    WOW! As an avid skydive instructor and former BASE jumper, I thought reading the title, that this was the most irresponsible thing I had ever read. However, having an open mind and watching it, I have to say that this is the best representation of how to go about learning BASE in the safest way! In the beginning, there is a little miss-information. This is normal for someone who doesn't know skydiving. Then to fallow your reactions and emotions, it brought back great memories of my learning experience. "I have never been scared like that" is exactly the words I would use to describe my first BASE jump. This Documentary is a GREAT representation of going from inexperience to an educated jumper! I feel the one missing part is to inform people just how much time and money were spent on the learning process, because both were EXTENSIVE!!! Those of you making uneducated comments should really go educate yourself because you just make yourself look foolish. As for wing-suit and proximity flying, he was using a beginner suit but was not educated enough in those to have done them. I think this was a very responsible approach to this topic. Joby, welcome to a new world, I hope you have been enjoying it. Don't forget the beer.

      What does the skill of skydiving bring to base jumping, or wingsuit flying? I have never done any of these activities. I know they all use parachutes. I have done one tandem paraglider flight. That was ace!

      Harry Bean, think of BASE as racing at Indy, or bull riding. Sure you can jump right in and do it but your chances greatly improved if you first know how to drive a car, or ride a horse. That is what skydiving is to BASE jumping

    That makes me feel bad when the guy says when he was young his parents were told by his teacher that he was a dreamer and that was a bad thing. I have always taught my child, there is noting you cannot do. I remember being told what i was not allowed to do, but never, what I could do.
    We always need to let our children know that they can do whatever they put there mind to and want to do. The support from a parent or parents, are more beneficial than any other thing a child could ever have.
    Awesome video of this guy recording his journey from a normal person, to an extreme athlete you read about or see pictures of.

    Yes, it is about $ 2500 to get to the A licence. Then you can rent the gear for around $65-80 / day ( like at Perris Valley Skydive). Jumps are around $ 22 / jump. So a day of skdiving, like 6 jumps, would cost around $ 215. Add gas and food plus around $ 50 if you want a packer to pack for you. Under $ 300 per day. Much less for wind tunnel training and it's very worth it.

Took 5 years, including more skydiving and BASE in the last year; I lost a friend that was just a state away. The day I found out was shocking and I wasn’t feeling real bad. The next day I was a crying baby for HOURS from the moment I woke up. It sucked! Getting choked up just thinking about it. I’m a skydiving instructor that looks for BASE jumps when I’m free. Joby is the Mickey Mouse pin up boy for a Disney version of BASE. He did not become a base jumper in 60 days, I only see him jumping from Span and Earth, where’s the building and Antenna? He didn’t get a base number?
    From the get go this film is misleading, entertaining and honey coating none the less. But it’s basically strictly dancing for BASE jumpers. The exits were chosen with safety in mind, top jumpers to guide and risk assess and no bandit jumping( understandable but its part of BASE). Even the mushroom is hardly one of most dangerous jumps, it has a long fall time.
    Its ridiculous to says you can be a BASE jumper in 60 days that’s how people get killed when they believe such things.
    Just browse through the BASE fatalities list. Anybody wants to see the truth of BASE instead of the Disney version look for “the bridge to nowhere” by Антон Калюжный its shocking but it’s truthful. I suggest anyone inspired to take up BASE after Joby’s version should watch Bridge to nowhere and then decide. Or should I say SE jumping since that’s or Joby did. You also don't need to look like a 70's porn star.
    Everyone should live or die the way they want, but let’s at least have truth out there instead of some Sesame Street version. This version is one side of the coin but lets also have the other.

    • @error.418
      @error.418 9 років тому

      I think the problem is it's not a coin, with one side and another. It's complex and personal, and no one should see one person's experience as being the definition of the experience.

      @error.418 8 років тому

      You don't have to get a BASE number to be a BASE jumper. In fact, many BASE jumpers don't agree with the BASE number system. It creates something organized, which BASE is not supposed to be, in there eyes.

    • @mickdel
      @mickdel 8 років тому

      I wonder what the percentage of BASE jumpers registered with a Base # is?

    • @error.418
      @error.418 8 років тому

      mickdel We'll never know. It's a rogue sport, so there are many people who BASE jump and keep that a secret. I have met many BASE jumpers who have hit all four object types in the acronym, but vehemently refuse to ever get a BASE number and speak out against it. I've met quite a few of those people. But that isn't to say there aren't many BASE jumpers who enjoy the BASE number system, and many newer BASE jumpers make it a goal to get their number as soon as possible. There have been a handful who have hit all four on their first day of BASE, which is reckless and stupid, but, well... rogue sport.

    Wish i had £1500 to do my license:( doing a tandem for my 16th birthday next mobth though, cant wait:))
    One of my mates does skydiving/wingsuiting/BASE and he done a jump off a pylon yesterday haha id rather stick to cliffs and big buildings

      I'm in a similar position to you. I'm 16, and was desperate to do skydiving for my 16th, but my parents wouldn't sign the consent form, as they say it's too dangerous. I've research into it and have said it's statistically quite safe, and although things can and do go wrong, chances are quite minimal. I also watch way too many skydiving/BASE/wingsuit videos, and it just makes me want to become qualified! How did you tandem go ? :)

      Was awesome, most fun i have ever had the instructor even let me steer the chute haha

      I too want to get into skydiving so that one day I can sport a wingsuit. Jeb Corliss and Jokke Sommer have really inspired me here on UA-cam.

      i don't see why you'd rather stick to buildings and cliffs, considering a '180' is way more problematic when you jump off of those.
      the 'safest' thing you can jump is a bridge or something similar.
      either way, your comment is six months old now. have you saved up some money yet? i'm curious because i was in the same position as you when i was 15/16 and then finally had the money (2400€) at the age of 19, which was last year.
      most money i've spent so far. best investment though.

      Nah, i got a job and if i saved i could have done it, but unfortunatly i lost my job and am going through some hard times atm so skydiving is last on my list

    I thinkll I'll jump off my bridge with my home made parachute .When I hit the water at a hundred miles an hour and turned into moosh Who cares the World's first base jumper with his umbrella Parachute ! The next person that trys it may need more reinforcement but you'll get her if its doesn't work you'll still be a Base Jumper WE Gotta Think Positive here !

    Number one rule of skydiving and base jumping: make sure your balls are safely out of the way of your harness leg straps before jumping.

    I think he already knew how to jump, this is the guy that was with Jeb Corliss when he crashed on table mountain.

    • @sanataj

      Really ? You have the knowledge to say that the guy is only pretending to be a beginner?

      Harry Bean No, but it is a little odd that he does his first base jump and within a few years he's best friends with Jeb Corliss. I do know that he was in the mountain climbing scene before he started jumping so maybe he already knew a lot of people in the jumping scene as well. His connections and previous experience made him a natural choice for this documentary, That sounds logical at least.
