To my knowledge, the OD is not given for hit songs but for uplifting and inspiring the nation with positive works and if one were to look at the life and lifestyle of the individual and his body of work - Wayne Marshall is deserving. How many other dancehall artists have been able to have hits in dancehall and be relevant and able to shift to an upstanding citizen of our nation with no bad publicity throughout his career. Please do remember that the OD is to uplift the people of our nation and give them something to aspire to and I for one am proud of the music he's put out and the lifestyle and role model he has become and by doin it the right way. 🎉🎉🎉❤

When I saw and heard of Wayne getting an award, I was thinking WTH has this man done to benefit Jamaica and be deserving of a Medal like my father. Yes. There are so, so many others more deserving than this young man. If you say something, Jamaican people sey yu badmind and a hate. But what has Wayne done over countless other Jamaicans? Potential (almost sure) to continue to do better …radio soon hire him if dem nuh do it yet 9. Potential actor ( see him on stage weekly) … him good I’ve been told 10. As an artiste he’s always smiling, always cheerful, never fails to represent the Jamaican man… (unu talk the truth) .. I call him Charles Hyatt x Dennis Brown) .. he shouldn’t disappoint for the future and that’s what they see. As a people we must recognize encourage and reward potential as a means of fostering a better society. Yes he’s an upper class dude but he can relate to earth level of society. Base on the reasoning let’s give Kartel a OD base on his body of work. It’s more than the body of work it’s also about the content of the character. Si the reasoning still but not everything should be just about the body of work only. Marshall is also a great example of yute who is a great example of a family man and entertainer.
There are many family men in Jamaica, should they all get ODs ? You have to have a great body of work, that does not include lots of explicit content and violence, plus stay out of jail in order to get it. Many dancehall artistes would not qualify.

Tracy I do understand what you are saying and I genuinely believe there is credibility to your position. A matter of fact, you pointed out that your concern is definitely not against Marshal himself and rightly so. But I think in principle and for the same reasons you cited I must divert from your position of “Marshall giving the award to who and maybe many other believe is “more worthy””. I too believe there are so many who are “more worthy”. I stressed the point “more worthy” which means that the person(s) who are nominated and given is indeed in most cases “worthy”. It is on that point I disagree with Marshall giving the award to another. He IS WORTHY OF THE AWARD! So on that basis he SHOULD NOT give it to anyone else even in a symbolic way. And I haven’t touched on what is considered, worthiness; the criteria one consider vs what another believes is fitting to first placed in the category or “being worthy” before we decide on who is or isn’t “more worthy”. What we should do is as you are doing; advocate for a change in the process but the process does not identify those that are “more worthy” before those who are still considered, worthy. I support my position as on the question, why those who are seen as “more worthy” weren’t nominated? I asked that question to point out the fact that even us as fans, citizens, and other artiest and actors in the industry DID NOT NOMINATE those “more worthy individuals”. These categories of people should first take blame for failing to identify and nominate those who are more worthy. The body that had the responsibility to finally decide was not given the opportunity to do so. What most people don't realize is that while you have to be nominated by someone there is also a list of requirements that the candidates have to meet. One a those requirements is that the person has to have never been convicted of any crime and has impeccable moral character. Now with that being said, how many other artists do you think would still qualify.
The Grammies have a committee that you pay a yearly membership for and they are the ones who get to vote that’s why Marleys normally always a win or the American reggae bands because they’re more known to the committee. If I was to make an argument for Wayne Marshall it would be his positive influence as a husband and family man on young ppl that is followers of dancehall and the overall jamaica society....he is the only dancehall artist I can think of that highlight the uncommon lifestyle of marriage/faithfulness and family man....we see more artists starting to follow in his foot step and that overall is a positive thing for the society overall and should be recognized within a dancehall culture that glorify cheating/ multiple baby mothers, and that only produce broken homes, teenage pregnancy and kids that grow up with the void of a missing parent and so on and so on.
If that's the case, then serious consideration should have been given to awarding Agent Sasco and Shabba Ranks for the same reasons. Follow their stories.

The award is not given by the body of work as an artiste ,but how society view the individual. Lifestyle and positive contribution to their surroundings is what factors in the decision making. Wayne is exemplary to these factors as a ambassador and family man.

Bottom line,if you're not nominated you can't be considered. Someone has to nominate you,so if you have someone in mind who you think is worthy then submit your recommendation for consideration.

This round of OD awards can be classified as a political thrift shop giveaway to gain political mileage that is fastly slipping away in the upper echelon of society for them to influence the people who work for them. Apart from Marcia Griffiths and a few well deserving recipients, it all boils down to a giveaway of honors to a privileged social group patting themselves on the back with very little substance or merit behind the awards.
I believe any relate to Jamaican politic is patty shop and the most important thing base on their work contributed to society and their impact and comparison to Bounty Kill I would agree Wayne Marshall impact is relatively small. Killa and Beenie are entertainers only. Marshall (Mitchell) nomination is not only about his music but also about his contribution to lifestyle. He has a TV show, YT channel and a wide viewership. Also, he’s largely not controversial nor have being a negative influence to our culture like some of the other names that you have mentioned. Same noise when Big Mountain got the reggae award and not a Jamaican. We sometimes behave too entitled when we don’t buy or contribute to anything.

