    Sodium hypochlorite is sodium hypochlorite. In the fall when all the pool chemicals go on clearance, I buy the gallons of pool chlorine for using in laundry. It's just a higher concentration, so you use less in the wash than you would normally put in.

    Thank you for your videos. I follow your advice and my pool that is used almost daily by multiple people is always clear. I brush it several times a week, shock every Sunday evening. Check levels 2x a week, keep it covered when not in use. Bought a skimmer and hand skim daily. I recently put tennis balls in to soak up the oils. Works amazingly well.

      Unfortunately, the higher the % chloride, the more unstable and short-lived the product. 6% Clorox will maintain its potency for a good six months. 10% or higher usually starts losing potency within a month. So as long as you use it promptly, it is a better buy, but Clorox keeps for much longer.

    One thing to mention - the amount of bleach to add would depend on the CYA level in your pool (stabilizer). “Stabilizer” or CYA (Cyanuric Acid) acts as “sun screen” for your chlorine (sodium hypochlorite / bleach). You need a proper pool test kit to test CYA, but if the level is high, you’re going to need more than 1 gallon per 10,000 gallons of water to reach the desired chlorine ppm level to kill any algae.

    • @ed0985587
      @ed0985587 Рік тому +1

      @@dev2times No, it would be more like - you would technically need less bleach, but ‘more often’ because the sun would cook the sodium hypochlorite (bleach / chlorine) out of the pool faster. You only need more chlorine if your CYA level is so high that it takes more to bring the free chlorine PPM up to a level where it becomes effective. I’m short, just keep your CYA level between 30 and 50 ppm, you’ll be good.

    Any idea if I could use iodine in a pool? Instead of chlorine.
    Iodineism absorbs into the thyroid gland a d is really healthy for people, it's one of the main reasons why fish are "healthy" due to iodine from the ocean and omega fats.
    I love swimming, pools and even the smell of chlorine, I use iodine on a daily level though and have been using it for a mini animal pool for a few weeks and it's been going good for far.

  • @Jodyrides
    @Jodyrides 2 роки тому

    thanks a lot. I was in the store the other day here in May 2022. 1 pound bags of shock that were $1.99, or now six dollars.
    when I was first considering getting a an above ground pool about 20 years ago. I ran into a guy that buys bleach in 5 gallon plastic models directly from the company that makes sense. He said that’s all he’s ever used to chlorinate his pool. He said “ chlorine is chlorine”
    I would like to hear an explanation about raising or lowering alkalinity or pH. Those test strips are youse tell me some things are low and some things are high. I had an aluminum ladder for the first five years of my pool. Something I was putting in the pool or something I wasn’t putting in the pool cause that aluminum to be corroded, and I had to replace the ladder. I now have a stainless steel ladder..
    I have a Hayward DE filter. I would like to know how many hours a day I need to run that, and if there is a better time to run it like mornings, afternoon when the sun is strongest, or after sunset. I generally run the pump for about eight hours a day, and I always always have the pump on if anyone is in the pool..
    The biggest problem I have is algae. My pool doesn’t get direct sunlight until about 11 AM, and the sun goes off of my pool probably around 2 PM. Because of the trees.. I can’t believe how much stuff from those trees falls in the pool every day. I actually have to close the pool here in Western Pennsylvania around the third week of August every year. If I let it go past Labor Day, I just can’t keep up with the leaves that are in the pool hourly, they turn the pool green if I don’t get those leaves out of there daily..
    Great video with straight talk. Thanks

    Thank for the video. I am about to buy new products for my spa. We aren't hurting things by using baking soda or borax for PH? I have just drained and cleaned the tub to change from chlorine to bromine and the frog setup. I am going to be using the frog mineral with a floating bromine setup.

      Nope, not hurting anything at all if you're using the correct amounts and keeping your readings in the correct ranges.

      With all due respect, bromine is an inferior disinfectant to chlorine, and more expensive. And speaking of expensive: Frog is a bit of a scam (and this is from a former user). Minerals are bad for your pool in general, and their disinfectant products jack up your CYA to the point of neutralizing the disinfectant. Plus they produce different lines of refills that are purposely manufactured to not fit between a myriad of models, each sold exclusively to individual pool-store chains. It’s all very slimy.

    Is there a weekly thing I can do to maintain pool? Like a gallon of chlorine and a cup of baking soda?

    I have an above ground pool, normal pH but the total alkalinity is 240. 12×24 rectangular pool. I'm not sure how much pH down to put in as it will affect the pH level. I can't find a chart for it. Please help!

    Question for anyone. I have a cartridge filter with my pool pump so I have to take the filter out and spray it clean. Putting it back is a little difficult at time. There’s a rubber ring that surrounds the entire tank. Someone mentioned using Vaseline on the rubber rings. Just wanted to know if anyone has done that and would a tiny bit be ok? Anything to help it slide into place

    Ok I’m not an owner of an in ground pool but i am a owner of a stock tank that I’m trying to make into a fabulous 10 ft round / 2 feet high wading pool.
    I do want to make a filter system~I’m considering the standard built in filter and exhaust by cutting in the sides but also see a kiddy pool system that is a over the edge filter system ive seen done (on You Tube) with a blow up pool.
    What i want to know is WHAT do you recommend for should i worry about painting / treating the inside (which I’ve seen good and bad ideas).
