Regarding digital negatives -- you need to collaborate with someone who does alternate processes and work with them to test how well the ET 8550 works for digital negatives. I've already seen a query in an alternate photo process forum regarding how well the ET 8550 works for digital negatives, so there is some interest.
Thanks! I print negatives to make solar dye prints, and Cyanotypes. Im going to go buy this printer. If it can do transparencies well, I need it. Haha
This is very helpful. I am a photo student, and we sometimes print onto transparencies in order to create negatives (I giggled when you talked about it, but we are learning all this in order to understand how prints were/are made with film). My current (very old) Epson really has a huge issue "seeing" the transparency film without me taping off the bottom edge. After seeing your video, I could've probably just used a much less expensive transparency film with a white edge.
Hola Jose, I have the same printer and trying to print transparent paper, but it prints only a stripe in the middle. I need it for wedding invitations as my job and I recently bought this printer and I am a bit devastated that it can't print transparent paper. Do you have experience with this paper? My printer ET8550, does not recognize the film paper and gives me an error that there is no paper, even though I configure the paper tray. My film paper is completely transparent. can you help me?
Jose, have you noticed that 50 sheets of any 13x19 paper from canon has increased in price? I believe before you can get it at $30 on sale from a regular price of $60, now on sale is $60 and regular price is about $99. Before printing photos was more attractive since you can get the printer almost free with their rebates and the price of paper was cheaper. Now you have to buy the printer at basically full price and the cost of paper has doubled. I know the pandemic made everything worst but this is crazy. Any thoughts?
I have have ET8550 which is converted to echo solvent ink . Can i make this with this kind of ink?

It’s not dark enough for screen printing screens
We used to make hundreds of 12” x 12” photographic quality overhead transparencies for Bell using Kodak XL7700 colour thermal printers. They used to DOUBLE the image density for normal appearance with back lighting. If you have to view a transparency laid on paper the light is going through it trice so it is too washed out for light-box or projection viewing. Don’t inkjet dye or pigment printers have a true ‘transparency’ print mode with double the ink density?