You really don't understand the concept of the award. Bounty killer and Beeniman are great artists and sold many records. However, Wayne Marshall has a huge body of work not only in music but also on his UA-cam channel and his contribution to the Jamaican culture. The artists you mention are huge in the music industry, but other than that, what are they doing to encourage the youths in Jamaican and to make the culture better? Wayne has shown the Jamaican family in a beautiful way and has shown what it is to be a father, husband, son, and brother in a positive way. He is teaching young men how to be responsible adults in a culture where young men are not seen in that light. I'm very proud of Wayne Marshall for all he is doing to highlight the beauty of Jamaican men and for helping to remove the stereotypes associated with Jamaican men. That alone makes him deserving of the award even though over the years, his career and contributions to Jamaican music are exceptional and should not be made light of. Awards are not always based on the number of records you make or sell. It is also what you do with stardom or notority that comes with it and how you use it to improve your community and country. Now go back and examine the body of work of the men you mention that are more deserving and look at Wayne Marshall contributions to music, his community, the Jamaican culture, and the promotion and positivity of the Jamaican way of life to the outside world. You will see that your view is very limited and does not capture the true essence of the award.
Babsy Grange and her team continues to cook curry favor. The award scheme needs musicologists to review and award those who know what to award others for. Wayne Marshall doesn't have a catalogue, so why was he even considered for an award, and mores so an OD? Why should you put the onus on Wayne Marshall to give back his award? If it is not merit based as you allege then he shouldn’t be held responsible for those who were or weren’t nominated. If artistes like Beenie Man and Bounty Killer want to be considered for Order of Distinction (Commander and Officer) then their management team should invest in having them nominated. Tracy I do understand what you are saying and I genuinely believe there is credibility to your position. A matter of fact, you pointed out that your concern is definitely not against Marshal himself and rightly so. But I think in principle and for the same reasons you cited I must divert from your position of “Marshall giving the award to who and maybe many other believe is “more worthy””. I too believe there are so many who are “more worthy”. I stressed the point “more worthy” which means that the person(s) who are nominated and given is indeed in most cases “worthy”.
It is on that point I disagree with Marshall giving the award to another. He IS WORTHY OF THE AWARD! So on that basis he SHOULD NOT give it to anyone else even in a symbolic way. And I haven’t touched on what is considered, worthiness; the criteria one consider vs what another believes is fitting to first placed in the category or “being worthy” before we decide on who is or isn’t “more worthy”.
What we should do is as you are doing; advocate for a change in the process but the process does not identify those that are “more worthy” before those who are still considered, worthy. I support my position as on the question, why those who are seen as “more worthy” weren’t nominated? I asked that question to point out the fact that even us as fans, citizens, and other artiest and actors in the industry DID NOT NOMINATE those “more worthy individuals”. These categories of people should first take blame for failing to identify and nominate those who are more worthy. The body that had the responsibility to finally decide was not given the opportunity to do so. So yes, the process is flawed but THE ACTORS IN THE INDUSTRY and we lovers of the music was the fist line of failure by not nominating.
Therefore Marshal is deserving and SHOULD NOT give is award to anyone else. So let’s celebrate a “worthy” recipient while we be more involved by start nominating those we believe is more worthy. This includes you too Tracy. You can nominate any artiest you believe is worthy. We all have the responsibility.

What most people don't realize is that while you have to be nominated by someone there is also a list of requirements that the candidates have to meet. One a those requirements is that the person has to have never been convicted of any crime and has impeccable moral character. If I was to make an argument for Wayne Marshall it would be his positive influence as a husband and family man on young ppl that is followers of dancehall and the overall jamaica society....he is the only dancehall artist I can think of that highlight the uncommon lifestyle of marriage/faithfulness and family man....we see more artists starting to follow in his foot step and that overall is a positive thing for the society overall and should be recognized within a dancehall culture that glorify cheating/ multiple baby mothers, and that only produce broken homes, teenage pregnancy and kids that grow up with the void of a missing parent and so on and so on.

Killa and Beenie are entertainers only. Marshall (Mitchell) nomination is not only about his music but also about his contribution to lifestyle. He has a TV show, YT channel and a wide viewership. Also, he’s largely not controversial nor have being a negative influence to our culture like some of the other names that you have mentioned. Same noise when Big Mountain got the reggae award and not a Jamaican. We sometimes behave too entitled when we don’t buy or contribute to anything.

You really don't understand the concept of the award. Bounty killer and Beeniman are great artists and sold many records. However, Wayne Marshall has a huge body of work not only in music but also on his UA-cam channel and his contribution to the Jamaican culture. The artists you mention are huge in the music industry, but other than that, what are they doing to encourage the youths in Jamaican and to make the culture better? Wayne has shown the Jamaican family in a beautiful way and has shown what it is to be a father, husband, son, and brother in a positive way. He is teaching young men how to be responsible adults in a culture where young men are not seen in that light. I'm very proud of Wayne Marshall for all he is doing to highlight the beauty of Jamaican men and for helping to remove the stereotypes associated with Jamaican men. That alone makes him deserving of the award even though over the years, his career and contributions to Jamaican music are exceptional and should not be made light of. Awards are not always based on the number of records you make or sell. It is also what you do with stardom or notority that comes with it and how you use it to improve your community and country. Now go back and examine the body of work of the men you mention that are more deserving and look at Wayne Marshall contributions to music, his community, the Jamaican culture, and the promotion and positivity of the Jamaican way of life to the outside world. You will see that your view is very limited and does not capture the true essence of the award.
Babsy Grange and her team continues to cook curry favor. The award scheme needs musicologists to review and award those who know what to award others for. Wayne Marshall doesn't have a catalogue, so why was he even considered for an award, and mores so an OD? He should return it because people Horace Andy, Linval Thomas, Leroy Sibbles, Leroy Smart. and many others are there waiting for their turn. Scrap the award since its not done in a credible way that looks at the body of work the artists have put in.

Why should you put the onus on Wayne Marshall to give back his award? If it is not merit based as you allege then he shouldn’t be held responsible for those who were or weren’t nominated. If artistes like Beenie Man and Bounty Killer want to be considered for Order of Distinction (Commander and Officer) then their management team should invest in having them nominated.
