That's my conclusion.

    Ugh, honestly, I stopped watching this show after I saw the episode where Marinette says she has Adrien’s schedule down, that is creepy. And even seeing the movie which proved to me that Zag is the better writer here, so much wasted potential with an anime version being more dark and stuff and the characters looking absolutely adorable, but having spots be difficult to animate? Just make a new suit and boom easier to animate

    Fu met his girlfriend in WW2, when she looked to be around 20 (any older would make her ridiculously old in the present). He however is 180 years old in the present. So when he was with her, she was 20 and he was 120.

    I think their main issue with this show is that they didn't have a bible to reference. Not like the holy bible, but a source document that has all of the important details about characters, environments, etc that the writers can refer back to so that their stories can be far more consistent. I think it would have either helped them construct the "Adrian is an amok" on their own, or prevented certain powers from becoming too powerful. It felt like they were just winging it throughout the series

    The way Adrien is treated resembles how most shows treat their female characters (e.g.: shounens), that is: not including them in major plot points, relegating them to love interests for a bland uninteresting MC, objectifying them for the protagonist's interest, making them less powerful, and neglecting their character development even when they have great potential. It's like sexism... but the other way around this time. Sucks either way, Adrien deserves better :/
