    this is a true moonflower, thank you...I see so many people online calling the jimson weed a moonflower...the flower is similar but its hallucinogenic....I wish we could educate the people so they will know...thank you for being correct. The moonflower is a vine and the jimson weed is a bush.

    I've just bought some Moonflower seeds from eBay, they're soaking at the moment. I got some great ideas from your video, including the heat mat, I haven't bought one of those yet. Thank you 🙂

    Will they grow in zone 8? We have clay soil.
    Are they considered as a perennial? If potted, should I bring them in doors when the weather becomes cold / Thank you. And love your channel.

      I recently moved to 8b and unfortunately they did not come back. But they may be annuals in zone 8. You can protect them with extra mulch for the colder nights and then pull it away as soon as the weather warms again. Please let me know if they come back.

    Also have you ever tried growing them indoors?

    • @trowelandtable
      @trowelandtable  6 місяців тому

      I grew some indoors for about the first 8 weeks. They are toxic to indoor pets and do need a lot of sunshine. They grew pretty fast after the first 6 weeks or so. They need to be trellised or placed next to a fence so they can climb on a support and I did not want them taking over my kitchen.

    When do you place them in the soil? Would it be after they crack?

    • @trowelandtable
      @trowelandtable  4 роки тому +5

      Yes, as soon as I see the seed has cracked I will place it in a little hollow and sprinkle a light covering of soil over it. Best of luck!

    How long do you soak them?

    • @trowelandtable
      @trowelandtable  6 місяців тому

      I have soaked them from 8-12 hours, it seems to depend on the air temperature too as to how quickly they soften. When I soak them I leave part of the seed above the water line.

    Very difficult to grow in Pacific Northwest. I’m wondering why…

    • @trowelandtable
      @trowelandtable  6 місяців тому

      I have found that they like a lot of sunshine and do not like their “feet wet”. Perhaps try planting them in a raised spot , adding sand to the compost or add 1/3 sand to your potting mix to allow for the soil to dry out quicker with better drainage. They will need extra food, compost tea or manure topcoat if it rains a lot.

    • @trowelandtable
      @trowelandtable  8 місяців тому

      I soak them for a few hours and then place in soil in a pot with good drainage and keep very lightly moistened. Make sure there is good airflow and sunlight. I plant them outdoors as soon as it is warm enough at night.

    • @trowelandtable

      Hi Wassauf, Thanks for getting in touch. Jimson Weed is Datura or the devil’s trumpet. It can be a an invasive weed in many parts of the world. It has more of a trumpet shaped flower.

      This is new to me as I thought moonflower is datura. Seems there are two kinds of plants which are both called moonflower. Thank you for pointing me to the other one!
      From wikipedia…
      “Ipomoea alba, sometimes called the tropical white morning-glory or moonflower or moon vine, is a species of night-blooming morning glory, native to tropical and subtropical regions of North and South America, from Argentina to northern Mexico, Arizona, Florida and the West Indies.”
      “Datura is a genus of nine species of highly poisonous, vespertine-flowering plants belonging to the nightshade family (Solanaceae). They are commonly known as thornapples or jimsonweeds, but are also known as devil's trumpets (not to be confused with angel's trumpets, which are placed in the closely related genus Brugmansia). Other English common names include moonflower, devil's weed, and hell's bells.

      A wonderful decision, it adds a level of dependability to seed growing that has made the early start so much easier and way more fun. My seeds thrive with the even and steady added heat.
